Core Events & Time Line

[OOC: Players will not post in this thread at all. This thread will be edited every time an important event happens around the world that is well known, and also used as a time tracking device: everytime an IC week (or days, if important enough) has passed, this post will be updated to reflect that, so use it to plan ahead when needed.

For those not familiar with faerunian calendar, DR is Dragon Reckoning, name of the calendar of Harptos, the official time keeping record. There is a name of each year written by a mad Wizard eons ago that run through all the way to DR 1380, and apparently the name always reflect on some important events in the world during that year, and some view them as prophecies. There are twelve months with thirty day each, and each week is ten days long. There are five annual holidays: Midwinter, Greengrass, Midsummer, Highharverstide, and The Feast of the Moon. These holidays do not belong to any month. In addition, every 4 years there is a "leap day" called Shieldmeet.]

Thirdday, Secondweek Alturiak DR 1377, Year of the Haunting. (1377/02/13, Rivalry Campaign starting point)

The location of Karsus of Netheril's ancient facility has been discovered in Cormyr, within the Stormhorns mountains, however it's buried so deep in the clash of earth and emits such strong protection of ancient magic, not even the mightiest mages can break through. It is rumored that a copy of his final spell, Karsus's Avatar, which caused the downfall of Netheril and has the power to rival even the gods, is contained within his study.

This fact has actually been well known for over a month, however the interest has not been really developed until recently: the reasoning is simple, ever since the downfall of Netheril, the goddess of Magic has forbidden all spell development and casting above the tenth order, and Karsus' Avatar is so potent that it is of the twelfth order. However, another recent discovery spurred on this rush of powerful individuals, spellcasters or not, to Karsus' secret study: the discovery of possible locations of Mythal within Myth Drannor of Cormanthor. Mythals are artifacts forged by Nethrian mages and priests that supply nearly endless powers to power their spells or item craftings, and in theory even a farmer can make use of one to cast the most powerful spells or create even an artifact of lost secrets.

Fourday to Fifthday, Secondweek Alturiak DR 1377, Year of the Haunting. (1377/02/14 - 1377/02/15)

Almost all of the powerful organizations has send agents of varies kinds to investigate the matter at hand - namly, the discovery of Karsus' study and also the existence of Mythal. You can only safely assume that lesser or more secretive organizations are also moving.

The Lord's Alliance, together with The Society of the Archmage, and the clergy of Mystra, commanded to their members that they may not persue the search for these two items, and must actively prevent any entity from obtaining them.

Aglarond, led by the Simbul the Witch Queen, one of the Chosen of Mystra, has officially declares that they would side with the Lord's Alliance, and prevent anyone to acquire the Mythal and Karsus' spell. The Red Wizards of Thay, who has been opposing Aglarond for as long as anyone can remember, surprisingly declares neutrality of uninterest.

The Zhentarim, under the leadership of Fzoul Chambyrll, Chosen of Bane, declares the Mythal to be their property should it ever be found, violaters shall be dealt with whatever means necessary. Currently, the Zhents, directly or indirectly, battles fiercely against the force of Dalelands, particularly in the Cormanthor area. It is also rumored that they have the Cult of the Dragon under their service, willingly or unwillingly, at this point.

Rumor has it that the leader of the Orcs of the North has suddenly disappeared; whether this is related to the current chain of events is unknown at this point.

Sixthday, Secondweek to Eighthday, Secondweek Alturiak DR 1377, Year of the Haunting. (1377/02/16 - 1377/02/18)

Most Faerunian religions of good nature, or those with close relationships to these religions, now openly announce their stand that they will oppose whoever tries to obtain these objects of power. Forces of clergies or mercenary troops were positions around Cormyr and Dalelands: Mystraian and Azuthian to the west, Lathandarian to the south, Selunian to the east, and Shaundakulist and Chauntian to the north.

At the east side, it's the most fierce battle ground in recent years. Zhentarim, leading the Banites and Cultists of the Dragon, joined by Besheebian, battles the Daleland resistence forces. Several sightins of Drows are reported around Underdark entrances around Daleland, obviously waiting for the right moment to strike both side. At the south in Sembia, the Cyrists recruited the Arcane Brotherhood of Luskan and has infiltrated several important cities with their tricks of trade of illusionary magic. Currently the warfare is not severe, but the hidden battles are much more dangerous than the obvious ones. AT the north and the west, not much has been going on, since it was the forces of the Lord's Alliances, and the forces are moving towards the east to aid the ones in need. However some are still left guarding most routes to the desert, particularly for the City of Shade.

Following the Thayan example, or maybe acting in their own interest, or maybe knowing they have no chance of securing the prize of this competetion of power, most lesser religions, nations, and organizations declares neutrality of noninvolvement regarding this current turn of events.

Rumors regarding the Orc of the North has spread; the spies of the Lord's Alliance in Silverymoon has confirmed the horde has lost its leader and his right-hand man, although the reasons are still unknown. Other than that, a military leader, or a powerful Wizard, of some sort with base of operation located near Silverymoon is currently working closely with the Lathandarians.

Ninthday, Secondweek to Firstday, Thirdweek Alturiak DR 1377, Year of the Haunting. (1377/02/19 - 1377/02/21)

It would appear that the situation is much more stable now. Nearly all religions, regardless of their believes or general alignments, have declared that it would be their deities' will and best interest to have Karsus' Avatar and Mythal remain untouched; likewise most political powers around Faerun made the same statement.

Arcane Brotherhood has also retreated as two of four the Overwizard of Arcane Brotherhood has been magically entombed deep into the Earth by three unknown spellcasters. Beshebian has departed from the war of eastern Dalelands, leaving Banite's service. Zhentarim, suffering major loss from the ally forces and the depature of supporting lesser religions, likewise returned to moonsea for the time.

Around the Western Heart Lands, the war has ceased temporary. Zhentarim still sends many small teams of agent composed of adventurers or mercenaries, likewise the Temple of Cyric. There is an increase of Drow sighting in the Dalelands, apparently they will be making their moves soon.

Firstday, Thirdweek Alturiak to Secondday, Firstweek Ches, DR 1377, Year of the Haunting. (1377/02/21 - 1377/03/02)

The rush for the ancient spells and the artifact has stopped. Not because of the lack of interest, but rather because of the obstacles. The greatest alliance in faerun history, the alliance of all the major religions and political powers that blocks access to these protent objects, has been very successful. Faerunians now refer to it as the Alliance of Preservation, despite the fact it never announced its official name, if any.

Recently, a large group of people, led by the Elven Bladesinger of the Silver March, moves all the way across the High Forest in their travel towards the east against the Zhentarims. Most approve of their spirits, although few approve of their abilities.

Also in the area, two Orcs were spotted in Loudwater. Orcs are not a rare sight in the city, but some drunken Half-Orcs in taverns keep on blabbering about these are Orcs of high places to the north, and one of the drunks swear that he has seen these two before, during a tribal war between the Orcs of the North and the Orcs of the High Forest.

Ringreemeralxoth, a vicious green dragon famous in the area of Snakewood, has been destroying the forest furiously for the past few days. Divinations show that he, along with all the other creatures in the forest, has been trapped in due to Fey Crossroads that the priests of Eldath activated.

Thirdday, Firstweek Ches to Fourthday, Secondweek Ches, DR 1377, Year of the Haunting. (1377/03/03 - 1377/03/14)

The roads were again flooded, but not towards Cormyr and the Dalelands, but away from them. The Alliance was extremely successful in turning away most adventurers or agents that seek the artifact and the spell. Some conflicts still occur in the Dalelands between the force of the Alliance and the Zhentarims, as well as roguish attacks to both side from Drows of the Underdark, but it is significantly less than a month ago.

Divinations employed by the spellcasters reveal an even more shocking news regrading the artifacts in their attempt of trying to seek knowledge in gaining the Mythal in Myth Drannor: Their Divinations inform them of different knowledge regarding the Mythal, such as the shortest distance, least resistance of force, or the true location. After comparing results, the conclusion is simple: There are multiple Mythals still active in Faerun, although much weaker than the one presently active in Myth Drannor. Locations are of course kept secretive to those who can perform the Arts, but sightings of an unusual amount of astral travellers towards the Calimshan and the Mulhorand area are apparent. The Thayan, at the same time, announced their plan to explore the land to the east, pass the Endless Wastes.

The army of the Elven Lord of the Silver March has approached southeast side of the Anauroch desert, further driving the treasure hunters away from the general Sword Coast and Amn area. The travellers back to Amn learn that they now have to update their maps: a portion of the northeastern Snakewood has been completely destroyed, and most believe it's by the green dragon who dwells within, although the reasons are currently unknown. As a result, the Lycantropes and the Beholderkins within the wood now either moves to another part or wanders out of the Snakewood, causing a severe local disrubance.

Fifthday, Secondweek Ches to Firstday, Thirdweek Ches, DR 1377, Year of the Haunting. (1377/03/15 - 1377/03/21)

THe battle in the Dales contiuned, this time much slower, but with no signs of stopping at all. The Zhents, the Alliances, and the Drows battle each other in a triangle of war. Trickeries, treaties, and betrayals draws even more Cyricists from the south.

Unexpected movements, or expected movements, claimed by a few, of the Shades were discovered. Three armies of elite Shade soldiers registered on several orbs, mirrors, water pools, as well as the eyes of the Faerunians around the Dales. One assulted Cormyr's Stormhorn, the other Myth Drannor, the last the army of the Elven Lord of the Silver March, one who is to rondevouz with the Morninglord's defenders. The Elven Lord's troops, after sustaining heavy damage, miraculously defeated their foe with the aids of an unknown dragon.

Perhaps Tempus planned it, another great battle took place in the High Forest, where the Orcs of the North slayed and recruited the Orcs of the High Forest. The normally quiet forest is even quieter now, and the smell of blood fills the air. The Elves in the forest does not seem to be particularly interested or alarmed by this fact, however, as they go about normally in their daily lives.

The Thayan's departure for the great east has commenced. To most people's surprise, seven out of eight Zulkirs embarked on this journy, all save Szass Tam. It's common understanding around the region, that obviously they are not working together, but rather they want to make sure they won't be left out of whatever great power or wealth they might discover.

Firstday, Thirdweek Ches to Firstday, Firstweek Tarsakh, DR 1377, Year of the Haunting. (1377/03/15 - 1377/03/21)

A great battle took place in the Farsea Marshes, drawing the attention away from the Dalesland. The forces involved are powerful and many, to everyone's surprise. The primary forces were the Shades and the Shaundakul's Clerics, persumably over the possession of the Study in Stormhorn which contains the ancient spell in question. Joining the Shades were the Orc horde recently formed by the Orc of the North and the Orc of the High Forest, lead by the powerful Orgg warchief. Opposing them an Elven Lord of the Silver March and the Clergy of Lanthander, under the sponsership of Lady Alusteril of Silverymoon, fought along side of the Wind Walker's followers. Among them, an extremely skillful and strange halfling, as well as a Copper Dragon, further encouraged wild rumors.

It was a battle with no winners. Slain corpses threaten to fill the Farsea Marshes, and both sides retreated only at the last minute to preserve their very last few men. The dragon sunk right into the marshes and was never found again. The force of the Elven Lord's army was completely destroyed, as are the Orcish Horde; still there are rumors that the Warchief survived, but none was able to confirm such claim.

The war in the dales quiet down slightly as the Alliance and Zhenterim forces regroup and recover their strengths. To the east, however, things appear to heat up. The Red Wizard's expedition run into some resistences from their age old enemy Alagrond's forces, but they were merely small skirmishes. It was speculated that the Witch Queen simply needed to learn the Thayan's motives in the Wastes.

Firstday, Firstweek to Firstday, Thirdweek Tarsakh, DR 1377, Year of the Haunting. (1377/04/01 - 1377/04/21)

It was later found out that the Shades did not give up after all. Using their dark sorcery, possibly from their ancient netherese spells, they have captured a section of the Stormhorn and transported it to the Plane of the Shadows, where they hope to search for the Study without disruption. What they did not take into account of, is the fact another army from Silver March, led by Lashiman, a man with Celestial blood, was able to reach the Study prior to the transfer. Aided by the Sage, they are able to locate the Spell prior to the Shade's discovery. The Sage further imploded the captured Study, thwarting further attempts from the Shade to research further.

Via some sort of transportation magic, the army was later seen in Shadowdale, before they immediately disappear again with a high priest of Mystra, Cazio. The two was seen in Waterdeep briefly. After a few days, battles in the Wastes were commenced as the Thayans return to Thaymount. Rumor has it that together with the Alagrond army, they were able to capture a Zulkir prior to defeating the Red Wizards. Thayans denies the claim, naturally, as said Zulkir appears to address the nation of Thay after a couple of days.
