Not like the rest of D&D, gritty and realistic as it is.

Warning Order.

Situation:
With all relevant back-story in place, and supplementary information in progress, I'm now waiting out on completion of characters so that I can get the game started.

Probable Mission:
Our mission is to get the introductory spiel out of the way with as quickly and efficiently as possible, so that we can get to the fighting and looting speedily, but without compromising our comprehension of essential plot details.

Own Main Effort:
It is imperative for the successful completion of the mission that all back-stories, ability stats and skills are complete before any combat commences. Therefore, our Main Effort is to complete character stats and sheets before H-Hr (see Timings)

Timings:
The game will start on Wednesday 28th May (H-Hr). There will be no move before 08.00 hrs.
Prospectively, mission should be completed before 22.00 hrs, Sunday 1st June.

O-Gp:
Located in the OOC thread, essential information will be given out on, or slightly before H-Hr (Weds 28th)

Combat Service Support:
As per SOPs, although details of equipment are not expected to become relevant until well after mission completion (which is itself a prerequisite for any combat which may require equipment).

Acknowledgments:
All ranks to acknowledge reciept of Warning Order and return to Tp. Sgt.

Yeah, I know. I should get out more.

Erm... Ok, so I think Balar is essentially complete. I just need to figure out how he got together with the group. Any suggestions besides blackmail since I can't see how that could possibly work.

Anything that could put him in contact with the city watch- there's nothing wrong with him being a hired sword or something like that.

I was going to assume that the four of you had spent a night on the piss prior to the briefing from the Watch Commander with which I'll be setting the scene.
That should put you on first name terms, and remove most of the early game awkwardness that always results from parties being thrown together in a contrived way.

Hired sword would work. He needs money and he needs allies so he can return to him home and save it. Of course that means that he needs to leave or at least send help within a year at most.

It could even make a nice juicy side-quest. I'll bear it in mind.

I will usually be able to update frequently during the evening, less during the afternoon (depends If I'm working or not). Saturday and Sunday shouldn't be a problem.

Besides burning gold and deciding on which feat to choose from, I'm essentially done with my character. In time, I may or may not expend my personal history to be able to add a little more flavor and juice towards my character.

As for my reason for grouping, the simple fact that a strange magical book of ultimate destruction should be enough to convince me.

Sorry this is so sudden, but certain memorial day events have killed most of my free time for the next month or so.

I'll check back then, maybe you'll have room =/

Bollocks.

See if you can squeeze in a post now and then just to keep current- you don't even have to make one a week to be honest. In the mean time, I'll hie me to the character acquisition thread and beg for someone stupid enough to join us. You never know your luck...

Since all the other games I was a player in just died, I might have time for this after all. When were you planning to start, Alcotroll? I could be freakishly slow to write my background (have had problems writing of late), and I don't want to hold you up. I'd probably play something stupid like a bard anyways.
If we can just get LeadPal off the bard concept....

Lead_Pal? I would like to meet this Lead_Pal.

Actually, not bard at all. I had a flash of inspiration, and would like to play Darriel Fearinsbane, a falconer in service to the military (or whoever would plausibly employ a falconer and send him on a hunt for the book of doom). Halfling or human, haven't decided. A druid, philosophical as to man's role in nature and the balance between civilization and wilderness. In other words, he ain't no tree hugger. If that's acceptable, I'll get it up within the week.

Balar is going to find all these halflings mighty amusing. "Ah, hello little fellow. Where is your mother?"

Then who will protect you from being carried off by a hungry badger? I think you underestimate the advantages of being cute. For one thing, Balar at least will subconsciously be more protective of you.

It's not a horny badger, it's a hungry badger. There's a difference.

Hungry for stuff to put in his stomach.

Though that reminds me of another discussion I had about whether an extremely beautiful NPC's appearance would affect a character's willingness slaughter them in combat.

Nick, are you sure about how you arranged your abilities? You have an incredibly low intelligence compared to your strength, especially for a rogue.

This is what I would have gotten too

Strength: 11
Dexterity: 15 (17)
Constitution:15 (13)
Intelligence: 17
Wisdom: 11
Charisma: 13

Quite frankly, you two strongest stats should be Dexterity and Intelligence. Having a 17 in Constitution isn't that bad, if you consider that if we ever raise level, you'll be able to increase your Dexterity to 18, to get that nifty +4 modifier. And the bonus, is that you get more skill points in the long run... 2 more skill points every level, and 8 more at level 1...
