EC: If you want to post Makoa's first round action as well, feel free to do so. Will try to get an update done tonight, but making no promises.

Also: I highly recommend both the Advanced Player's Guide as well as the Game Master's Guide.

That is all.

Any examples of awesome things in the Game Mastery Guide? The preview mentions some cool utilities, but I wasn't convinced it was a must-have.

Mostly it is just toolkit items. I am not saying it is a must have, and honestly, there are parts where it teases but doesn't deliver ("Make a steampunk campaign! but we're not providing the crunchy bits to make it happen.").

Some of it is just advice that might bore some people to tears (how to handle difficult players, how to devise a campaign setting). Some good concise rules about adventuring in different locales (desert, cold, water, different planes, etc), and quite a few random tables that I would browse just for inspiration. Its not as much bang for the buck as the APG, but a handy little reference doc all the same doubly so if you are new to running games and find yourself having difficulty.

Hmmm, it sounds like I should get both of those.

Also - first round post for Makoa? I'll get right on it.

Sorry I didn't get to it before your post Darius, but Makoa's action is up now. I had wanted to convey a bit more and better about how Makoa does magic, but I think this is adequate for the time being.

Also, can someone explain to me a little bit about flying combat? Am I correct in understanding that my eagle can move its fly speed (80 ft/16 squares) in a turn? Can it do fly-by attacks, moving through an opponent's square and attacking it, then continuing on? Does this provoke AoOs? I'll try and read up, but I'd like help from anybody who can give it.

Edit: Bah, it seems like a fly-by attack is out at least, since you need a feat for it which my eagle doesn't have...

Also note that unlike Spring Attack, Flyby Attack does provoke attacks of opportunity. In 3.5 there is a feat called Adroit Flyby Attack (in the Draconomicon, I believe) that eliminates the problem.

Any suggestions then on what my first action with the eagle should be (next turn)? Move next to one and attack it? I think that's probably going to be short enough to require a fly check... Stupid flying rules, and here I was thinking that picking an Eagle would be the smartest tactical choice...

You don't have to choose a square to summon the monster until the spell comes into effect, so I'd wait and see where the bandits are, and then put the eagle right next to one for an evil-smiting full attack.

In fact, you don't need to choose anything until the spell comes into effect; all decisions about a spell, range, target, effect, all of them, are made in the round it actually takes effect, not when you start casting. So you're not locked into summoning an eagle if you're having second thoughts. I'd say it's smartest to summon something that can deal as much damage as possible, since it'll only last a single round; that's probably the eagle anyways, since it gets three attacks, potentially all smite evil.

Once again, thank you LeadPal for coming to my rescue with the rules. You are awesome.

Cool, so I'll see what the layout is next round then, and decide what to do. So a creature can make an attack with each natural weapon it has? What kind of penalties apply to that?

Edit: Okay, I read the rules on natural attacks - cool, 3 attacks, and no penalty. That's pretty sweet!

Went for the first time ever to a game shop today. Bought myself two dice sets (I finally have non-6-sided dice!).

I also decided to buy a single book while there as well ('cause everything's so darned expensive), and since I'm mostly playing Pathfinder, and that's the game that I like most so far, and that's the one system I know for sure my Sci-Fi club at the university doesn't have in the library, it came down to the Core Rulebook or the APG. Since I'm still really a new player, I figured best to get the Core rules. Unfortunately, it seems that basically all the text in there is present word-for-word in the SRD, which I've already read most of. So now I have a nice reference document on my desk, and can take it easily to Face-to-Face sessions, but otherwise it was a waste of money.

I'll probably get the pdf of the APG soon, since you guys say it's so cool.

LeadPal- I am currently waiting on you, unless you have decided that Kayel was a) never part of the group to begin with or b) is going to spend her time hiding in the storage shed.

I think I can post tonight, but if I don't just keep Kayel in the shed, most likely to never escape.

Aw. Lynn wanted to question him. Extensively.
Being the leader, he'd maybe have more information or something.

Not sure if I want to spend my action using stabilize on him or fruitlessly shooting at another bandit (damn lucky shot just now).
Lynn's going to delay until after Mattin - is 17 enough to hit?

Bah, I should have done Burning Hands with my Bond for the automatic hit. Oh well, I don't think it matters too much.

Hey Darius, can I switch out the Nobility domain for the Leadership subdomain, from the APG? I like that its granted power isn't made redundant by Bardic Music, and that it switches magic vestment with prayer, which makes more sense for my character. Though Brilliant Inspiration makes less sense than Geas/Quest, oh well.
