You mean you look forward to seeing me get pissed, lose my notes, forget to post and then get bored.

Always.... watching.....

Hm, well I won't just vanish. If I stop playing for some reason there's definitely going to be a scene.

Jeez, I got two natural twenties on my last attack roll in Crazy Eben's game. It's too bad he isn't using the insta kill rules or well... it would be interesting to see what happens with those rules and an activated Merciful weapon

More confusing or much more obvious?

Hint: It's the latter.

If you use colors you have to remember the color code or constantly look it up, while if you just type what language you're using you just have to know how to read.

Meh, I prefered not using color codes, but I'll just do what my DM feels like doing.

It's takes half a second to check the color code if you don't quite remember.

Well, normally the group ends up using two to three languages at the most - and you'd better be able to remember those or... or... heck, remember them!

Why not do both at times as a reminder?

The elf addresses the dwarf in gnomish "Would you please tie my shoe laces?"

The dwarf answers the elf in the goblin tongue: Would you care to lick my balls? The elf never knowing that in secret, had learned the gnomish ways of speech.

For foreign languages, it's not too bad. So long as it's sparse, not eye-searing, and the coding is kept simple. But one can usually get away with just posting "X says in German" or whatever. Or like Tash suggests, both if one really feels the differentiating is needed.

It's when people use colors for normal conversation all in the same language, or for thoughts, and/or actions, that it begins to annoy me as posts become rainbow colored for no gorram reason. It's actually turned me off some games, or playing with some people.

So to an extent I agree with Shoe; we theoretically all learned how to use description, punctuation, and paragraph breaks as early as elementary school, so use them. If you can't take the time to read carefully what the GM and fellow players have written, WTH are you doing in a text based game? And if you don't respect your fellow gamers enough to think they can parse your blocks-of-text prose, well...

For rarer things (like down in Wired's game with the character Paul's headroomie) colors can be acceptable ways to differentiate the oddities and can be simpler for some. But overall color, like bolding, should be an accent, not the main feature.

I like colour codes as they avoid clunky sentence structure and allow mid-sentence language changing. People who don't are most likely criminals and/or vagabonds.
