Curious if anyone has any interest in this world. Based off Terry Brooks' novels. Probably held during the height of the Federations power, starting in the Southland, limited to Human, Dwarf, and half elf; possibly elf as well. Races have some minor modifications, nothing major. Also some restricted and changed classes, no paladins, no monks, no wizards or sorcerers, but a "mage" class that gets the spells of a sorcerer, but the feats of a wizard. Yes this sounds powerful at first, till you realize I will strictly enforcing magic component rules, and use of magic is highly illegal penalty is death. Starting at 1st level, VERY low magic game. Will be inserting alchemical and herbal healings, Will adjusts the DRs of monsters as need be, mostly fighting NPC’s and magical beasts. The world is in the FAR future of our current so will be introducing a few rare "modern" day devices, most do not work, but give flavor. If interested and have read some of the books let me know. Then if I get the interest I will flush out the idea.

G'day... a copy of the reply I made at the 3EBB, just in case you miss that one... :fun:

Sounds interesting. I've got the quartet of books featuring Par, Col, and the Federation, as well as the 'Journey of the Jerle Shannara' books, so I know the Four Lands fairly well, particularly the time period you describe, and I'd be interested in playing in a Shannara game.

Will start work on a character concept.
Cheers,
Azyr.

I actually haven't gotten to the Jerle books yet, waiting to get them in used paperback at the book store:-) Thinking 1st level as I said. I will allow gnomes under one specific condition, they are healers from Storlock, and have some levels of cleric or wizards. IE they can be outcasts.

More likely to be a human, one of the Free men fighting against the Federation. Probably a rogue, spying/recruiting in a major city. Tyrsis, maybe?

How does that sound?

Oh yeah - have you got any particular favorite char-generation method? Is 4d6 six times okay?

I use point buy, significantly more fair, and keeps the party balanced. 3e was about class balance, but keepign the sacred goat of rolling stats randomly can really make one PC much strong then others. I would say make it a smaller city like Kern, Varfleet, or Leah, as a level 1 rogue in Tyrsis with there gaurds is likely to get caught... O nevermind the open scene is all the PCs in prison.

BTW do not bother with starting equipment, just clothing. Being arrested and stripped of goods means no weapons etc. You will be getting basic goods when you escape but part of the challenge is adventuring without items.
SKills will be VERY important in this game, all interactions will be figured out by skill checks, yes what you say in your posts will alter the DC and the modifiers, often dramically but still the rolls decide the responses of the NPC. There are a few minor house rules, IE Skill focus is +3 not +2.

That's standard 25 pt buy, I assume?

And the character I have in mind is a very... social rogue. High Cha, lots of interaction skills, so that's cool...

Fine. A little lower than I'm used to, but fine. A low-powered campaign'll be a refreshing change.

Any interest from anyone apart from yours truly? I'm beginning to feel a little ostracised here... ;)

Aha... makes more sense now... ;)

oh yeah - you said we'd be starting in prison. any idea which city it'll be in? for the character background. He's a herbalist's apprentice whose brother is in the Freeborn Movement, and he spies for the rebels.

i guess he could have been found out and thrown in gaol for that?

cheers.
