Plus we have Sean Bean and his wonderful overacting!

FYI, Dance with Dragons has a release date of July 12th. Not sure what it would be in the UK.

Just wondering what sold it for you more, the decapitations or the titties?

It apparently did well enough--and HBO has already sunk enough cash into it--to merit a second season.

The big question is what will HBO do when they catch up to Martin? They may reach season 7 before book 7 comes out.

The answer is right on the page:
  • They look cooler than regular dice.

That's an interesting concept. I've made some dungeon geomorph squares myself for the Quest'n! game I never finished making, but I never thought about a dice set of geomorphs. That's pretty darn cool.

I don't even own any dice, have no use for them, and even I want to go buy some right now. For me it hearkens back to being young and looking at that strange vertical shelving where the dice were kept behind the counter in the bookstore, each side in a separate compartment. The thick afternoon sunlight streaming through the window sent a cascade of colors from across the register.

Of course, back in my day if a copy of a book that you wanted wasn't there you had to have the store order it. Waiting two weeks for my PHB was the definition of agony for a boy of 11. And when I finally set my semi-grubby mitts upon it? Ah, the joy of devouring all the archaisms that D&D used to rely upon.

Oh, nostalgia. You whipper-snappers have it so easy these days with your Amazon and your internet and your rule systems that are constructed in a logical fashion.

Gral, back me up on this.

All I remember is spending literal days paging through my old PHB during family vacations, building horribly cheesy and unbalanced characters that didn't even fit the rules.
Also I love purchasing all kinds of strange dice that never get used.

Back in my day we didn't even have books - our rules were carved into stone tablets, and they took months to make even if you quarried the stone yourself. Then you had to carry them uphill everywhere you went, in sub-zero weather, without shoes because damn it, you had to sell those shoes to pay the stonemason.

You kids these days, with your fancy dice and your iPods and your snacks. I wanted a snack once - the DM shot me with a crossbow and then left me in the arctic, where I had to rip the bolt out of my chest and use it to kill a polar bear. He was pretty tasty, too. And don't even get me started on dice, because we didn't have your fancy schamnncy dice. We had things like "a rattlesnake only injects poison 25% of the time" and "the odds of getting struck by lightning while standing on the roof in a storm holding up a 10' steel rod are 1 in 20". I hated that damned snake.

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times . . .

I said, uh . . .

Eh, what was I talking about?

Bah, shut up! Like I'd listen to you. Now get off of my lawn!

itches: You know, when people go up to the north pole, they take guns with them because of Polar Bears.
itches: Not to kill them, just to scare them off. A gun won't kill a polar bear.
itches: They're like artic witches.
Gralhruk: Are you doubting my story?
itches: I'm just saying, if you tried to stab a polar bear with a crossbow bolt he's skin you alive then wear that skin and spend 27 years living your life
Gralhruk: So yeah, I might be a polar bear if that is what you're getting at.
itches: Fortunatly I live in the hottest place on earth and am safe from polar bears
itches: ... unless they use some of that arctic witch magic
Gralhruk: It certainly explains why I always screw up forum creation.
itches: no thumbs
Gralhruk: And I'm trying to hold a seal with the other hand.
I guess polar bears are technically a type of undead.

Hm? *perk* Titties?! I like titties!
At a distant second a friend of mine once recommended the series to me. From his description it didn't feel like it had much to offer me as it came across as a rather dry and boring history lesson.

...and then I ready forum page 163 and realized I had nothing further to offer the conversation.

Also, I was thinking of renaming this thread to "Entertain Lune while he is at work".
