Paco Character Generation Thread

I'm going to be playing an Anri healer. Although he uses magic for healing, I see him as much as a doctor/surgeon. As a hybrid channeler/mentalist, he's got a reverence for the gods (especially Aramana), but he's also got that do-it-by-force-of-will-alone mentality that many human mentalists get.

He's spent some time as a medic in the Republican army, so he's got at least some basic combat skills. He's likely trained to fight with a short sword. Maybe knives, too.

His upbringing, combined with certain personality traits, can make him a bit undiplomatic. But he's not a prick.

Right now, he's completely disenchanted with the Anri republic and everything about it. He's set out to see the world beyond the republic's borders and meet it on his own terms. Sort of like a Hemingway novel without the booze or the soul-crushing angst.

Marius was born a slave. He was separated from his parents at a very early age (he’s not even sure how early) and moved around from owner to owner. By the time he was old enough to investigate his pedigree, he didn’t care anymore. They were dead by then, anyway.

Marius spent his early childhood in service to a local tanner who lived just outside of Thesria. The tanner and his wife were good people. The tanner was old, and he was becoming arthritic. Marius, with his young, slender, nimble hands, was able to do much of the fine leather work that the tanner could not in his twilight years. Under the tanner, Marius learned three things: skill with a blade, anatomy, and detachment.

When Marius was eight, the tanner’s wife took ill. Marius tended to her constantly. She lingered for two years before finally passing on. The tanner paid for frequent visits from Lucian, a healer from nearby Thesria. But there wasn’t much Lucian could do, as the healer’s wife was in her twilight years. Even Lucian could not stave off old age. During his visits, Lucian noticed that Marius had untapped potential as a healer. Lucian knew that he had seen more sunrises than he had remaining, and wished to pass on his knowledge to an heir. But he had no son of his own. He bought the boy from the tanner and took him as his apprentice.

Marius was very well treated by his new master, for a slave or otherwise. Lucian indoctrinated him in the mystic ways of the healer. Marius studied under Lucian for eight years, learning the ways of medicine, magic, and the gods. Lucian died a week after Marius’s eighteenth birthday. In his will, he granted all his slaves freedom.

Marius was a free man.

Marius joined the Republican army. His hope was to earn his citizenship through service, develop some contacts through the military, then when he mustered out, start up a practice like Lucian had. Unfortunately, Marius proved to be too much of a pain in the ass for military life. He’s not a smart ass. He doesn’t do it to be glib. He does it because he’s right. And he’ll let you know it. Even if you’re a superior officer whose judgment isn’t always spot-on.

After three years of service, Marius was “invited to leave” the Republican army, his commanding officer citing that his services were no longer required in this time of relative peace.

When he was dismissed, Marius wanted nothing more than to get out of Thesria—to get out of the Republic entirely. He had heard of the struggles across the sea in Cylenis. Surely they would have need of either a soldier or a healer. After all, when you’re a lumberjack, you go where the trees are…

And I invoke whimsy to veto your veto.

I also lay one card face down on the field and end my turn.

K. Let's go for stat assignments and potentials now.

AG: 50 / 71 (50+21 )
CO: 75 / 92 (80+12 )
ME: 65 / 90 (70+20 )
RE: 65 / 86 (70+16 )
SD: 85 / 99 (90+9 )
EM: 65 / 91 (70+21 )
IN: 85 / 92 (90+2 )
PR: 75 / 91 (80+11 )
QU: 50 / 75 (50+25 )
ST: 54 / 91 (50+41 )

Not too shabby. Lots of potentials in the 90s. I can feel good about those. And check out the 91 potential strength. Watch me flex!

I was trying to find a way to export my character sheet from the Hero Maker and cut and paste it here. I failed. I can't remember how I did it with Hardball. It's been too long. So I replaced it with "." for now.

By the way, I think I've talked to most of you about this but thought I'd officially post it anyway.

I have decided to abandon the Anri healer in favor of someone more... epicly heroic. I blame the release of Beowulf on DVD. I also blame myself for reading through the actual poem again.

My intent at this point is to make a Beowulf-like character. Someone with skill at arms who roams the countryside looking for challenge, adventure, fame, and glory.
