Very important thread. This is sort of the campaign bible.

Coming up next: formalized character creation!

Okay, here is the current lineup, as I understand it.

Approved:
Benicus: Druggy from Riddleport.
Xaden: Noble, simple fighter-y guy. Probably local.
Jathi: Acolyte of Sarenrae. Local.

Unapproved:
Prince Yami: Psionic warrior. Needs characterization.

elmer_jok, SinbadEV: no concept that I know of.

Of course, all your characters still need work. Twenty lashes from the cat-o-nine-tails to you all!

I went and posted the rules for character creation, along with the sheet format I like best. I'll get writing an example for you soon.

EDIT: Life Skills are finished already, along with some quick notes on other skills. I'll finish the skills section tommorow, and move on to Action Points.

Hey, I have a full background ready I just need a tie-in!

Speaking of which...
EDIT: By the way, what are we all being class wise? We have a fighter, a Cleric, a Psionic warrior, and a undecided (me) so far.
EDIT EDIT: I decided on a class: Hexblade. Appropriate I think . Looks like we need a skillzmonkey though and an arcane.

Okay. The game is still packed, assuming elmer and Sinbad reappear.

Be sure to e-mail me your sheets and backgrounds before posting them, so that I can finalize my approval. And nitpick. Remember, it's easy to criticize, and fun, too!

Hey Benicus. from what Leadpal tells me were both playing Varisian's. we were thinking maybe we could work that into our characters backstories somehow. make the game more interesting.

Well, you may be playing Shoanti, depending on exactly which of the character hooks you were thinking of. But you being Varisian works well given Kad's criminal ties.

Either way, the fun remains!

Kad is 1/2 Varisian 1/2 Shoanti...maybe even an evil twin...

I was also thinking of renaming him to Seraph Stormshroud, but haven't decided.

Or the crazy evil twin brother of a friend of a friend who's in actuality, your cousin!

Anyway, tell me about your character and we can see if we have more of a hook.

Well his name is Kuroda and basically he's your typical Verisian. Wanders around with his band. His only remarkable feature is his psionic ability. I was thinking that he would be in whatever town the group started in to earn some money, repair gear, buy food you cant get from digging through the wilderness. I decided to avoid the whole "tragic past" angle. havent worked out the other fine details yet.

Hey LP you don't mind if I move the character sheet around a bit (like, so I don't have to scroll a half mile to find out my attacks, etc.) do yah?

EDIT: NM LP, looks like what I was trying to do is impossible on the boards. oh well.

Hmmm...not sure what angle to do if your just a psychic, since Seraph (decided to make his old first name his middle name) has pretty much just shown up in Sandpoint a year ago and doesn't have many ties to his heritage.

Eh, it might work and it might not. Just as long as it augments, rather than distracts, your tragic future.

NM LP, looks like what I was trying to do is impossible on the boards.
I get the feeling it involved witchcraft. But if you do want to change it in a mundane way, go ahead; I can easily change it back if I find your version irritating.

Seraph? Seriously? Hmm, typical druggy-speak. Fair 'nuff.

Hmm... yeah, not sure how they could be connected. Typical Varisians don't hang out with Sczarni, as a rule... so maybe Kuroda is not a typical Varisian? Or perhaps his family is not typical? Maybe Kuroda was also from Riddleport, but left with some Varisians at one point? Eh, it still seems like a stretch.

Well, how did your character become a hexblade, Ben? Perhaps there's something to that. Maybe it's a variation of sorcery (which isn't too uncommon with Varisians)? Perhaps it has something to do with the old ruins Riddleport is built around?

Maybe talk to Sinbad or elmer (who apparently doesn't have internet access right now). Otherwise, I think it might just do to give Kad an NPC connection to the party.

Sooo:

Xaden's PC lives in Sandpoint, and is from the Scarnetti noble family.

Quinn lives in Sandpoint, and is a priest in the making.

Seraph is from Riddleport, and lived in Sandpoint for a year.

Kuroda is nomadic, as has likely travelled the breadth of Varisia.

Leadpal: Of course it would augment his future. he wouldn't be used to wird and freaky crap happening to him

Benicus: oh well. If i come up with something interesting i'll tell you, but i guess for now i'll just work on my sheet

Yes, the evil witchcraft of columns! Lol, I just have a thing about not being able to read my character sheet all at once...call me ocd. I think I'll just make the sheet the generic way and then include a monster-type stat sheet as well for myself.

Seraph, one because it sounds cool and two because it's ironic (it means angel).

The hexblade thing hasn't really been cultivated by Seraph yet, he just knows that he's unlucky and when people get around him they get hurt. It is a variation of sorcery but takes more use to get the hang of it. Think Black Cat from Marvel when she gets unlucky powers but slightly less controlled.

Tries not to reveal his whole character in the ooc... So LeadPal makes it so you don't have to! I didn't know about any ruins near Riddleport (are you hiding plot points from us ?).

Sinbad, chu workin on?

I didn't mention the ruins in Riddleport mostly because I never thought about it, actually. I was planning on doing full writeups on Sandpoint and Riddleport that would cover those things, but have been busy getting mechanics out of the way and answering a billion gajillion zillion* PMs.

The "riddle" in Riddleport is a stone arch covered in ancient runes that looms over the natural harbour. Scholars, spellcasters, and psions alike have been trying to decipher it for some time, but haven't had much luck due to the fact that the pirates would really rather use the harbour for their own purposes. So a few scholars pay them exorbitant fees to avoid getting stabbed while they study it, and the rest... get stabbed.

Sandpoint also has a ruin, the "Old Light", which is, naturally, a gigantic crumbling ruin of a lighthouse. Not nearly so mysterious, but still pretty darn impressive to look at.

In fact, there are ruins all over the place. The city of Kaer Maga is carved out of a huge fortress; Magnimar is built next to the Irespan, a massive bridge that rises hundreds of feet into the air before crumbling away into the Varisian Gulf; the Storval Rise has a huge flight of stairs carved into them... and so on. You can't go anywhere in Varisia without bumping into the ruins of civilizations past.

The hexblade thing hasn't really been cultivated by Seraph yet, he just knows that he's unlucky and when people get around him they get hurt.
I always liked that interpretation. So, as far as he himself knows, he's just warrior?
