Basically, I'm looking at the North as OURS to do with as we want. All of the books, accessories, supplements, etc. can be useful or can be disregarded. I like to use the books and such as good starter points for my ideas. Forgotten Realms maps are very cool and I use them - as I do many of the towns, cities, and such. What I like to change are the people and politics and magic stuff.
JoK's background surrounding Conyberry and your background with Mirko are good points. That's what I want - take what has been published and tailor it to fit the game we want.
I think I've already said that some of the major movers and shakers of the Realms (like Elminster, Alustriel, Khelben Blackstaff, etc) are not around in my version. Or maybe they are, but they are off doing planar stuff and cannot interfere with what is going on in the Realms...it's just beneath them.
I realize I'm asking you fellers to maybe step outside of the normal "player in a game" role and put in your 2 cents on this game. And as the DM, I can screw around with your ideas or not. And I don't want to put your in a position where you think you HAVE to help out - not at all! But...if you want to add some flavor and color here and there...that'd be cool.

Don't know if I've helped or muddied the water further - it's hard to put into words what I'm envisioning for this game. Starting with an established system like Forgotten Realms comes with pros and cons and one of the major cons is tampering with "the canon" (as Bel puts it).
There are a few areas I've already developed or tampered with (per my other games): Port Llast, Lathtarl's Lantern, Noanar's Hold, Helm's Hold, Neverwinter, Grandfather Tree, and I've dabbled in some other towns like Triboar, Yartar, Waterdeep (very minor), and Luskan.
I love developing little towns - working out a map, its townsfolk, rumors, and such. Don't do much with the big cities, with the exception being Neverwinter........which you may end up visiting in the future.

I will say that the game's current direction and location are all new to me. So, everything I'm doing (including incorporating your backgrounds and such, feeding off your ideas) is off the cuff and going toward establishing these sections of the Realms as our own. If you want to help, that's great. If not, that's cool too.
All I ask is if I do something that is totally out of whack, just call me on it. But be nice....I bruise like a grape.

Having said all of that (whew!), I'm gonna be cleaning up this game some in the next couple of weeks. Moving threads around, condensing posts, etc. May start a new thread where all of our "brainstorming ideas" can have a home so we won't have to be scrolling back through OOC pages to find stuff.

Working on the next post today - oooohhh it's about to get nasty!

I know very little about this part of the Realms and if you wanna tailor it as you see fit....do it man! Looking forward to it.

I would love to tell more about the caravans of the hin. I will be sure to think about it for a little this weekend. Already I have started to work in how important names are, next you will hear why and how they became that way.

On another note, I feel like an idiot. Back during the manticore fight didn't someone get poisoned? I was going through my character sheet to be sure I wasn't holding onto something instead of using it and I realized I think that is when I was intended to use the neut poison scrolls of which I have 2. What a maroon.

Also, I finally decided on Babelson's feats. Never realized I didn't put the level one feat in there until he became level 3. I chose self-sufficient and track for story purposes. They fit his background.

Caravans of Hin? Traveling Halfling tinkers? Gypsy Halflings?
I LOVE IT!

Work it up man! This is EXACTLY what I'm talking about - perhaps in OUR version of the Realms, Halflings are NOT the Tolkienesque hobbits - maybe they are travelers - sellers of potions, minstrels, tinkers, gypsies!
Man, you got me all juiced up. Talk to me.

Excuse for slacking...

Afternoon fellers - it's been a crazy Wednesday - not a lot done on the post except for the map, which I have attached. The map reveals the current location of everyone. If you want to switch your characters around let me know. Will hopefully work on the post late tonight...if not, then early morning.

When I get back from breakfast, I promise. Fridays are my youth group meetings, so I usually don't have anything on those days, all my thoughts are in preparation. Though I skimmed the meat comment.

The trident in Almego's hand begins to glow with a silver sheen before the sharks and sea devils even come within sight, but being underwater he cannot even shout an alarm.
DOH! I have thought about that all week and promised myself not to forget about the trident and what did I do? Yep, I forgot about it! My bad, JoK. Hey, I'll make it up to you and not let you get eaten...how's that?

Glad to hear from you fellers - dates and youth groups and such are more important than a post. Will post MY next actions on Sunday.

Have a good weekend - go HOKIES!

Jok,
thanks for backing up Dreys. Pretty cool post. By looking at the map, looked as though Dreys was too far away from the boat to make it without getting eaten from behind............that's why I pushed him headlong into the shark..........if he's going down, he's going down fightin.

Don't worry bout the trident thing coffee. I couldn't have really done much to prepare anyway in 1 or 2 rounds. It's not like I have any 'buff' spells anyhow. I meant to cast message on all of us before we went in, but that's my fault. I may need those slots for combat anyways. I don't see us getting too separated anyhow.

No problem, of course I'll back you up. Mirko can't be hurt, so I better help those that can. Thanks for liking my post. My writing has been getting alot better every since I started playing these quick post scenarios. I've been learning from a master (points at coffee.) We probably should take care of these enemies first before going into the boat to salvage. Captain Squint already went in anyway. He'll start hauling stuff out while we cover him from out here. Hopefully there's no sea devils waiting for him inside though, at least not enough that he can't handle the situation.

Forgot about getting mutiple rounds in at once. I added some more and almost cast a second spell forgetting about the first.

As soon as the shark bears down on him Babelson places his large hand flat against the rock and can hear the voices of the very moss and seaweed growing upon it. "Captura, snare, set!" Three more bubbles, and another spell controlling the natural world around him springs to life.

OOC: cast entangle directly in the shark's path on his way to me.

Mirko took off his armor, i'd be hard to swim with it, also he eft his great sword and is fighting with his big knoves as it'll be hard to swing a big weapon under water,
