Your favorite God/Pantheon

Well. It seems clear....

What's your favourite God/Pantheon. As there almost as many gods as there are people I try to use the most common/popular ones...

I wondered that. I was too polite to ask though.

Not enough that I would list them separately. I'm also forced to question why Buddah is listed as a god, but there is nothing for the Hindu faith.

This is why I post polls about my socks.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for intelligent discussions, but how does this not break the rule about posts involving religion?

Because it involves some religions so long dead that their only current incarnation is as D&D pantheons. See Deities & Demigods, and try not to stare at Bast too long before answering.

My initial assumption of the poll was similar; the rule clearly wasn't created for fictional religions. However as 4 of the religions in the poll has active worship, the assumption that they are fictional would itself count as a discussion about religion.

Because of that I'm forced to agree that this poll really does break the rule, even if not directly. Then you have to take into account the question which would promote discussion about the different religions, which is exactly what the rule prohibits.

I don't have a problem with the poll or its contents. Nor am I looking to get it shut down. What I'm curious about is why it's acceptable.

This is a non-answer. It involves some religions that have fallen out of the mainstream. It also has several that are still currently practiced. In fact, the inclusion of contemporary, popular religions alongside ancient mythology is particularly divisive. If you disagree, try asking a devout Christian if they think their religion should be compared to Zeus and Baccus in terms of mythology.

Look, I'm curious about this subject because I've refrained from posting anything regarding real-world politics or religion. Is it acceptable so long as we frame it with roleplaying in mind? In which case, will my poll discussing Stalin's D&D alignment fly?

I do! A simple banning isn't enough for this transgression, we must sacrifice PaVel to our gods!

Yes, but which gods should we sacrifice 'im to?

Let us know your opinion and vote in the poll!

Go for it, understand that most people know no Russian history but are willing to pretend that they do and spout gibberish. Stalin is more history than politics in my eyes. And you can always just PM me if you are confused about whether is something is above board.

As for this poll it'd seem kosher to me if it was just about the old pantheons of Gods, the inclusion of the "modern" religions seems to push it towards the boundry. I'll see what Danny thinks before I do anything though.

The Stalin thing was just a throwaway idea (although I do appreciate anyone with an understanding of Russian history). I'd have proposed using Hitler but I figured it'd be considered hyperbole.

As I said, I'm down with the poll as long as I know what's cool and what isn't.

I don't see any problem with stating your favourite god/pantheon. I don't want to start a discussion which god is better/worse than the other.

You can have preferences and people should accept that. personally I like most mythology if it's roman, greek ( yes they are different, only slightly but still, it's just like coca-cola & pepsi ), norse or egyptian. Hell I even have read 'some' irish mythology.

And if I think god(s) exists, I won't tell you, because that would be starting a 'discussion' about religion

I was tempted by the 'other' category, but then I thought it might be a little immodest of me to declare myself to be my favourite pantheon.

So my runner-up favourite pantheon would have to be the Egyptians. Rock on Anubis! (Anpu for you purists)

I love the idea of being carried away by a Valkyrie when I die, to spend eternity eating too much, drinking too much and starting fights.

And a no-holds barred political discussion (argument) would liven things up no-end, just as long as everyone is prepared to be mature about it. In other words, it'll probably never happen.

Luna and the Unconquered Sun for the win! ( ' ')/

The gods of Exalted surely are the most prestigious and have the coolest minions and demigods and such.

I must be the only person who thought "what do you mean, real life or in D&D?" when I read this poll....

Yay for classical paganism, I suppose...

And really, if this is a D&D question, why is there stuff like "christianity" in the mix?

(I know this has been said, just restating...)

Eh, whatever. Regardless of the context, Greek. Norse a close second.

Dionysus > Bacchus, any day.

I was happy with this thread being left alone. Now by bringing it back, I'm forced to enforce the rules regarding unacceptable topics.
