Well, I haven't heard from Colin at all in the past month, so for the time being, Delora is yet another NPC under my control until such time as he comes back to claim her or to end his standing with the game for good. Tis his choice, though I will be saddened to see him go.

So, let us continue with the game...

Note: Im not trying to rob players of a chance to let Drumish have a funeral fit for a dwarvish cleric.

I'm not planning on roleplaying the whole funeral out, anyways. It'll take too long, and I want to try and get the rest of the game back under way asap. But I was going to spend like a week of real time to roleplay a small part of it out maybe. We'll see how it goes.

Anyways, I've been thinking. This whole entire game smacks of Cthulhu-esque images and feelings, so I was wondering how you all felt about me introducing the sanity rules from d20 Call of Cthulhu.

I will post up a brief summary of how it works in D&D for those of you who don't know about it (I believe that only Cadrius and Cadogan Trahem both have the book as well as myself) once I've gotten around to typing it up. This week is going to be fairly hectic for me, as I have two exams this week *joy for me*, so expect it within a week or so.

The only reason that I might rail against such things is I really dislike rules that force me to roleplay differently. Something that only affects a game mechanic I can deal and work around with, but activlely assigning, say, paranoia to a character I'm playing just doesn't sit right with me. Of course if I were to come up with it or if we were to talk about it first, I'm good to go. I just don't like that feeling of a loss of control over how I'm to portray their personality, thoughts, and emotions.

That really is my favorite part of playing and forgive me if I'm a little hesitant to have it threatened. Of course I'm only somewhat familiar with the insanity rules in Cthulhu and I've even tried to incorporate madnesses into a game of my own. It met with moderate approval. Ultimately my players liked the idea but didn't like having something assigned to them.

I love the increasingly horrific aspect of the game but I'd likely feel more comfortable letting such insanities work their way in either voluntarily or via player-DM conversations rather than some game mechanic. But that's just me and we all know I'm crazy.

I tend to agree with Cadrius on this one.
Not looking to have Darbin go the sanity route... tend to walk the fence a couple times, but as the game and RP dictates, not a game mechanic telling me it's time. However, I don't have the books, and am unfamiliar with the rules, so post 'em up and we'll see!

I personally like the Sanity rules for Cthulhu, it adds another level of the character, personally I dont like how D&D lets characters just throw themselves into the fray and the unknown constantly without fear or worry. Sanity covers this well.

However of the majority of the players don't want it im willing to do without.

*shrug* I'm definitely not arguing against such realistic consequences of facing untold horrors, I just strongly dislike a game mechanic that forces me to do so. The fact that included is a random table of insanities (temporary, permanent, etc) simply bugs me. If a character of mine is going to develop something, fine, I'm all for it, but I don't want it to be forced upon my via a table or through sanity points.

Of course I'm aware that if we had been playing a Cthulhu game all along I wouldn't have a single problem with sanity points. Hmm, maybe I need to rethink why it is I'm against this as I'm not likely making any sense.

I'd really like to see the charts and stuff before making my decision.

With random charts, this tend to get silly or awkward... I'm not playing in many games right now, and I don't want a silly/dumb game.

And Cadrius, you're making perfect sense... don't worry... it's all in your head!!!

Well, just remember that back when we started playing this nearly a year ago (yes, it -has- been that long), d20 CofC wasn't even out, and I had no idea that the Freeport trilogy had so many roots within it.

Also, I wasn't planning on using the full amount of sanity rules in the CofC rule book. If I can direct your attentions towards the back of the book, you will notice there a section that has been wonderfuly provided for integrating the CofC rules with D&D 3rd Edition. Those are the rules I was planning on implementing (such as a Sanity Resistance, and the like).

I, too have to read the rules carefully, but I personally feel that it could be a good enhancement to the game. I wouldn't merely shove a random ailment onto you without consulting you first. I may be an evil DM, but am not that bad.. honest. As I said, I will have to read them again to become familiar with the hybrid rules.

I'll be going into this blind, but will trust those who have the rules in front of them's judgements.

I'm willing to give it a try - if that's what everyone else wants.

Ok, Ive taken into consideration all that you have said, and have decided to not implement the CofC rules into the game at the moment. My reason is that the game is too far developed now to go about changing it and making things more complex than they are.

However, because it is a Cthulhu-esque game, I do ask that you continue to roleplay it accordingly (not that you haven't already). For example, if your character is deathly afraid of something, and comes across that something, roleplay it.

Thanks.

Yours in gaming,
Andy.

Well since the decision went in my favor I think it's appropriate for me to celebrate! Just kidding.

I'm all for growing madness and terror and all those other lovely things, I just want to be in control of how they progress. I guess that's what it boiled down to for me.

Now enough of this! Let's get back to gaming!

I agree... however, just don't want it to be the central focus... I'm liking the story, and the paranoia's et al are a good addition...

Speaking of getting back to gaming, how do you two plan on escorting a delirious bard with you the three miles to Codshallow Bay?

And just because he believes he is a horse doesn't give you the right to ride him...

Ok, in the interests of speeding up game play once more, I'll assume you want to use the cart...
