What if, say, I have a great security protocol that requires a voice, eye and thumbprint scan, to even access the main code which is written in a language that you don't know as well as encrypted in that language

So... did everybody leave?

All my games have gone dark after such good openings.

I haven't left. I just can't really operate without being told what the computers can tell me based on my check, and without knowing what the Hutts' conversation was.

Yeah. I'm waiting for Pulse to continue the conversation with Enni. Or for Pantherine to jump in and talk. I know that Shakes is busy - so I don't expect him to post a lot, but it seems like the players have also been pulled away unexpectedly.

I haven't posted in any of three games which are partly waiting on me... I just can't find the time for Orp now that school has started, what with lectures, assignments, and an actual social life (this is new for me).

I make it a point to check everyday, but actual posting has been limited. and I don't see this lightening up...

I'm still here y'all, though I can't speak for the othe late posters (including Pulse, who doesn't -- to my knowledge -- have much of a reason for his tardiness).

I'll look to get a post up sometime soon, but I can't say when for definate, since my timetable currently has me working 14 hour stretches with minimal time to prepare for the next day. Reply to each other where possible, and I'll get things moving ASAP.

Of course, as mentioned prior, anyone can pull out if they wish; such a slow posting isn't what you all signed on for anyways.

I'm just using this opportunity in which all may games are bit slow right now to get ahead in my homework so that I actually have some free time to do things such as write decent posts

Oh hey look, I actually posted. Instead of doing Advanced Calc homework due tomorrow. Perhaps not the brightest of ideas.

Still, I'm proud about this post. And happy I finally got around to it. I'm getting a better picture of who R9 is now.

Also, Shakes', earlier in this chapter, you seem to have been playing R9 for comedic relief (a droid who's quite inadept at many physical tasks). Now, I don't have a problem with R9 being an occasional clown. It makes the game funnier, and thus better. But I don't want it to detract from his character too much. Mechanics-wise, he has high-dex and is decent with a pistol. Backstory-wise, he's been on several missions with Wraeth, even in a few encounters, so he's not inexperienced at this, and should usually handle himself well.

Again, I actually did like the occasional stumbling on R9's part. It actually meshes well with this character who's so sure of himself. I just don't want him devolving into Jar Jar Binks. Though Jar Jar is hilarious!

Nice post Cheese. I liked your response to the "Do you live" question. Reminded me a little of Data from Star Trek TNG.

I'll never understand the Jar-Jar hate.

I've never seen a single Star Trek episode (and just the most recent movie), so I've only ever heard of Data. But I'm not surprised that this kind of robot response has been done before. In fact, it seems to be a common theme in the later of Asimov's robot novels (and even in some of the earlier ones).

I'm liking Nessa a lot too. I keep expecting Arnold's enthusiasm for the subject to scare her away, and she keeps coming back for more. I foresee an interesting relationship.

What the hell is up with the Jar Jar hate? Why do people despise him so?

For me, he was unneeded. I get that you need a comedic sidekick, and I get that he fulfills the 3P0 role. But it was a combination of the incessant goofiness, the horrible patois, and the fact that (especially in the Clone Wars animated adventures) he is constantly getting everyone in trouble and in dangerous positions, and yet people put up with it because he's somehow charming.

The Gungans have an interesting world. And I can get in to that. But every time I hear "Meesa gon go over dere okie-day?" I get a little annoyed. The general in the droid fight, for instance, had a similar, but toned down, patois, which I didn't mind at all.

Also, Jar Jar was doomed from the start. Expectations were so obscenely high for Ep 1 that any minor flaw would become a raving point of anger. Jar Jar (and the Nemodians' bizarre pseduo-asian accents) filled that spot for me.

Also also, I like Ep 1 a lot. It has a lot of depth, and is a fine prequel. And it's not like Jar Jar is an ewok.....

It is going to take a lot more than that to scare her away A big wet dog-race of some sort might do it, though.

Actually, what are wookies supposed to be? Because this comes to mind:

I honestly prefer ewoks to jar jar - for the sole reason that they don't speak an understandable language and therefore don't bludgeon us with their stupidity -- and actually aside from Wicket, they're not that incompetent. The fact that they fire stick arrows at an AT-ST can be chalked up to them not having ever fought such advanced technology before.

As for the 3P0 comparison:

I think the 3P0 comedic relief was far better than what the bumbling gungan offers. 3P0 has the charms of an elitist butler archetype thrown into an unsavory and unsanitary rebellion that doesn't agree with his delicate sensiblities and desire for safety. Jar Jar is an alien clown that acts like he's hyped up on a stimulant cocktail. 3P0's humor may not be high brow, but at least it treats the audience as though they weren't under the age of 10 and can only find laughs in the zany antics and silly-talk of a buffoon.

Also the rest of the cast seems to ignore and forgive any idiocy that Jar Jar is capable of -- they make him a friggin' senator and he has the mind of a child.

There is no specific litmus test of Jar Jar that I can adequately put into words; it just comes down to my own personal reaction to him. In short, I can't stand him. He distracts and detracts from the Episodes that he is in. In a movie franchise that was skilled at presenting us the bizarre and fantastic as universal fact (laser swords, turning arcs in space combat, the Force and the frog-like grand master who teaches it), Jar Jar remains as the most glaring case of where they went TOO over the top -- and it was because the character wasn't believable, he didn't fit in the movie.

EDIT: Just thinking a bit more: Yoda in Ep. 5 was introduced as a silly mischievous alien inexplicably living in a swamp -- had he been left with that attitude, he would have given me the same feeling as Jar Jar did. What was great about Yoda was that they explained how the silly demeanor was a farce, and that there was far more depth to the character. They made Yoda humorous while at the same time respecting him. Sure he was a silly looking alien like the gungans are as well, but we come to ignore and even admire his form because of his character. The gungans don't get that same treatment. Their fat leader, general, and eventual senate representative Jar Jar, are all pure silliness and comic relief. With the ewoks you at least got a sense of tribal culture, songs, storytelling traditions, symbolism, and displays of empathy and bravery. Any sense of identity with the gungans, aside from their cool underwater architectural achievements, is glossed over.

Pantherine: You're pretty much spot on, as the wookies were inspired by Lucas' own dog.
