How about a write-up of the Turandarok Academy as well. I have no idea what this place is or why my backpack is there. I'm also having writers-block when it comes to a background. Any thoughts guys?

All I have so far is... peddler's daughter. Pretty lame I know...

I've placed your backpack in a mystery location, to spite you for your mystery background!

Quick summary: Turandarok Academy is a combination school/orphanage run by a wizard named Ilsoari Gandethus. I figured you might be staying there... for metagame reasons that have nothing to do with your character. I needed a way to introduce the wizard.

But there are certainly ways we could work this. One idea that is that Ilsoari could be your mother's father. Your father came into town one day and they had you: maybe the father stuck around, and maybe he didn't. Having a mystery father could be raise interesting questions about the your sorcery.

You could have been raised at the academy (despite not being an orphan, lucky you) and learned a lot about magic from your grandfather--though not as an apprentice. Maybe he never bothered teaching you because he realizes that you've got magic in your very blood. Maybe you never bothered learning because you could secretly do it by yourself. Maybe a little bit of both.

Hmm, what about that mother? Compared to Cedriana's father and grandfather, she seems like an uninteresting character--and uninteresting characters must be terminated. Maybe she died in an accident when you were moderately young (ten or eleven... how old is Cedriana now?), leaving you just with the grandfather. Maybe it made you slightly rebellious and amoral (chaotic neutral). Or, maybe you were always that way, and it simply didn't help.

Also, we could try looking back from the introduction. I was thinking you might be introduced as a dancer at the festival (you've got the ranks and the outfit), using hypnotism to earn a strangely high wage doing so.

Getting ideas?

Thanks for the cattle prod LeadPal! I like the ideas.

I think I may just skip the nap I usually take between a split shift and write up a rough draft of my background, using some of the ideas you put out there most likely.

I had it in mind to be included as one of the dancer/entertainers for the festival. This would be a good way to introduce me would it not?

Having a grandfather in this town, as well as it being my hometown, would be big motivators for me to stick around and not just flee when the trouble begins. Chaotic Neutral is not set in stone because frankly I find it hard to run a character that cares nothing here nor there about morals. I always use that as a basis for how they respond to things and it's easier for me to have a hard and defined 'good' or 'evil' alignment. Honestly, I don't even remember putting Chaotic Neutral there on my character sheet in the first place. I'll probably switch that to Chaotic Good after writing up my background... or, maybe not.

Getting to that

/end stalling

Okay, I got sidetracked. I put up a description of the Djinni Bloodline, and as you'll see... made some changes. Let me know if you don't agree with them. I saw Air Walk as super cheesy and weak as hell. Look at a Djinni though, the y can fly great! I put Empathy of the Winds as a bonus for 1st level because the strength of the feat is really weak and it makes more sense to know a language intuitively from birth rather than learning it instantly all of a sudden. I'll put up all the new feats later this evening. Empathy of the Wilds is a bonus ability granted to Raptoran Clerics in the Races of the Wild.

In addition to the new feats I'll put up later, I'll get the appearance, personality, and background posted.

You've gotten enough freebies already--empathy of the wilds or eschew materials, not both.

While I agree that Air Walk is probably not so useful for you (but not altogether--you get to use your land speed for 10 min/lvl!), I'm not sure freedom of movement is a good trade for gaseous form. What if you got Overland Flight at 4th level instead? That's pretty good.

Aww, mostly pre-written feats? Well, I don't have Races of the Wild, so you'll have to send me details on everything, so I suppose it works out--they're new feats as far as I'm concerned. Maybe I'll create a couple of legitimate new feats as well.

I was wondering how to fit overland flight in there, but are you sure you'd want to reduce it to a 4th level spell? I guess its not too overpowered as a 4th level spell...

I assembled that list for some inspiration. If you'd like to create some new feats, by all means...

Arg! Stupid forum ate my Seraph post.

Too busy on Valentine's Day, and I haven't yet finished Alde's opening... sooo, Friday. Good news, Xaden! Update Friday! Then I spend the weekend scrambling to ready everything else, and we're fine.

Damn where are you from? Australia I'm guessing. It's 3:05 Pm on the 13th here in Seattle. It's already Valentine's day where you are? Actually, do Aussies even celebrate V-Day?

I hate it when the forum gobbles up posts, especially the ones that may or may not have taken you 4 HOURS TO TYPE UP!!! (*shakes his fist at the memory of 'that one time'... and all the other posts that took hours*)

When I started my first game on the forum I had my very first introduction post swallowed up for the prologue of the game. It pissed me off to no end as at that time I didn't do rough drafts on a different medium or anything like that, I just sat down and typed what came to me then did a quick read-over/editing and submit it. In fact, I still do that in alot of cases I guess... but I do occasionally write them down on paper first or work on the file in my private DM forum of my dead (although maybe not much longer now ) game.

Damn... rambling again... going to the store now.

Getting started with the feats now. I swapped out Overland Flight as a 4th level spell because I already have two flying spells now that I have Wind Walk and I added in Solid Fog. Let me know if this doesn't sound right. I think the list looks good now.

I'll start putting up the descriptions of the feats I have so far, then I'll look at complete divine and stormwrack later tonight after work. I only have 30 minutes till I must leave for work, but only work a few hours tonight.

Off to work now. I'll get the rest of the ones you see on the list up tonight. Those are the special abilities that I'm making into feats that I mentioned, from the Races of the Wild (except Air Mastery, which is of course from the MM). I may need your help assigning prerequisites to these abilities to keep them balanced. How big did you want this list to be again? Hehe. I can always take some of these feats with my normal feats/3 levels as well right?

Is this odd how I'm the only one posting the last 4-5 posts?

Forgive me if it is...

Anyhow, I got most of the feats from the original list I compiled typed up for your viewing pleasure. Please take note that I did not think of assigning prerequisites to any of them yet, but plan to look over them later and see if any of them require it to maintain balance. I will look at the complete divine and see what you were talking about in there tomarrow, then type up some more feats!

By the way, in case you were wondering the Elemental Familiar feat is just that - a small air elemental as a familiar. And, the Spell on the Wing feat is just like shot on the run, but with flying and spells instead of moving and shooting.

“ Is this odd how I'm the only one posting the last 4-5 posts? ”
Nahh. If I could get away with it I'd answer every single question in a seperate post.

“ Damn where are you from? Australia I'm guessing. ”
That's a... that is a really bad guess.

“ I think the list looks good now. ”
Yes, I don't think it could get much better.

“ How big did you want this list to be again? ”
Technically the list only needs to include the things that you'll actually take. But plans change over time, and I think feat design is fun, so longer=better.

“ I may need your help assigning prerequisites to these abilities to keep them balanced. ”
Minimum sorcerer levels would be a good start, as if the feats are weapon specializations of sorcery. A couple of feats that build directly off of others would also work. So far these aren't too powerful though. Natural fly speed won't work so well, since you don't have one, but those can be retooled to allow magical flight.

“ I can always take some of these feats with my normal feats/3 levels as well right? ”
Certainly. This is part of the reason I'm not so keen on the straightforward combat feats like Diving Charge and Flyby Attack; I think they should mainly be stuff that's impossible to get without actually being a sorcerer of the right type and level.

The other reason is that this is a magical bloodline for a magical character. So I feel the feats should all have to do with magic in some way. Though many of your choices do feel magical, even if they technically aren't.

“ And, the Spell on the Wing feat is just like shot on the run, but with flying and spells instead of moving and shooting. ”
What are the prerequisites? That doesn't seems nearly as good as Flyby Attack.

And I hope I don't spoil anything, but Empathy of the Winds is probably not such a great choice in this campaign...

Spell on the Wing is just a special ability of a racial substitution level for the Raptoran Sorcerer that I'm making into a feat. Flyby attack does cover that, and just about anything else though doesn't it? I guess one or the other should go.

I don't get why having bonuses to my interaction with natives of the elemental plane of air would be a bad idea in any setting, but I guess we'll just have to see. Keep this in mind though, I won't be able to choose any of these until 3rd level anyhow so that will give me plenty of time to figure out why I shouldn't choose that one.

I'll try and start tailoring them to be a bit more magical in nature.

I don't want to spoil, but you find there's a sli---ght shortage of creatures from the Elemental Plane of Air. So the bonuses probably wouldn't be used more than once, and then only if I tailor the game to it.

*waits for EJ to take something else, then rewrites plot to be entirely set in the Plane of Air*

Haha... don't worry. It wasn't really on the high point of my list of feats to take. If I take it, it will be more for flavor than anything.

Besides, if I want there to be more elementals from there... I'll summon some

Actually. I've seen it as being a good prerequisite for many of the more powerful feats. As far as the combat-orientated feats... they are things that I saw as a possibility for a more martial inclined sorcerer. Multi-class Djinni Blooded Fighter/Sorcerer/Monk! Also, since some of them require a natural fly speed, there is Born to Fly, which helps make up for not having a natural fly speed and effectively becomes a prerequisite for many other feats (unless I grow wings).

Nope, it ain't Europe, elmer. I'm Europe (oh, how full of myself does that sound? ), and I rarely see LeadPal online during the day.

But... you should always know the whereabouts of the admins. Otherwise... some comments might get you banned. Heh.
