Vanguard is a GURPS Supers game in a world where metahumans are unknown. The players will be the setting's first metahumans, normal people suddenly gifted with strange and unusual powers. Players will form a team of superhumans, protecting the innocent, dealing with other superhumans when they manifest, and be instant celebrities. The game will be run in GURPS. Inspired by team comic books like Avengers, X-Men, Doom Patrol, the Authority, Gen-13, DV8 and other comics like Powers and Kingdom Come, and the Wild Cards series of books.
Character creation rules are simple. Make your non-cinematic 50 to 150 point base-character, max 50 points worth of disadvantages. At some point early in the game you'll have your origin and be given GM-discerned powers, some of which will be obvious, some of which you'll only notice as time goes on. The more points you spend on your base characters, the less will be provided to you in the form of powers.
The powers chosen will be based on character background and personality profiles, though not directly. How you roleplay before you get your powers will strongly factor into what they are.
The only other way to influence what powers your character receives is to post a character portrait (from anywhere) and a personal theme song. I'll look at the picture while listening to the music while I come up with your powers.
The game is going to be played in GURPS, and few if any characters are going to be immune to small arms fire. While I wouldn't call the game gritty, it's going to be far from 4-color. Depending on how you guys choose to act, there can be a pretty high rate of attrition, so new characters and teammates will be added as time goes by.
This is another character driven game, and the exact way it goes is more up to you than to me. Play opens in the small town of DeKalb, Illinois (bearing little resemblance to the actual DeKalb). You'll all be juniors/seniors in the same high school, all know each other, and all more or less get along.
While this is a superhero game (and I will be using some stuff from GURPS Supers. The wildcard skills, not so much - although you might get such hyper-proficiency as a power) I don't mind a degree of moral ambiguity. No psychos, please.
Initial play will involve acclimation to the powers and focus on what its like to suddenly gain them, mixed in with standard supers stuff.
So. Post your character background and GURPS character sheet. Include picture and theme song if you'd like. I'm looking for 4 to 6 players.
