Manweh'mato - Description

Full name : Manweh'mato Light Runner
Age: 18
Height: 3 ' 2"
Weight: 36 lb
Hair: Dirty Blond
Eyes: Brown
Skin: White

Upon just a casual look, Manweh'mato looks like the average Deepling hunter. Worn down traveling gear and pretty plain looking cloak is what anyone would notice at a first look. He wears like most Deepling, a few "jewels" made from his kills during the hunt. Manweh'mato has a few bracelets and always at least one necklace made of bones, teeths and skins of animals he has killed. Offering one of these to someone is a great reward and shows respect from Manweh'mato. A small ceremony to Obah-Dai usually accompagnies this gift.

Someone paying a little more attention would notice the different color of skin and hair under the usual dirty skin of someone who lives most of his time in the wilderness. Manweh'mato never looks completely clean but his never really dirty as well, it is kind of voluntary use of dirt to be a better hunter. The equipement carried by Manweh'mato also betrays him a bit from the more traditionnal roots of the deepling hunter. Of course, he has a bow. Every respectable hunter has a bow. The small steel cap on his head does a good job of hiding his medium lenght dirty blond hair and you would only notice it if the hood from his cloak was down and it usually isn't. The weapon hanging from his belt, (a flail) and the well hidden chain mail under is clothes truly give Manweh'mato a more modern warrior look than most of his race. Attached to his left forearm, a small steel buckler with interesting writing on it's perimeter can usually be seen on his person as well.

If you are lucky enough to see Manweh'mato without his cloak, you will discover a sweet looking, babyfaced halfling but with some spark and a touch of defiance in his eyes. On the left side of his lower neck, a tatoo is present amongst some evident scar tissue. The scar looks like the injury should have been fatal, a good portion of the neck looks like it was bitten off or ripped off. Manweh'mato, like his brother Skasa, looks at home in the wilderness.

Manweh'mato - Background

Posted: Sun Jun 19, 2005 10:49 Post subject: background Manweh'mato 's birth was a bitter sweet one for his family because his difficult birth caused his mother's death. She was leaving behind two sons and a husband. The older brother Skasa was so overwhelmed by the event that he eventually left the village for a long time. He would during the infancy of Manweh'mato, retreat into the wilderness more and more.

For the first küçüsenes of his life, Father was the only one who raised Manweh'mato and he taught him how to be a true hunter. Manweh'mato fitted right in into the traditional hunter/gatherer role of the male deepling. One might say it all came very natural to him. His light skin and light hair gave him a bit of trouble at first because he was being spotted by his preys all the time, or that is what he thought. It was more the fact that he would run towards his prey as soon as he got close that made them run away from him. Fortunately, experience soon kicked in and he eventually was able to hunt small animals on his own with a decent success rate. As his patience grew, his sucess grew also. He learned form his father how be be very very still and quiet and act with surprising rapidity when a chance for a kill would present itself. Father was very proud of what Manweh'mato had becomed but the young child felt his father was missing something ....

A few years passed and the void in Father, Manweh'mato could no longer ignore. For a short period in his life, he and Father lived by themselves in the wild. It is during this part of his life that Manweh'mato learned more about his mother, about his brother and also a lot more about his ancestry. He was, one of the few, one of the Light Runners that were born into the wild and adopted by deeplings as their own. Manweh'mato had a difficult tiem understanding the concept of slavery because for him the order of things came from Obad-Hai and the natural order of nature. Shortly after they both returned to live in the village, on the fifth anniversary of Mother's death, Skasa entered full force in Manweh'mato 's life. The reunion was a special one for both young boys. The would confide in each other and share with uncommon maturity their experiences. Skasa formally began his training arounf that time but Manweh'mato felt his calling was not the one of his brother. Skasa has a gift, Manweh'mato could feel it but knew his own calling was elsewhere.

Now that his family was whole, a lot of questions were left unanswered even with the deep conversations with Father and Skasa. Manweh'mato had to leave his clan, he couldn't find the answers here. He knew it deep in his bones. At the tender age of 8, Manweh'mato asked permission to Father to go live on his own. Father at first said no because he thought that he was too young but Manweh'mato 's insistance and demonstration of his skills finally convinced Father to let him go. The very next morning, Manweh'mato was gone.

The next 2 years of his life where spent in the wild. Life was hard on his own. Manweh'mato got sick a few times but always pulled through during the difficult times. He felt he was getting closer the what he wanted but still couldn't grasp it after two years of searching. His wanderings eventually brought him pretty close to human lands. One night, sick and exhausted, Manweh'mato was surprised by an enormous black wolf. He seemed to have fire in his eyes and attacked the unprepared Manweh'mato who did his best to defend himself with his stone tipped wodden spear and arrows. He managed to injure the wolf but when his spear broke, Manweh'mato 's spirit broke as well. How was he supposed to fight such a beast with only a small stone knife....he closed his eyes and surrendered his life to Obad-Hai.....

He woke up, hurting all over, running a fever and so weak he felt his body was made of stone. A booming voice speaking strange words was next to him. A young man, twice his size was now speaking softly to him while checking his neck. Very afraid but unable to stop the human, Manweh'mato had no choice but to let the human touch him. His memories from those few days are very spotty and blurry. The young human, his wife and young son took care of Manweh'mato and never asked for anything in return. A few months later, after a winter Manweh'mato never would have survived on his own, the young man finally explained what had happened that day. Manweh'mato now understood enough of the language to grasp the details of the story. He and his son where out hunting a big wolf that had been causing trouble in the area for a while now. They arrived on the scene of the ungoing fight after tracking the wolf for a few hours. They saw Manwh'mato get bitten severly in the neck and that is when thinking a child's life was at stake that Maurice drew his rifle and shot the wolf down. Manweh'mato was already unconscious at that point and losing a lot of blood. Ripping his own shirt, Maurice applied bandages as well as he could to try and stop the bledding. The rest was now history. His speedy recovery had amazed the humans and Phillipe now had a friend to play with and learn to hunt with as well.

Two things had changed in the young halfling after that near death episode. He no longer feared the unknown and knew that better gear was needed for him to survive alone in the wilderness. Humans were not all bad and he could count a few as his friends now. The last six months of his two years absence was spent travelling far and wide and even venturing in some small human town now and then for brief periods of time. He met some interesting people in his travels and managed to pick up a bit of their languages as well.

When he came back to his village, Manweh'mato was a changed halfling, he still loved the simple and natural life of his clan but his feet and legs itched for something more.....but Father was ill and none of the two brothers wandered far during his illness. With Father passing recently, his last wish had to be fullfilled by the two brothers.
