I have yet to change a language mid-sentence...
Oh, and I'd rather be a vagabond if that's alright. Vagabonds might know all kinds of languages though. They might even change them mid-sentence. Oh noez! ![]() |

In J's games folks typically just post in the language they are speaking in and do any required translation OOC.

I quite like the idea of typing general gibberish and having a bottom of post translation too. I think I did that once in a game I was DMing actually (as only one player spoke the language, so I didn't let anybody know what was actually being said).

Yeah, for orcish Paco just makes up some gibberish and throws a translation in the ooc thread if it seems necessary. Erik, on the other hand, has been using German for the language of Cyre and lets you translate on your own if you so desire. It works out quite well - flavor and function!

Wait, German isn't just a made up language? That sure wasn't how myself and itches were treating it in LoL.

I once insisted that the players use different colours for langauges, but I'll never do that again. Most people don't bother anyways, or they get it wrong. Plus, in a game with many languages, you start running out of easy-to read and easy to distinguish colours. So you start wondering if the pale amber text means the character is speaking Orc or Giant, or having to highlight text that blends right into the background.
I enjoy typing and reading brief sentences of gibberish (or semi-gibberish) for effect, but I'd rather not wade through whole paragraphs of the stuff, and I think it defeats the purpose to provide a translation at the bottom. If it should be translated, why not do so freely in the narration? But, whatever. I offer the list for The Alcotroll's benefit.

I don't see it as being like subtitles--more like a translation of the script after you've already seen it. At least, for lengthy pieces. Brief sentences do work, I feel.

No, I kept it to myself. I don't understand computers well enough to clearly explain what was going on anyways, so I was just relived that it seemed to solve itself.
Maybe it had something to do with the cheese I was grating with my modem.

Ah okay. Best let us know if it happens again. Could be an early sign of the apocalypse(tm).

Thief! Your second image doesn't work and your third looks rather like a scene from Aladdin.

Dount it. Got it off some digital art website.
Edit: The second image does work, but it's fucking mahoosive. Go get a brew and it'll probably have loaded by the time you come back.

If you rehost them on a photobucket account then it'll be for the best as otherwise they will likely disappear at some point in the future when you want to gaze upon them in wonder and awe.
I'm thinking the third image might be what I'm picturing Eje to look like in DK too actually. All those little domey bits and sand.
