Yo. Looking forward to this a bunch.

Hmm, I'm slowly realizing that I wish we'd gone with 4e. Building a fighter in 3.5 is kinda lame.
Sure we can't have some other resources? Maybe "Complete Only" or something? Also for some reason I really want some adamantine full plate. Except that costs like three times our starting gold. Ah well.

I thought you were going with a barbarian zachol.
I've got healer/buffer covered for the xcrawl team. |

I'm considering barbarian/fighter (spiked chain?) or rogue. Although having played a rogue in pathfinder, the 3.5 rogue seems so lame (read: underpowered).

So did I, but I keep shifting back to fighter.
Assuming we are going to stick with SRD only, I'm heading for the dodge - mobility - spring attack - expertise - whirlwind attack chain. Fighter + human gives me six feats, which I think I'll spend on weapon focus, power attack, dodge, expertise, mobility, spring attack. Weapon specialization and whirlwind attack at level 6. All of this feels like it's going to be more effective than the barbarian set. I wish there was some kind of strength plus charisma class that wasn't paladin. I keep imagining her as someone who's really good at playing the crowd, but its hard to work charisma in to this build.

Hrhm...
... I'm thinking half-giant psychic warrior / barbarian now. Reach and trip being his specialty. It's both impressive (crowd) and effective (oh yes). |

So Val is mainly going to be the tank. Huzzah!
Full plate, shield, warhammer. AC something like 23. Nifty. Edit: Nope not enough for a magic shield. AC 22. Edit 2: And Val's up. Please expose my various failures, I sort of rushed her. Edit 3: Already found a mistake, 4th level ability. Pumped into Str.

Okay, I say SRD and XCrawl only, but I'm reasonable. As long as you're not stringing broken shit together or using a book that I don't have some access to, present an idea and I'll probably allow it. I just want to make sure that edition power creep doesn't make the dungeon obsolete since XCrawl comes from the very tail end of 3.0

Yay! An excuse to page through all my books that I never use anymore.
I'm really just thinking a weapon style feat or something. I suck ass at "optimization" anyway.

I really don't want some of the later complete books, book of 9 swords, or anything that's like pre-4E. Or Incarnum. That one's flat out.

Well, the half-giant psychic warrior is SRD only. Spiked chain, combat reflexes (Dex is a problem though) and tripping at range (no improved trip I guess), probably some power attack - that's powerful enough and SRD only as well - no need to get into splat books (sure, Bo9S would be more powerful, heh). Maybe I won't use a spiked chain though. Hrhm... more thoughts when I return from my vacation.

Tricks is up - figured someone would have to bite the bullet and be an elf. Forgot to note his racials, I just realized, but other than that he's up.

Wait why aren't we doing Pathfinder.

Pathfinder is weaksauce. Also, way higher power than core 3.x.

You take that back.
Personally I find it hilarious that Val can do a spring attack while in full plate. Thinking I might want to locate some more tank-like feats.

Adamant seems to be ready.
Also: characters wearing full plate can't spring attack, it's in the feat description.

Doing the math and updating to take this from 3.0/3.5 to Pathfinder would probably take longer than just updating it to 4E. Frankly, I don't want to invest any time in conversion.

Also I was joking about Pathfinder. If you were going to convert I would have rather had gone with 4e than Pathfinder anyway. Wait is that grammatically correct?

It's still possible to spring attack in full plate, you just need to take levels in that Elf only prestige class in Races of the Wild for dex based paladins.
Champion of Corellon Larethian I think it was called, I don't remember for sure. |

Huh.
I think I'll just go with "tank." Will allow me to bump down Int and Dex too. The only reason I was doing any of that was for whirlwind attack which is kind of silly.

I'm glad you guys are quick on the draw and policing yourself. I do want to reiterate that my opening post won't be until I'm done for the semester.
That said, if any of you have downloaded the rule book and want to RP your characters outside of the arena, feel free. Don't look for my input as far as NPCs go. As far as I'm concerned, you can RP any NPCs and interactions so long as they don't give you free items and whatnot. Indeed, it might be a good idea for you to establish how your team came together, who the leader is, and what the party dynamic is before we get into the game. Also an actual Team Name. The assumption is that you've run through Division 4 (levels 1-3) together. Division 4 uses boffer armor and weapons, like LARPs, and is completely non-lethal. Division 3 (4-6) is the first level of lethal combat. One thing to know, there are NoGo exit doors where you can leave the game rather than die. If opponents surrender, you can't kill them. If you surrender, the opponents can't kill you. Although, like real gladiators, there is some room for fudging depending on how the nobility in attendance feel. |

Heh, my character went really heavy on the AC, and is completely focused on support and healing (mostly healing). Wound up with a 21 AC, which isn't too bad.
Party Leader should be either the smartest character, or the most charismatic, at least from an RP perspective. That means Adamant is out. As for name, I vote for: Team America BTW: I'm a little rusty on making characters, so if someone wants to take a look at Adamant and see if I screwed anything up, that'd be great. WORLD POLICE.
Oh god that movie. So many bad memories. Make them go away. *vomits everywhere* Val isn't really leader quality stuff. Too hotblooded. She's more the lancer that argues with the leader all the time.
