4e Smilies

4e D&D is loaded with simple little symbols that help keep formatting nice and compact. Most of these symbols are about smiley sized, so... what if we made them official smilies?
  • We could load our posts with dice!
  • Have :melee: and :ranged: smilies! Even :area: and :close: smilies!
  • And whatever other symbols I'm ignoring because of image limits!
What roleplaying site shouldn't have easy access to roleplaying symbols? They'd be easy to make, assuming we couldn't persuade anyone to let us borrow the symbols they've already made. (The symbols I've posted here are taken from this post on EN World).

Seems relatively clever/useful.

We'd need to summon Danny. This can be a tricky ritual.

Seems like it'd be semi-useful though. So I'm all for it.

Clearly we should magically integrate the dice roller and smilies in order to produce a randomized :d6: smiley.

I agree. Though I don't know PHP so I couldn't assist with that, but it should be something simple.

int die;
if (int die = 6)
load jpg of d6;

etc. etc. you get the picture.

Actually I was sort of joking, but whatever.

Regardless, we'd need the smilies first; should concentrate on that.

LP wants :melee:, :ranged:, etc. "smilies," as well as some d6 ones.
I agree, BRR said to ask Danny, you're Danny now (or something), so yeah.

Clearly this should be done.

Also, don't we only have 4 animated smilies? :tsk: :nod: shit :cat:

I'm not convinced because of A) Potental copy right issues and B) A lack of need for them. That said I'm willing to be convinced if someone can put forth a strong enough arguement.

And I was talking about the Latverian spambot.

Would there still be copyright issues if I were to hack up a few original icons, with more generic "sword," "arrow," "burst" and "cone" symbols?
Fairly certain that wouldn't infringe on anything.

Also, they'd create their own need, clearly.
Perhaps not in most posts, but for character sheets, etc. Useful!

But what happens when I make Orp the centrepiece of my vast commerical empire? And you own a few of the smilies?!

But smilies aimed at one particular system (worse, a one particular edition of a particular system) is going to be a hard sell. Die on the other hand ...

You could work around that, perhaps by taking ownership of zachol's body and soul after he makes them.

Even just the dice would be pretty cool. 4e stat blocks would be limited or awkward anyways, as there can only be 10 images a post.

Why exactly do you think I am needed for this, Tim?

Image limits can be circumvented by plugins easily - I don't know if smilies even count towards that limit.

My first response to the dieroller with images: it's not cheatproof. How would you differentiate a genuine roll from a manually inserted image. Plus those images are only for d6...

I get the joke, but I agree with LeeCHeSSS. And frankly, I think it violates the spirit of the "three line" sig rule, if not the actual letter of the law.
