by the way, what are people's conventions for expression thoughts and speech...i usually do this:

This is me thinking.

This is me making actions.

"This is me talking out loud."

Is that how everyone does it? I find it is usually best when the group decides on one format to use to avoid confusion.

perfect.

i mean, "perfect".

i wonder if he knows how much of a noob he's dealing with?

<ooc: and this is how the alter-egos communicate, specifically to provide a proposed roll for an action described above. i will now roll my Wits (3) + Editing (3) to "perfect" this post>

I realize that I haven't submitted an equipment list to you. Obviously I have the normal "apartment" stuff that I'm not going to list. I will only list weapons and things that he usually keeps on his person. I will post it in my sub-forum.

Umm...I guess I'll take some sort of motorcycle. I don't have the book with me. Perhaps you can tell me a suitable gun and a suitable motorcycle?

This is going to be wonderful fun....I can tell already. Even if we don't get all four players...it will be interesting to see how these two interact.

color or colour?

hmm... favorite color... I would say that that all depends on the time and the day... red or green (but never together) coupled with black...

newbie alert

I've never played in a play-by-post game, so I'll probably need some guidance now and then. To start, I have a question or two...

1. Who rolls? I assume the ST rolls for us and tells us what happens, but I thought I'd make sure (so if I needed to, I could go dig up all my d10's)

2. When taking an action, do we just post it in the thread we're currently involved in?

Thanks for your patience... I'm looking forward to playing, I think this is going to be a blast.

The ST does the rolling, and lets us know.

There will be an IC thread, once the story begins in earnest, and most of the ic action will take place there. More than one thread might be added for it if we are split up, but for the most part, we'll have one place to post actions.

As far as combat goes, I'm not sure how Alf wants to run it. I guess the usual way is that he'll let us know initiative order, and we post when our turn is up.

i've never DM'ed a PBP, so we'll muddle through this together. the way i've seen it done, and the way i'd like to do it, goes something like this.

1. i'll handle rolling the dice. your responsibility will be coming up with actions and dialogue for your character. don't be afraid to assume that some of the more mundane actions can be glossed over. if you post something, and i feel you should have to make a roll, i'll make it. if i need to edit your post for any reason, i will.

2. if you want to perform an action, describe the action in the context of the story we're telling. then, at the bottom of the post, use the <ooc: blah blah blah> to provide a means to the end you describe.

example,

Jim recoils from the vampire's horrific appearance, but his resolve to protect the mother and child quickly brings him to his senses. He levels his shotgun, aims for center-mass, says a quick blessing, and squeezes the trigger.

<ooc: spent a willpower to overcome Presence; Dex (3) + Firearms (5, spec=shotgun)>

simultaneous posting, there, Path.

you're dead-on concerning initiative. i'll roll for everyone and we'll take turns. but i want you guys to control the descriptions of what you're doing. i'll handle the outcomes, but i want your creativity there first.

one thing that comes to mind is the whole Dodge thing. i don't really want to slow combat down by waiting to see if you want to spend an action or part of your die pool to dodge an attack coming at you. maybe everyone could make it known if they want to dodge beforehand. hmmm.... any thoughts?

Well, I'll let you know if I intend to split my dice pool against an obvious threat...but if something big and/or unexpected comes along, I'd appreciate a heads up, to give me the option.

How are you going to handle split dice pools? I think 2nd Ed and Revised have two different ways... if I remember correctly (and I might not, it's been a looong time since I played ST System) it worked like this:

2nd Ed: Determine how many actions you are going to take. Divide each dice pool by that number. So if you're taking two actions, a Dodge and shot with your pistol, you take the Dodge at 1/2 (Dex+Dodge) pool, and the shot at 1/2 (Dex+Firearms) pool.

Revised: Determine how many actions you are going to take. You subtract that number from the first action, that number +1 for the second, and so on... So if you're taking a Dodge and shot, your Dodge is at (Dex+Dodge)-2, and the shot will be at (Dex+Firearms)-3. I like this one a little better.

Either way, it seems like we'd need to determine how many actions we're taking before we act.

i like the second option better, myself.

and just to clarify, the number you're subtracting is the number of dice from your pool.

and whichever action comes first chronologically gets the lesser penalty.

example,

i have dex + firearms pool of 8
i have dex + dodge pool of 6

firing, then dodging, i roll 6 dice to hit and 3 to dodge.

dodging, then firing, i roll 4 to dodge and 5 to hit.

for the record, extra actions gained by Time, Celerity, or Rage cannot be split. that just gets crazy.

comments?

Sounds good to me.

I like CrookedPath's idea: under normal circumstances, we'll let you know if we plan to take multiple actions at the beginning of our turn... but if something unexpected happens, and we haven't used our whole dice pool yet (like a ghoul jumps out at me while I'm waiting to attack his vampire), then maybe we get a chance to decide to split then...

I concur with the consensus about the dodging and other split actions.

If I've read correctly, Mages are indeed immune to the Delerium, from Changers and Wraiths alike. The same is true for Changelings, even though they are basically insane humans.

Mages are human, and even though they are different, they suffer the same fears as all other humans. They are better equipped to deal with the Delerium, having a naturally higher Willpower than most humans. Also, because of their Awakened state and adaptability, the more exposure a Mage has to the Crinos form, the weaker its pull on his/her psyche will be.

Now that Solomon has confronted and defeated his inborn fear of the Crinos (by spending a Willpower point), he will, ever after, be able to roll his Willpower to avoid the effects of the Delerium. The more exposure he has to Crinos Garou, the lower the target will become, until, eventually, the Willpower roll is deemed unnecessary.

I'm sorry. When the game started, I got so excited that I ran through the book two or three times. I was just going off of it, and the old Werewolf games I used to play...of course, that's what house rules are for. My bad.
