OK - draft character sheet for Inyx posted as requested. No equipment yet - what would you like us to do about equipping the characters?

Standard second level gold, no more than half on any one item. Chalice, could you mark your total skill bonuses on the sheet too. Apart from that its nice to see one of the players steaming ahead with a character, hopefully the others will move as quickly.

Will do, boss. Hoping to have evrything on there this evening.

<looks up from equipment section> And - oh dear - I think I may have to buy a pack pony to fit all of Inyx's archeology kit, nice wine and snuggly spare blankets on

Seriously, shall we have an OOC concensus as to whether to purchase mounts or not?

I tend to find that mounts are an inconvenience and are forgotten easily. I'd rather not have to tie up my pony every time we wander down into some ruins, and return to find that some scrote has nicked it.

Personally, as a Dwarf I have no problem lugging my 70lb of kit and weapons around, and will be happy to carry some of your stuff too if your feeble little Human legs can't magage it...

Uh, slender Half-Elven legs thank you! Will see if can manage without my horse and pack pony, though

"Short" being the operative word there

Seriously though if we're not going for mounts I'll wave goodbye to my warhorse and take back some of the points I spent on ride...

No being mean to the dwarf! (I may need him for heavy lifting.)

Having sacrificed my extra woolly blankets, my tent, my silk rope and a few other necessities, I managed to be no more than medium encumbered on foot. But if I need to lay in trail rations or completely fill my waterskin, I'm gonna need help Life on 9 Strength - sigh!

Well we could take horses.

I'm on medium, and I still have 300 Gp to spend. It's just that whenever I see horses in a group, they're forgotten about, or else something comes up that's a hindrance. Like exploring ruins.

Perhaps Mr Tim can give us a base to operate out of where we can stow the more un-necessary kit?

A base'd be nice! I have cash for lots more neat stuff, but can't lift any of it. I didn't know if we'd be needing crowbars, shovels and things for digging up ruins...invested in them all at first, then Inyx fell over.

I did find that most of the weight carried by pack pony turned out to be food for the pack pony. And you're right - animals do tend to run off if you leave them at the ruin entrance with a nosebag and a friendly 'mummy'll be back soon, you wait here'.

I now have an ambulatory version I'm quite happy with. Inyx likes her comforts, but can do without for a certain length of time - probably using up some of that spare cash on luxuries in breaks between expeditions

In the beginning you can rely on the guildsmen who hired you to provide any specialist materials. Then again, being prepared always has advantages when the unexpected happens.

And In Tim's games, the unexpected is only to be expected.

Nope. He's going to sulk in a corner, steadfastly refusing to speak in anything other than his native language.

Much like a Welshman...

Well I am thinking of a Elvin Fighter/Wizard at the moment. Not a front line type all of the time as he will become more and more Wizard as he goes along. Other than that I was thinking of a human Gladiator type (straight fighter), who won his freedom of course ;-)....then again a straight wizard might be helpful later on down the line in sheer firepower.

Any suggestions from the peanut gallary while I bone up on my third edition?

Gladiator would be Bollan the Bold
Wizard would be Solumun the Wierd (also likely an Elf)
The F/W would be Tup'an Au'naah (would specialize in whatever school Lightning Bolt/Fireball/Magic Missle is in ;-)

I don't recall ever seeing someone playing an ex-gladiator anywhere on the site. And I think the physical muscle would help balance the party (with luck a wizard is on the way). So I heartily endorse the concept. Sinst city has a large arena, and Rerl is the kind of place that would have a few arenas in order to amuse the aristocracy. As would Venterra. So yes, lots of possiblities for that one.

Also, in order to encourage pretty character sheets and interesting backgrounds I'm offering a possible 500xp bonus to each character. Half for the sheet looking good and being correct and half for the background and nice fluffy bits.

ooh - xps!

Definitely motivation to continue my battle with the thread editor tonight - hopefully it'll be nicer than it was last night and make my character sheet pretty (well prettier anyway!)

And an ex-Gladiator could carry some really heavy books <hopeful look>

Were you thinking of an ex-Gladiator from the Imperium itself?

I tried for pretty with a couple of pics - but can only make them work as links to my photobucket, not get them to appear in the thread itself. One day, I aspire to make columns 'stay' too.

And I wouldn't say no to some help on the front-line either...with two of us it would be an actual line for a start

The wizard is here! The wizard is here! .... and yes, he's that prententious. -_-; So brace yourselves.

I'm quite glad I found this thread. It gives me a chance to show that I'm not a complete asshole, unlike the character. Well ... we'll see how they get on. Just thought I'd poke my head in, with a sheet on the way later today.

When was the last time somebody played a humble unassuming wizard?

/me doesn't raise his hand.
