AFAIK all the behind the scenes corroboration is complete and posted, so you can post whatever you like in the IC.

BP, did you have something in mind for Blarth this morning or should we just move on?

I didn't have anything in particular, I just felt like I should post something since it's now been a while since I posted. However, I've been awfully busy recently and haven't had time to post. If some one's got something on the burner, go ahead and post it and I'll jump in when I have the time to write something coherently.

Random mindless encounter violence time. I give you, Formians (Warriors). I figure each character faces one which lets us run our own self contained fight. Let's also try to have a fight for once where someone doesn't almost die.

Shouldn't you be burning plague victims, that you no-doubt infected in the first place?

itches, can you tell us more about the Formians? Are they 3rd edition DnD Formians? I only ask because I'll have to be deciding what some of these Formians do when they attack, like why are they attacking? Do they want to kill us and eat us? Or just kill us because they fear us? Or do they want to take prisoners?

Like any method actor I need to know what motivates the Formians in this scene.

I see they have "Hive Mind" which means they should all attack in concert, and likely in a very efficient and intelligent manner.

Then maybe there should be only one person who directs all their actions. And I guess that one person should be ... itches.

If there are only Warriors in the group then it is likely a raiding party sent out to gather/find supplies for the hive. If there is a taskmaster or two in the group, then they are probably out hunting for thralls. Given that itches wants a fight where no one almost dies, I think he was thinking of the former rather than the latter.

Also, if our parties are fairly evenly matched in size (as itches suggested) having all the formians focus on one character is actually not all that beneficial to them as it allows us to do the same. It'll be far more efficient if they tag off in such a manner so that some try to engage as many of us as possible while others gang up on those who remain. Ideally, the ones being ganged up on first will be the ones precieved as the bigger threats.

As such, I'd suggest that you decide whether your character would be a threat or not. If not, then you might want to pair up with some one on handling one formian. If so, then you'll want to be dealing with two or more.

Can you guess what I think Blarth is?

Damn Gral, you knew the setting for this fight!

The formians were out raiding for slaves, a fair bit away from the hive. They encountered a group of adventurers who were too much for them and most of the formians got killed. With the leader killed the local area hivemind went down and the formians became little more then psycotic animals (not smart) and ran off. As they were running they came across us and attacked.

Or "random encounter, stop thinking about it and start killing"

This leads us to each having our own little fight, a system that hasn't been used for a random encounter since the Gnolls of Chatper2/3 and one that worked much better then giant character-eating Lions.

Atleast that was the plan.

I suppose any number of explanations is possible here. My initial thought had to do with foraging due to some incident within the hive. After all, it is a little cold for insects to be out. It'd be interesting if there was a deeper reason for these creatures being driven out of their hive and attacking well-armed people.

Or maybe they're just crazy.

Deeper reason? It's a random encounter! Kill stuff!

Or rather: Kill stuff without feeling angst!

It was in danger of becoming a habit (father had always defined a habit as anything you did the same way at least three times).
I love how Blarth can't count. We've had to run out of three cities now (Blarth, Shade and Nicos). The one back in Chapter 4 was the first, then the one where we found Juni, then this last one.
