Will you hold back the Red Hand? (D&D 3.5)

Hey all, I have picked up a copy of the Red Hand of Doom campaign/adventure book, and I am contemplating running it here on our own ORP forums. Just posting this to gauge interest in this possibility, and if there is a decent amount of interest, I will start it up.

The game will have 4-5 characters of level 5, and will be set in the Shining South region of Faerun in the Forgotten Realms. I have a few of the FR sourcebooks, and a decent amount of the sourcebooks from the standard line also. All non-core book items that players want will be subject to approval, of course, but unless it's completely game-breaking (such as a pet sphere of annihilation or your own deck of many things), the chances of me saying no are few and far between.

As said, this is a post to gauge interest, so feel free to post if you are interested. Or if you are looking for a lower level swashbuckling adventure set in Freeport, check out this post

Interest posted thus far
Anori - unknown character or storyhook
Lando the Archmagi - unknown character or storyhook
Linklegacy77 - Druid (unknown race or storyhook)
Prince Yami - Cleric of Tymora/Divine Oracle (unknown race), Vault of Vrath Keep
Skidrow - Paladin of Helm/Torm/Tyr (unknown race), Divine Inspiration

Heh, I guess I wanna play in both of your games... However, I don't have any FR books anymore, so I might need a little help in that department. Just promise me no encounters with Elminster and I'm in

*grins* Don't worry, skidrow - no encounters with Elminster will be happening in this one, I can assure you. I'm intending for the PCs will be the heroes of this particular tale.

Since there is a decent amount of interest in this game so far, I'll do up some character creation guidelines and put them up on the computer over the weekend, depending on when I can get to my computer next. Feel free to start thinking of character concepts that you'd like to use in this. Please note that I don't have all of the books, so if there is something from a book that I don't haven I'll let you know. I'll post up the full guidelines later on, but this is what I figure out at the moment.

Edit: The character creation guidelines are below.

Ok, I've devised them while I sit here at work tonight, so I'll put them up. If any adjustments are to be made with them, I'll do so over the weekend (as I'm sure I've forgotten something in them).

Character level: 5th
Starting XP: 12,000 OR 10,800 (if multiclassing penalties apply)
Abilities: 35 point buy, all abilities starting at 8. Please let me know what ability was increased at level 4.
Race: PHB or Races of Faerun (a maximum of +1 ECL)
Class: PHB or Complete Adventurer/Arcane/Divine/Warrior (some of the Complete classes will not suit, such as the asiatic themed classes)
Alignment: Any non-evil
Patron Deity: Any non-evil deity
Starting Wealth: 9,000gp. Characters may craft their own items using item creation feats if they have them, paying for them according to the rules in the DMG. Otherwise, prices are according to the DMG.
Starting HP: Max HP for first level, according to class. I will roll HP for the rest of the levels, unless you wish to take a half dice for each level (d4=2hp, d6=3hp, etc). Once you choose what method is used to generate HP, you are stuck with the result.

Story Hooks: As said earlier, the characters will be entering the story under a manner of different story hooks. They are:

Vault of Vrath Keep (maximum of 3 characters) - Characters taking this story hook will know one another (possibly as a pre-existing adventuring group, or possibly having only gotten together for this one escapade), having found a map detailing the location of a possible treasure vault located somewhere in the Shaarwood. They are all headed together to the town of Drellin's Ferry, the nearest township, to use as a base of operations.

Divine Inspiration (maximum of 2 characters) - The character(s) belong to a holy organization(s) (for example, a druids circle or a church) and are urged to go to the town of Drellin's Ferry, on the River Shaar, at the behest of an elder within the organization after they had recieved a vision. Characters taking this hook may know one another if they belong to the same organization.

Message Delivery (maximum of 1 character) - The character lives in the local region (within a tenday's travel), and is hired or asked by a mentor or elder to deliver a message to one Soranna Anitah of Drellin's Ferry.

You can post your character on this list, or email me at kahluah @ gmail . com (sans the spaces, of course ).

I think I'll be a paladin of Helm, Torm, or Tyr, and I'l be using the Divine Inspiration.

hmm. i'm thinking cleric with the storm lord PRC though i cant think of any specific storm god. any ideas?. I would use the vault of vrath keep story hook.

Question. are you allowing flaws? and if so do you have a specific list of allowable ones?

Would you consider allowing the Phb 2 classes? I'm considering playing a knight or a dragon shaman.

Skidrow: Paladin of Helm, Tyr, or Tor works for me - let me know what you decide, and all will be good Will mark you down for the Divine Inspiration story hook.

Prince Yami: The only god in the Forgotten Realms that is a deity of storms is Talos, the Destroyer (and having him as a patron deity is mentioned as being a prerequisite for the PrC). Unfortunately, Talos is a Chaotic Evil deity, and I have that as a restriction, so would have to ask that you change deities (which would mean you wouldn't be able to take the storm lord prc). For a fairly comprehensive list of the FR deities, I'd suggest looking here.

As for the flaws, at this point in time, I'm not allowing flaws into the game. From what I can see, the game will be hard and interesting enough without additional difficulties in it.

Linklegacy77: At the moment, given that I don't have access to the PHB2, I'm not considering any of the additional classes from it. Until I get a chance to pick the book up and read it properly, I'm somewhat loathe to include something I am not fully aware of. Will look into getting the book once my funds start easing up a little bit, but unfortunately, that'll be either just before christmas or just after it (damnable birthday season).

Tymora works nicely in that - if you don't have a copy of Faiths and Pantheons, then would you like for me to send you the stuff in it relating to Tymora?

A quick edit - have upped the starting wealth for characters to be 9,000gp, not 7,000gp, according to the DMG.

I'm a sucker for FR, own a lot of background material and know it well. Also met many of the FR authors over the years including Ed Greenwood.

I'll take an empty slot if there is one available.

Very few. I volunteer/work for Dragon*Con as one of their tournament RPG judges. I've played with or met (to get an autograph or talk too) most everyone who's come since 1992.

Heya Lando - as it stands, am still waiting for word from someone I contacted before about the game. If that comes back as a negative, then you are welcome to join in the fun

Does Faiths and Pantheons have anything about Tyr? If so, I wouldn't mind reading up on and aqcuainting myself with it, because my half-elf paladin of Tyr needs a little more fleshing out, background wise.

And don't you have to be evil to play an assassin?
