And by pushing him, I made a series of survival checks and only Lade rolled decently. It was an option you seemed not to have considered so I hoped to prompt some IC posting by strategic PMs. It seems that you can never count on itches. Never!

Yet you keep trying. When will you learn?

No more top secret insight for PMs for you then.

Ohohoh my. What to do?

Sorry that I've not been as active here - I didn't have lots of time and set my priority on the Island game so that we can have a solid start there.

Also, I wanted to give itches the chance to be the first to react to a new situation.

Short post coming now, longer one later if anyone else posts.

Bah, there are no automatic failures on skill checks. And there are major penalties for range for spot. So all might be well. Let's see Lade make a hide check.

One for Kjetil (unless someone suggests talking or attacking): 7

See, Gral? Grimjaw's roll isn't quite so bad.

Excellent. Doing the equivalent of putting your own hands over your eyes to hide.

Is this you hiding while the rats come around from their rapid trip from the heavens?

Yes. And is Grimjaw aware of how poorly he's hidden?

Oh heavens no. Hide is an opposed check, isn't it?

It is most definitely opposed so I won't know if I succeed or if I fail. But that isn't what I'm asking, really. I'm more asking if I know that my hiding job is not very good. Regardless of how amusing it is for a dwarf to try and hide behind a pigeon.

I'll go with no unless anybody can make an especially compelling case otherwise.

I don't know what you mean by compelling case, but it seems in everyday life I generally know how well I've performed a task relative to my ability. This seems a completely different thing to me than checking that result against what I was trying to accomplish.

ie. On my anniversary I stop by the local grocery store and spend $10 on a bad flower arrangement. I'm quite sure this is very far from the best I could have done, yet it remains to be seen whether or not it will be sufficient to keep me out of the doghouse.

I think any action that involves a skill check is your character trying.

So, you've rolled badly, that doesn't reflect your character doing a deliberate half arsed job of hiding. It's that he doesn't realise his arm is sticking out, or something.

For the anniversary analogy, you've made your florism check, rolled badly and not realised that the $10 bunch is crappy as opposed to it being some amazing deal (that you might attain with a higher check).

I do see what you mean though, I often know when I do something that I've not done it well, which is apart from my effort. It's a tricky one.

Would the rest of us notice if someone had hidden really badly?

These are questions beyond the scope of the system.

I'm going to say no, on account of you attempting to hide from a group who are distant, so none of the hiders are in a position to see their own flaws.

What we need is out-of-body reconnaissance. Or water.

I'm journeying to more pleasant climes for the weekend. Lets all hope and pray for an itches IC post by the time we get back.

And maybe some news from treehouse.

I just had this humorous image of me putting together an entire newspaper dedicated to news from treehouse. Then I realized that the extent of my knowledge is relegated to "Last Activity: 2nd of November, 2010 01:03" and decided I'd have to settle for saying the "Hail Itches" 372 times.

Let's just pretend you did it and it was great.

The comics section was almost as humorous as the stock quotes.

*pretends*

The return of the house of trees and numerous itches posts... that covers all the bases, the major human needs.
