The Roll function

Are there any other fuctions with the roll command? For my shadowrun game in particular (as with all SR games), you get use to rolling 10 to 20 d6's at once and counting the successes - any chance there's a command that will tabulate the # of successes automatically?

Any other features of it aside from just telling it how many dice to roll and what mods to apply?

At this point all it does is roll and add mods (plus do stat rolling for d20), and you need to put different types of rolls under different tags. The best you can do is go 66 and count them when you cover your cursor over it. You can't fudge the individual rolls by doing that, but you could fudge the average: 40

Still I wish you could as that's how it works for WoD games too, so keep asking and maybe LeeCHeSSS will code it in for us.

Pity, oh well. It's still very handy, I'm just getting a lot of copy/paste action going now lol. But it does save us referencing an off-site roller at for sure.

That fudge function is pure evil...

The best part of the fudge function is getting impossible rolls. For instance if I were to roll a d6 and somehow it ends up as an 8

Is there a limit to how many dice rolls you can have in a posting? The reason I'm asking is because in this thread I have 38 dice rolls lol, and we've only just gotten started (gotta love SR for the insane amount of dice rolling that happens...especially when Rigging or Decking get involved)

ROFL! Well that takes care of that worry. I can't recall having to roll 200 dice in SR before, but I've gotten as high as about 130 at a time for a few circumstances (happens when you get a Drone Rigger who really knows his stuff lol).

There's no set limit. You can theoretically hit a limit though:
All rolls are stored in one big array which is converted to a long string of text using the serialize function. The length of this string is mostly unpredictable (a roll of 1 on a 1d100 will result in a:1:{i:0;s:9:"1d100;1;1";} while a roll of 100 on a 1d100 will result in a:1:{i:0;s:13:"1d100;100;100";}). As you can see, one result ends up taking 26 characters, while the other takes up 31 characters. These serialized strings are stored in a MEDIUMTEXT database field which can hold a maximum of 16777216 characters.

So if anyone feels like doing a bit of math to predict the average number of rolls that will fit into one post, have fun

If that's 16.7M divided by 28.5, then that's not even remotely accurate. But it does prove that you're very very unlikely to hit any limit...

Well we could just find out with trial and error. But I suspect the forum software will break before that function does. If I recall correctly for vbulletin, the post content is stored in a longtext field, which can hold alot of data but if you flood it with a few million roll commands you'll hit the size limit before you hit the dice rolling size limit I bet.

On the other hand, 16 million dice rolls will probably crash the server. PHP isn't a workhorse like Perl, I don't think it could handle that many calculations depending on the server that is hosting this site.

I don't see why it would have any troubles with that. The php script parses the post for rolls and then performs them one at a time, nothing exciting about it.

Anyway, this is moot.

Back to your original question/suggestion. I won't be able to code it in any time soon, but as soon as I have more time I will see what I can do for you.
