Khole slowly returned his gaze to Vole, and his visage softened somewhat. "Yeah, and I'm sure that'll all check out. Not that I'm thinking you'd be behind this, Vole - it's not your style. I'm just collecting information though, and I'll pass on your story to whoever takes over down here. It's not the Sanctified that'll be conducting the official investigation. Her royal britches will probably send some of her fancy goons down here to show face." He snickered maliciously, and his gleeful face was even more unsettling than his serious expression.

"But -" he added, "That doesn't mean we won't still be watching. Especially newcomers."

Arwen listened closely, but said nothing. One thing was certain, she didn't trust the word of the Sanctified, especially when it came to anything related to the Circle. In fact, it wouldn't surprise her one bit if the Sanctified had staged this so called breach to attack the Circle. Still, she knew better than to speak her inner thoughts.

She was new and naturally viewed with suspicion and this hulking zealot of a Ysbryd was unlikely to listen to anything she had to say. Best to let Vole lead the way to a detour and see the Prince.

Vole lowered her voice. "I can't take her through the necropolis, and the tunnels don't link up well with the other passages until we get a little further south. Isn't there a way you'd be able to let us through?"

Khole eyed Arwen again, then flicked his eyes back to Vole. "I don't have any problem with you going forward, but I don't know your companion."

"So just accompany us," Vole countered. "We won't touch anythiing. You'll be certain that we don't."

"Can't. I have to guard this tunnel," he responded, though something that Arwen heard in his voice indicated that he was wavering.

"There's nothing behind us except for rats and some of the Necropolis herd. It won't take half a minute for us to get by."

This seemed to satisfy the Sanctified at last and he shrugged and waved them on in front of him. "Come on then, let's be quick about this."

The three made their way past several other kindred and Arwen saw what all the fuss was about. A dead body, horribly mutilated, was lying face up (or what was left of her face, rather) just off of the subway tracks up against a wall, within sight of a platform where she supposed kine gathered to ride this underground train about the city. Something bothered her when she saw the body and the scene around it however, as she overlooked two hunching individuals studying the body closely. From her knowledge of Cruac, some of the symbols around the body did seem authentic, but either it was no ritual that she was familiar with, or the symbols were all out of order, as if it were a forgery of some sort.

The drawing of the circle above the wall with the human face in it gave her a shock. The crude drawing meant nothing, but the blood it was written in was infused with a strange aura, one the glowed fresh in a way she was wholly unable to explain. As if the blood were a living thing where the face was portrayed. If she still lived, a chill would have run down her spine, for she was convinced of what that woman in the circle was supposed to be.

It was the Hag.

Arwen regarded the scene with idle curiousity. The placement of the runes and symbols only confirmed her initial suspicion. This was a pathetically transparent attempt to villify the Circle. Still, Arwen had no intent on getting involved just yet. It was far more important for her to see the Prince and get matters straightened out there. The she saw it.

Hectate. The Hag goddess. She stared out at her. Suddenly it all made the sense. The forboding omen of the crows. The decision to flee to this dark underworld of sewers and tunnels. The Sanctified goon interrupting them. She was meant to see this. The Hag had led her here.

Arwen's shuffling gait came to an immediate stop and she stared back into the face of the Hag. She began to approach the bloody visage. Walking past the two kindred hunched over the husk that was once human. She walked right up to the wall and stared at it closely. Reaching out and not quite touching the bloody image. Instead tracing the image in the air with a boney finger.

Who had done this? And what was it's meaning?

Glancing upwards Antonio watches the strange new vampire approach the arcane symbols and examine them. With a slight jerk of his head, he draws Ettore's attention to their visitor. Standing, he approaches Arwen, stopping a short, but respectful distance away before speaking. "Excuse me Ma'am, I'm afraid that I'm going to have to ask you to leave, this investigation is being handled by the Invictus." Looking at the assembled Ghouls, he gestures to them and then to Arwen, indicating that they should escort her away from the scene.

Arwen looked at Antonio like he was insane. Her incredulous gaze was entirely unpleasant and she appeared to be a bit unhinged. After staring at him for a few moments, the ancient Crone tossed her head back and laughed loudly. Her laugh was pure malevolence and contempt. "Of course you are! The Invictus are masters of the dark arts, of hidden knowledge!" She cackled again before pointing a boney finger at Antonio.

"You know not what you see, my dear. Even as it stares at you! You are blind! But don't let those with sight disturb you and your precious investigation." She turned and marched away from Antonio with a defiant stride, retaking her place at Vole's side.

"Take me to the Prince!"

Seemingly unfazed by her reaction Antonio calmly responds "'Madam I will ask you but once, please choose your words carefully, lest someone takes them as an affront to the honor of the Invictus. Officers, would you please escort our guests out?"

As the officers led the two vampires away from the scene, Antonio's impassive mask quickly falls away and he seems troubled. What exactly did the old crone mean? "Layers upon layers. There's a reason I don't get involved in politics..." he mutters, seemingly to himself.
