Fjorvild von Magnusson, a name meaning Kingslayer son of the Great in old Dwarf, is a man with a long and shadowy past that most do not know.

He was born in a great hold of the dwarfs, the name of which he never came to know. His father was an earl of some sort, his mother a tavern wench. He was an heir to a prestigious line and an heir to a vast fortune but he had enemies even as an infant. One such enemy was a cousin of his, who before Fjorvild's birth, was destined to inherit everything. This cousin had to get rid of the new child.

The cousin and his family constructed a plan to dispose of the child. They would send the king of the dwarves of the region to the oracle of the gods for council on this matter, but only after bribing the oracle to say what they wanted it to say. That Fjorvild was evil, and destined to bring misery and woe to the kingdom (which was more than half true). The king decreed the child should be banished, not killed like the cousin hoped, and that the cousin should escort the child out of the kingdom.

They left by caravan into the wilds. Within days the caravan was beset on all sides by duergar raiders. The cousin and his family were all slain or taken as slaves. The baby was taken to be food for the king of the duergar. Fate intervened, and on their way back to the underdark the duergar were killed by halfling barbarians. The cousins family was slaughtered and all that remained was Fjorvild.

Fjorvild grew up smart and mean with the halflings, learning their tricks and trade. Even though he was considered an outcast he still rose to a position of minor prominence within the village as shaman's assistant. After he came of age though the shaman informed Fjorvild of his heritage, and Fjorvild left to find his home. He found it, but his lineage had been lost and the king had taken the estate of his fathers and forefathers. Fjorvild didn't mind, it wasn't like he ever had it anyway.

Fjorvild and the king became friends. Fjorvild eventually became a paladin but the traditional knights of the kingdom never accepted him because of his reckless abandon of tradition. His path was one of divine inspiration. When civil war hit the kingdom Fjorvild declared himself the Voice of Draved. He and his side of the civil war were dealt with harshly, and he was banished once more.
