This is going to be a test of a new feature Gral has been making. We don't care about the rules or the actual game, though there is no reason for them to be fun too. What is this? Maps.

But first let's lay out how this will work. We'll take turns posting in initative order, each person rolling their own dice using the forum dice. Once it comes around to one of my posts I'll post the results. If we move fast enough this shouldn't be a handicap.

According to the character sheet each of you only has one attack, we'll ignore things like AoO, grapple, cover and the rest of that. You have HP, an attack and an AC. The basics.

You can move 30ft in a round then do your attack, unless you're a dwarf. Each square is 5ft. Every second diagonal square you move is 10ft. Assume everything on the map that isn't the road or grass to be impassable and you'll need to walk around it.

Which brings us to the maps. When you post your move what you'll be doing is also updating the map. This is super easy to do. Just quote the post above yours that contains the most upto date version of the map and look for the map code. It should look like this:

In that code is a line that refers to your character. Taking elf for instand, s/he will focus on this line:
[token=I7 text=Elf (not pictured, tree hugs)][b][color="Black"]Ef[/color][/b][/token]
In which 'token=I7' marks where the elf is standing. If Elf decided to go and hug some trees, this would need be changed reflect the Elf's new position, written as 'token=E7'. Change that section in the code, and post the entire thing when you make your move and we get the following.

e: If you quote the post, it initially comes up in the WYSIWYG editor, and automatically parses the map image as a link. Then when you click the plaintext icon in the upper right, it leaves those [url] tags, which messes up the grid when you post it. Which is kind of weird.

Otherwise holy shit!

Yeah, happens no matter what on a quote. Leaving it in the WYSIWYG and changing something gets you this:

You have to deliberately get rid of the [url] tags somehow.

We just need to disable or default to off the 'Automatically parse links in text' thing. I've worked out how and it should be easy enough, but last time I thought something was easy enough I broke the site. So we're waiting on Gral.

I wasn't getting the same issue, but I had my editor mode set to "standard editor" which apparently doesn't parse the links. I switched it to "enhanced interface" and now it parses the links. I'll have a look.

Did you quote your own post or itches' initial post? Because your posts now have the [url] tag embedded in them, which is (I think) why it is still parsing.

Quoting a working map still inserts the url tags.

That's itches first one. The url tags get added immediately on quoting it.
I don't think it has to do with the "Automatically parse links in text" option.

This officially qualifies as awesome.

Also, I had no bugs at all on my first attempt using this, I'm running the most recent version of firefox, the same one zachol says he is using. zachol, are you sure you don't have a plugin interfering in some way?

I assume you can use any image, and this puts a grid over the image for you, and tracks the positioning of the tokens, overlaying them? If so, I might be in love. How does the height of the grid get inputted? How is grid=25 interpreted exactly? Does the image have to be hosted on the site?

As for the test, I guess I'll take human.

This is mostly true, except the tracking part. You are actually inputting the location of each token:

[token=N6 text=HuMan with a big sword][b][color=Black]Hu[/color][/b][/token]

means that you want to put a token at grid location N6 (column N, row 6), and the token you are using in this case is just the letters "Hu" (with some regular old BB code formatting thrown in to make it bold and colored). If you hover over Hu on the grid you'll see the text you specified (HuMan with a big sword).


Everything is in pixels, so:

[gridmap size=600x420 grid=25]

means that your image is 600 pixels wide by 420 pixels high, each grid square is 25 pixles high and 25 pixels wide.

The image does not need to be hosted on site.

The trio of travelers were traversing the track towards the tenth hour of Thursday, moving in a single file as they raced after their kidnapped companions, a pair of Halflings. HuMan was in the lead, followed by Dwarf with Elf bringing up the rear.

Suddenly, ambush! An arrow shot out of the shrubs surrounding the path, flying towards HuMan only to land well wide of the mark.

With a chorus of war cries, their ambushers revealed themselves. A pair of diminutive goblins grasping rust pitted swords rushed onto the track behind them, while a larger, muscular goblin holding a war axe and wearing a helm adorned with deer horns stepped out in front of them. Behind him, a fourth tiny and sneaky looking goblin lurked, holding a small bow.
