I do not feel good at all about Giz-Giz's recruitment skills...at this rate he will be entering the arena personally.

Giz-Giz might not be doing as poor as you might think he is.

As for finding a secretary, that might be the sort of thing that you could just put an ad out for with a crier or by simply posting on recruitment boards. A secretary had better be able to read, so you wouldn't have to worry about them not being able to figure out the ad =p. It's not exactly urgent that you find one either.

Only other real things you could do is find a recruiter to look for you, go to a private library and see if someone there has the skills and would be interested, or talk to the magister. Most people can't read and write, so finding a secretary is non-trivial.

Well that is reassuring I think Giz-Giz is channeling my social awkwardness with his completely un-optimized social skills.

I'll do that. Other than that, I'm completely lost. Should I go out and try to recruit or something, too?

The school will likely need to host gladiators and provide them a place to stay, so you might want to consider looking for a custodian, a chef, food supplies, etc. as well.

Waiting on a decision from Merc about how he wants to go about finding a secretary. Will update Giz-Giz tomorrow, I've had a super busy holiday.

No worries.

Would you allow a quick casting of extended friendly face (+5 gather information/+5 diplomacy) and a Gather Info check to pick up some info on this particular warmage (graduation rank, reputation, favorite color. etc)?

Yes, Friendly Face is now active for 80 minutes.
Gather information check:
18

Ouch,

Giz-Giz knows he used to be well respected in town, but he has lost a fair amount of that respect for his unwillingness to join the military after he completed his education.

It does however occur to me that I don't see a list of your currently prepared spells.

Been using Spells on the fly really since Giz-Giz didn't really know what to expect he left his slots open. There is a provision for Wizards doing this . Prepping a spell on the fly should in my eyes be the 15 min mark due to his age and time to practice preparing spells but I will submit to what ever time allotment you would dictate.

15 minutes is fine for a single spell

Updated for Giz-Giz, sorry that took so long. Still waiting on an actual plan of action from Merc before I update his portion.

Sorry. I am scheduled to teach two sections of research writing (which I haven't taught before), and spent the last month+ building a course. I found out yesterday that they stole one of my sections to give to a full-timer, and then gave me another section that is not in a computer classroom, which means that everything I've done for the last month is practically worthless, and I'm scrambling now to get a completely reworked class ready to start on Wednesday.

I'm afraid for the time being I'm still going to be incognito. Again, my apologies. I should know by now that colleges are going to fuck over adjuncts, but I clearly did not expect to have to teach a research course in a place where research is physically impossible to do.

I do not like this and think you should quit your job to devote all of your time to playing PbP D&D XD.

SO what do we do?

Things are starting to slack off a little at work now that the semester is in swing. Missed classes from snow and ice had a serious hampering effect in the first three weeks (classes were cancelled several times, which puts a major kink into a class that only meets once a week), and there's probably more on the way, but now that I've got everything set, it's moving pretty smoothly.

Is this game still a go, or did my temporary withdrawal put it on ice?

My apologies for the lack up updates, I just found out my wife is pregnant, so I've been busy these past few days.
