Your party consists of Veit, Anya, Tolliver, Sgt Stoltz, Corporal Higgins, soldats Holst, Hiens, Dupree (f), and a priest Hans Aniss.

its predawn (about 30 minutes until sunrise) you're to meet the druid in a glade about an hour hike into the wood. There is supposedly a trail that is "easy" to find. Higgins is a specialist in outdoor survival.

Ok good start, not sure how to follow up though, I feel as if Veit has already commented on the situation and that the next response would be from the druid/druid's party or a member of Veit's party noticing something. Maybe I'm missing where you'd like me to go from here?

you have to journey into the wood to meet the druid - right now you're just off the train waiting at the boundary between "civilization" and the dark primordial world of the forest.

if you have a different start that you think would work better we absolutely can go with that.

I don't have a different start, but I still don't know where to go in terms of writing. Do you want me to write we head off into the woods? Are you looking for reflection on the woodsiness?

i was thinking reflection maybe on the case so far, or the descent into woodsiness - an exchange with your underlings (mainly just tolliver or anya). I could have Anya recount what she knows about the druid through dialogue (which she would have already tell you) as a convenient way to drop info for the reader - that could start from you or if tolliver (the "chatty" one).

Really just throw out what your character is thinking, or if veit is in a quiet mood then tolliver and or anya will react. You've been cooped up in a rail car for awhile, lots of time to think about things - if there are any revelations or dots that he's connected you could drop hints to those if you feel ready.

Hmm. Diplomatic mission. I think Tolliver wants to put his best foot forward. He'll plan on being more seen than heard, but just in case, he won't want to put his foot in his mouth, so he'll cast Silver Tongue while they're still early out. If he rolls well, it will last for a while. Gonna need an Enchantment roll...

11 (Target 13-)... Success! Looks like Tolliver gets a +4 to his social skills for the next two hours. I would have liked for it to be longer, but he can always freshen it up if necessary.

If Tolliver has any useful info on this druid (or druids in general), he'd share it. If he has such info, you want to fill me in briefly and I can embellish, or should I just make something up?

Remember when rolling for spell casting to subtract 1/10th the active cost of the spell from your control skill - so in the case of silver tongue (30 active points) you'd have a -3 to your skill roll. So your roll would look something like : Enchantment 13< -3 (active point penalty) +2 (skill levels with all magic) = 12<

Your knowledge of druids would be more related to their role in Dhakaanese culture. Besides that as a Brelish city boy you probably wouldn't have heard much about them. Being well read you would be aware that (particularily amongst the orcs) there is a strong tradition of nature magics - some of which is what civilized persons would consider "good" some, especially the brand practiced by tribes influenced by the cults of the Dragon Below, would be "evil".

I think your post is fine - If you can work it in i'd like you to touch on the material component/focus for enchantment spells (rope/chain). It doesn't have to be obvious to people watching, but i'd like to work in the differences between clerical and arcane magic.

One of the tacks that I was thinking for an explanation of why one would use a focus is that its necessary to channel raw magic through something to keep it from frying the caster. it explains why a mage would "hamstring" themselves, i think it also sort of gives the feeling that arcane magics are dangerous or "wrong" - it also makes natural mages (sorcerers) seem more like innate magical creatures than just a "class" you pick.

Sorry. Got caught up in grading for a few days there. Three more days in the semester to go! Well, then finals week.

You've got your material component addenda. I also added a little somethin' somethin' to the post as they enter the wood.

very nice on both counts. Don't feel that you have to keep your components seperate from your person and produce them every time. You can have them stashed or secreted about your person, disguised as normal items etc.
