Realms Stuff & Ideas

  • Magic - I want to get away from the typical "wizardry" arcana to a form of magic that is more elemental - more driven by gods/powers that are connected to the earth. Wizards have been somewhat rare in my past campaigns and are even more rare in this game. In fact, I would like to regulate them to lone, scholarly types who are rarely seen. Many of them have been mind-bent and twisted by ages of magical study and thus, could end up as powerful villians or masterminds behind plots. Sorcerers are more prevalent as they can "tap into" the inherent magic in the earth. Same for divine magic - I want to see more druidic power than your standard cleric power. Make sense?
  • Cultures and creatures - I'll tell you what I like > Uthgardt barbarians, small farming or port towns, islands, wilderness, lizards, lycanthropes, snakes, feral critters, giants, gnolls, and lots of animals or animalistic folk. Most of my games feature these types prominently. Did I mention dragons and beholders? Vampires or witches?
  • Action, action, and more ACTION! I love it and like to throw it at players at any time. I also love plot twists and plots within plots. Should this mature into a full campaign (which looks inevitable), there will be a little bit of everything, but DO YOU LIKE the level of combat so far?
  • Magic stuff - use it or lose it is my philosophy. I like to give out neat stuff, but I want players to use it - DON'T HORDE potions, scrolls, items with charges, etc. Use 'em...and I'll keep dishing 'em out.
  • Other random thoughts - don't expect to see the various Realms personalities popping up in the game. Elminster, the Harpells, Khelben Blackstaff, and other god-like creations of Ed Greenwood have no place in my games. NO PSIONICS! Sexuality is always a good thing! I love when the party splits up! No, seriously.
Just copied this from the OOC thread. Gonna be adding a whole lot more here in the coming weeks.

PATHFINDER RPG will replace the 3.5 rules system for the remainder of this game! I'm very excited about this change - Paizo is on the cutting edge of gaming and Pathfinder is well-crafted and play-tested by gamers for gamers - in a word, it's AWESOME!

All things change...in time...and since I posted this almost a year and a half ago, I have come to understand that Pathfinder is just another system...and I really like it less than 3.5. I am working on some Forgotten Realms ideas and will return to 3.5. I'd go all the way back to 1E/2E but a couple of my players really like 3.5, so we'll stick with that until I begin an entirely new campaign...which won't happen until some time next year...if then.
