I agree with the idea of questioning the goblin. Fugen, however, is incapable of doing so. The best results, however may come from a combination of skills. A sort of good cop/bad cop routine. Flarrgj can use his Intimidate skill while Linus uses his Diplomacy skill. One would be an aid another action (DC 10 to provide +2 to another's check) for the other. I don't know which should be the lead and which should be the helper, but I think it'll get us better results than one person trying on their own.

What exactly should I be asking the goblin, apart from "How many are in the castle? Who's the big boss?" etc.

Guard postions, rotations, and fortifications.

Skills and abilities of various members, particularly those in a position of leadership or spellcasters.

Elemental remnants in the tower.

That's what I can think of at the moment.

I can't think of anything to add to BP's above list but it seems like there should be something else we should ask the little goblin. I just can't put my finger on it.

Thought of a question or two (see IC).

I'm thinking that if the replacement ambush party will come out on their own to take up their position without the "current" ambush party returning, then we should wait the day and perform another ambush. That'll leave only one squad in the tower, plus whatever's in the main tower proper.

Alright, run with me on this one, one of the haflings (the one with higher disguise mod) dresses up as a goblin, then, leads the squad into our ambush... that would keep them from wondering about the missing squad, could even explain them. Get im to tell them names, run up "mr hobgoblin, mr hobgoblin, the other squad needs you!" is that stupid? or might it work? the issues i see are:
A) Can we get them to look like a goblin
B) Does anyone speak goblin?

Also, is it just me or are they strangly well orgonized for goblins? I guess it's just the hobgoblin infuence....

I'm hesitant to place anyone in such a vulnerable position without some garuntee of success (or at least a really high chance of it).

None of you happen to be hiding a hat of disguise on you, do you?

Is the goblin speaking goblin, common, or some other language?

Also, I take it that Termix is close enough to the goblin to hear him speaking. Correct me if I am wrong.

Common, though heavily accented according to CD.

If the group travels mounted, they can arrive before dawn (of course they don't have to). On foot they will arrive after dawn. Fugen indicates that they will arrive after dawn (implying that they will go on foot), but Trendel says that he is getting his mount (intending to arrive before dawn?).

Do you want to travel mounted or not? If mounted, do you want to wait until after dawn to reach the tower?

What do you plan to do when you get there?

First I'll point out that Fugen has already retrieved the mounts, and lead them up to the party, so Gizerak need not go anywhere to get his mount.

Second, I'm in favor of waiting long enough for daylight to negate the goblin's visual advantage.

Well, actually I'm in favor of waiting a full day to see if the goblins will send out a group to figure out what happened to the ambush party.
