When the west was wild......

Just getting a feel to see if anyone here might be game for something not typical, not high fantasy, horror, anime or scifi.....more like historical or at least fictional.....a Wild West style RPG like the OGL Wild West book by Mongoose Publishing? Something along the lines of Clint Eastwood or John Wayne style westerns.

Anyone game? Am pondering getting this book and maybe running a game in the new year.

Well looks like there is only one book per se at this moment. The OGL Wild West book from Mongoose Publishing. I spoke with a fellow from Kiln Productions last night about their Civil War supplement they're planning to release next year, might be helping them in some way with it.

I checked around and there are a few other Wild West d20 style games out there, but from my previous experience with Mongoose's fine products and the reviews it looks like it might be a good buy. Thinking of ordering it online at a discount.

Watched a flick or two last night too and reserved some books from the library on the Wild West/Gunfighters etc. Might as well do some research for my possible game thoughts.

Any preferences on what you'd like to possibly play?

Sure, if that's what you'd like to do. I'm open to a gunslinger/gang of bandits/outlaw types. Could see how it works. According to the forum thread on the Moongoose boards, those are some of the options for classes.

No haven't seen that one, seen lots of Clint Eastwood and John Wayne westerns among my earlier movie days. Was a fan of the "Lone Ranger" show etc too as a child...heh.. watched Unforgiven the other night and am pondering Tombstone and some others.

Reserved some historical books at the library to reference as well. I'm in GA so we got tons of info here on the Civil War period, but I'm thinking somewhere between AZ and WY with a 1860s-1870s feel.

Will make note of this one too to check out somehow...picked up some books on the history and fiction of westerns at the library tonight and ordered my copy OGL Wild West from Buy.com for $25 (with budget S&H), not bad.

So I'm open to talking more about the future game I'm itching to try my trigger finger at.

So who's interested?

Life is hard in the desert, have to live it when you can, have to take it when you can,

there’s no mercy, no forgiveness in the desert,

give the soft life to those who can’t live the real one

still working on the concept, the book looks good, interesting rules, it looks like the game can be pretty deadly, life is cheap,

Just got my copy of the book, I'm surprised that it took so long for someone to develop this type of game. I'll probably be a tough gunslinger or gambler...ah the possibilities.

Just a little humor here. Tomorrow after my paycheck gets deposited, I'm ordering a couple other useful Western supplements off RPGNow, two pdf files while I await my OGL Wild West book to arrive in the mail.

Gold Rush Games: Gunslingers RPG (Western RPG using Action!)
Gold Rush Games: Action! conversion to d20 supplement.

The Gold Rush pdf has had very good reviews and looks good (has illustrations for all the guns!)...

Think this will be a good game, could use another player or two, but 2 is a good start!

They said its a wild rough time on the Moongoose forums. Looks like a good game from all I've read so I ordered it, waiting anxiously on my copy. See my other note about the 2 PDFs I'm going to get off RPGNow.com, you might find them of interest.

Looks like Flagg is leaning to a gunslinger/gambler type...what feel you?

The original Deadlands game is a great one. However, the d20 version seems to be lacking in all the fun wackiness that made the original interesting. But this might just be the style of game we used to play. I sort of miss playing Doomtown.
