Arena-Style. No team crap, just pure destruction. Start at level 16, all 18's base, triple starting gold, and max HP. 11 rounds, followed by two special three-on-one deathmatches for the top 3 players. Tournament fighting in droves basically. Will need a lot of people, and I won't fudge any dice. To be hosted in The Shadow Realm (http://pub32.ezboard.com/btheshadowrealm4004), bacause all rules of decency go out the mother****ing windowz.

I think I will join. It would be good to be a PC instead of a DM in this sort of game.

House rules:
-I allow every real book, and Dragon mag.
-Both weapons and armor's enhancement bonuses are a # squared x 1500 gp. This includes bracers of armor. I don't know why they made weapons twice as expensive. Maybe someone can afford a decent ranged/secondary weapon now.
-Ranger variant (Sponk knows what it is). It's not much more powerful, but it's much more customizable.
-Any race or template can be taken, as long as it's ELC+ is officially known.
-Custom items can be made, but I finalize the price.
-Any prestige class that you can qualify for may be taken.
-Paladins and monks can multiclass freely (Alignment restrictions still apply).
-PHB, Psi, and OA classes accepted.
-This list is subject to change (ie I can't remember a couple right now).
-If x number of people are not available, NPC characters will be opponents, but the last 3 rounds are all PC.
-The last two rounds are special rounds, and allow PC cooperation.
-The first 11 rounds have only 1 direct winner, with 2nd and 3rd place. Backstabbing in encouraged after 1st opponent is gone.
-I award battlebots-style points on damage (Killing opponents outright), hazards (acid, pits, NPC monsters, etc), and creativity. A max range fireball or a fighter's melee attack aren't worth anything, but killing is worth the most.
-Diablo II-style gambling between matches are available. Average price for a minor/medium/major items are used, and I randomly roll the item.
-Hired goons, cohorts, familiars, etc. are OK.

yeah no prob, just post a link for your board and i'll let them know
Of if you don't want the risk of me mis-represnting you post a little ad message (otherwise i'll just copy and paste your ytwo messages with the link and a little word saying its not actually my game)

Dubious amounts of copious damage!!!!!!! I'll have to do some real meta-game twinking for this one! ;)

The first two posts by me can be cut/paste on the board, or the whole thread if you want. Might want to tell them that religious and political topics are always welcome there.

if it isn't to your liking or whatever i'll change it
But it's up there now
so tht should get some more interest
Although some people still seem to hold grudges against you :P
Setzer Gabbiani
18th of September, 2002, 06:28
Thanks Red. That should bring a few more (Hopefully a lot more).
As for the grudges, I don't think there'll be any big problem. Aside from one or two members that know me, Rebecca, and a handful of new guys that have only heard of me, no one seems to have a problem with it.
Edit: Sorry to bug you about this, but the link won't work now that it's been copied directly (Or something like that). The one here works, but the one there has an error message.
http://pub32.ezboard.com/btheshadowrealm4004

Why can't you? It's just an ezboard. you can start a free local account with your current name. Or is it a time thing?

18th of September, 2002, 23:50
I just want to keep my gaming to one board at this time. I may be getting a job soon as I am trialing for it now and I will be going back to college next year. With the amount of games I am in and DM with those factors on top............yes time.
Setzer Gabbiani
19th of September, 2002, 14:02
Well, 3EBB's ignoring the offer, so I need more people here. I need at least 9, and that's a much shorter game.
SponkleofInfini
19th of September, 2002, 14:31
I will only enter the game on one condition and that is if it is held on this board...........sorry.

I'll see if LeecHess will allow this with a big warning.

As of LeecHess reply, which I'm not going to make any current promises on behalf of, we have a chance of it being here. Specific details are to follow, but for now... GET MORE PEOPLE HERE.

Monte Cook's Sorcerer or Bard?
Some guy on the 3ebb is asking if you want to use these alternate classes
The sorceror is a little strange but i suppose it kind of makes sense (but changing the level's of spells around and giving access to different spell levels at different times seems a little overobard to me) and I dislike his bard
Still thats just my idle ramblings :)
So are you making either class up for grabs?
Setzer Gabbiani
21st of September, 2002, 22:02
Nah. Monte's insane, and I don't allow anything he thinks up (Unless it's published under the official name).
Aranan
22nd of September, 2002, 04:41
Hey there, I'm "some guy from 3ebb". I was just wondering why you'd think Monte would be insane.. have you looked at his sorcerer yet? *shrug*
Anyway, I don't think I'll be playing, I've got my hands full as it is trying to DM my own f2f game.
Setzer Gabbiani
22nd of September, 2002, 05:37
Three reasons really. One: I don't trust Monty. Whether he's fixed his attitude or not, everything I've seen was munched to hell and back through a pit fiend's ass. Two: I have my own slight variant (Explained below). Three: They're already balanced -- Any variants I come up with usually have customizability in mind.
Variant for all spellcasters: Mana
-Each spell costs twice it's level in mana (1 mana for 0-level).
-Casters have mana equal to the number of spell levels they can cast (Example: A level 3 wizard with 14-19 Int has 18 mana, or 4/3/2 spell levels).
-Prepare spells as normal, except that a spell's level # doesn't matter.
-This means a caster can choose to risk a lot by using mostly higher-level spells, play it safe with lower/utilitarian, or strike a balance similar to the core spell levels.
-This variant does not affect psions, since they already have a similar setup.
Variant for spellcasters with less than 9 total spell levels: The Continuum
-When a spellcaster with fewer than 9 total spell levels (Bard, ranger, etc.) reaches the class level in which the maximum level of spells is available, the previously wasted bonus (If any) will "wrap around" the levels, giving the character full use of the bonus.
-Example, a ranger at 14th level gets all 4 levels of spells. With 20 Wis, s/he would have 4/2/2/1, and the 5th-level bonus is wasted, as rangers do not get 5th-level spells. With this variant, s/he would have 4/3/2/1, when the bonus level "wraps around" the amount of levels s/he had.
Ranger Variant: Little more power, lot more customization
-BAB, saves, spell progression, etc, remains the same.
-At 9th level, improved two-weapon fighting is now a bonus virtual feat, useable only in light or no armor.
-At 15th-level the ranger gains greater two-weapon fighting as a bonus virtual feat, useable only in light or no armor.
-The player may trade the two-weapon fighting feats for another feat "tree", with bonus virtual feats having the same requirements and level progression.
-Example feat trees:
Expertise/Improved Disarm/Improved Trip/Whirlwind Attack
Improved Initiative/Great Fortitude/Lightning Reflexes/Iron Will
Point-Blank Shot/Far Shot/Precise Shot/Rapid Shot/Shoot On The Run (Choose 4 from this list, Point-Blank Shot must be one of them)
Mounted Combat/3 other mounted feats
Power attack/3 other related feats
One-Handed weapon
Double weapon
Two-handed weapon
Toughness/Dwarf's Toughness/Giant's Toughness/Dragon's Toughness (+30 extra hp, because melee in light armor sucks)
-Urban ranger (MotW)
-Defensive favored enemy bonus
Any characters in Ultimate Power (Working title), may freely choose to use or ignore any of these variants.

the sorceror is quite a heavy twitst
he bangs up the HD ( ithink, i'm working off memory here), to d6
but he delays a few of the traditional sorceror spells (haste springs to mind) so they have to wait till they reach a higher level to cast them
I think in the end it's balanced
If you mean Monte's Ranger, yeah everyone agrees it's overpowered. I think even he said it was, but that isn't somthing he actuallt published, he just dumped it on his site. Although I used toi dislike the guy, it turns out he is an I?zzard fan so he can't be all bad
hehe, sorry about calling you "some guy" Aranan , i'm terrible with names and too lazy to check back when i did that post:)
Aranan
22nd of September, 2002, 06:37
No problem at all BRR :) Yes, the HD is increased to d6. He changed the spells for mostly flavour (in my opinion, I haven't poured over them too much). Here's a little excerpt from his website about his varient sorcerer:
My other consideration in making the sorcerer spell list was one of flavor and feel. In my mind, the bookish wizard is the one in the magical lab poring over old books, doing strange experiments, and learning things. So "intellectual" spells like identify or legend lore got cut for the sorcerer to enhance the distinction between the classes. I also didn't see sorcerers necessarily making things, so I also cut spells like arcane mark and Leomund's tiny hut. A lot of spells that might require study or finesse, rather than just raw power, got the axe. Ultimately, I wanted to cut the list down a fair bit for balance reasons, to make the sorcerers and wizards that much more different, and because it just didn't need to be so darned big. Having so many choices as a sorcerer, when you only get to select a handful, makes the class actually less fun to play at times.
I'm not trying to convince you or anything, I'm just showing as many of the facts that I can. I, personally, really like how the sorcerer and wizard are now different. I always thought of the phb sorcerer as just a "wizard-varient".
On a side note.. I think I'm really liking this forum type. Much more user friendly than EZBoard :)

Grrrrrrrr the damn mana system, the very overpowered system. The system that allows you to apply metamagic feats to 9th levels spells at 20th level and slightly under with the feat of course.
This system is rediculous it makes arcane casters more powerful then they allready are. Like psions are underpowered campared to the normal arcane classes. Fighter type characterss are also dwarfed by the mana system...........grrrrr
As you can tell I hate it :)
Setzer Gabbiani

...apply metamagic feats to 9th levels spells at 20th level...
It should be obvious that you still can't cast spells above your max level, metamagic inclusive.

Come on people, do you want to start this or not? Hrmph. Well, how about this: I'll start it now, but it won't last very long without more people. Is everyone OK with that?
SponkleofInfini
29th of September, 2002, 09:38
Well I don't mind, all this means is you will have to deviate to a different type of game. Not dramatically different, but just accomodate for what you have. you may get more people further down the track.
So how many people do you have all up?
Setzer Gabbiani
29th of September, 2002, 13:56
Even I'm not entirely sure of that right now. If you're wanting to play, make a quick post in this thread as soon as possible. Oh, and here's some changes being made to counteract the number of people:
-Starting level is now 10
-Alright already! No mana system this time.
-This'll be set in a version of the FF VI world. This'll mean a lot of options for deathmatch maps, since they're already basically squared off. As the DM (Already called Setzer, of course), The airship's a cool way to keep an eye on everything.
-Since only allowing my ranger variant would be a bit too egotistical, I'll be using core rules for all classes.
-Armor and weapon enhancement prices will be as normal.
-Multiclassing rules apply.
-As in FF VI, random items can be found, usually, potions or minor scrolls.
As a primer, here's some of the arenas available in said world:
-Magitek Facility: Conveyors, NPC guards, outsiders, and magical beasts to fight, pits
-Esper Cave: Outsiders and magical beasts to fight, lava, switching walls/platforms
-Narshe: Beasts and primitive humanoids to fight, cold weather, hidden cave entrance
-Leet River: Fight on a raft, aquatic monsters, choose paths for treasure or monsters

So is the campaign going to be held at these boards?
Damn level 10, ohwell I will have to alter my character
Setzer Gabbiani
29th of September, 2002, 14:22
I don't have the official word yet from L, but when I do I'll say. I don't have the epic level handbook, so I have to lower the levels if we're going to do the mindless slaughter thing until there's enough for a mortal-kombat-style kill-a-thon. I have some of the prices for the gambling, and I think I have it right. The odds are fairly even as to getting something. That is, the odds of extreme items vs really bad ones are about the same.
One more thing: For buying things, you may spend 10,000 gp/level on any one item (Requiring higher levels for the ultimate gear). No nonepic/artifact item exceeds 200,000 gp. Burning XP by crafting your own (And at the expense of combat feats) increases the maximum by 25% (Market price).
Setzer Gabbiani
30th of September, 2002, 19:31
If you haven't spent all your money on gear yet, here are the gambling options I have done right now (Scrolls involve massive number-crunching, so they go last):
Minor Armor: 8,500 gp
Minor Shield: 7,750 gp
Medium Armor: 26,100 gp
Medium Shield: 30,500 gp
Major Armor: 46,400 gp
Major Shield: 55,000 gp
Minor Melee Weapon: 13,000 gp
Minor Ranged Weapon: 13,000 gp
Medium Melee Weapon: 39,200 gp
Medium Ranged Weapon: 33,800 gp
Major Melee Weapon: 74,600 gp
Major Ranged Weapon: 74,600 gp
Minor Potion: 300 gp
Medium Potion: 404 gp
Major Potion: 541 gp
Minor Ring: 6,544 gp
Medium Ring: 27,858 gp
Major Ring: 69,768 gp
For armor, shields, and weapons, a gambled item has an enhnacement bonus and one or more special effects.

An short interview with an NPC opponent:
Interviewer: So... How long have you been doing this?
Hexfire: About 100 years, give or take. Might be one of the last though -- starting to get bored.
I: What's your strategy?
H: Strategy? If I used strategy I'd be serious about this!
I: What's your weapon of choice?
H: up front or ranged?
I: Front
H: Scimitars, they're just funny looking really
I: And how many do you keep on you in the ring?
H: 9
I: Do you break a lot of them?
H: No, that's how many I use
I: At once???
H: *yawn* yeah.
I: H-h-how *clears throat*, how long does the average opponent last against you?
H: Something less than a minute.
I: Damn, I'm outta here!!!
H: Hey I ain't fighting you! Ugh, think I'll have a drink.
