On the 25th of January Online-Roleplaying and its beloved owner LeeCHeSSS had a birthday and to celebrate 5 years of success LeeCHeSSS has given us all a present. Online-Roleplaying has been upgraded!

This means new features, new buttons, and quite possibly new bugs. As with all upgrades there are bound to be some hiccups that need to be worked out, so I'd like to ask everyone to keep an eye out for anything strange that happens and report them to a member of Team Admin so it can be fixed.

Second piece of news is that we're going to start out the 6th year by doing a cleaning of the forums. A team of highly trained drunken monkeys are going to search the forums to remove games that have become inactive, so if you find monkey poop and empty whiskey bottles scattered around you'll know why.

Finally some of you might be interested to know that we updated the rules (http://online-roleplaying.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8) in relation to signatures in ways that can be both good and bad depending on how you look at it. In short, we've decided to allow people to use images much bigger then the previous 100*50 limit, but we've also placed a vague restriction on the amount of text allowed.

All hail our glorious site owner!

On a side note, what does the http://online-roleplaying.com/forums/images/buttons/infraction.gif button do and what is the proper use for it?

It's a new feature called Infractions which basically is a system that has been coded for when people break the rules. At this point I'd suggest no one click it.

I spend a single day attemtping to salvage something out of my rapidly dying computer and exciting adventures take place online. Well I never.

It appears the sneaky admins do not have this "you suck I hate you" button.

Foul play!!

Also, the "multiple quote" button seems oddly large and not in tune with the other buttons that the board has.

BUT!!
It seems nice.

New things are better.

Always!!

My "A Series of Unfortunate Adventures" game has been officially dead and retired since July. Let the monkeys know.

The monkeys know which games are dead.

zachol

That totally does not include any of my games and I'm not joking.

The games who are dead haven't had play in more than three months. Go figure.

Is one of the new features not having the text in quick reply scroll up everytime you update it with a formatting button? Mine always did that but it suddenly stopped.

If it is, I have fallen in love.

Oooh, I hadn't noticed that it stopped doing that. Excellent!

[...]Also, the "multiple quote" button seems oddly large and not in tune with the other buttons that the board has.[...]Obviously, we haven't got one that fits in our design, because at the time the design was made the button wasn't needed :)

Uh-duuuh. ;) I figured that much out.

Where did we get this design, anyway?

I'll answer that with a quote (see the bottom of every page):
Graphics by Koert van Kleef (T0N!C (http://online-roleplaying.com/forums/member.php?u=107)) and Lyle Warren

zachol

...alright, I'll rephrase that.

I know that the site design was done by a dude called Koert van Kleef and his pal Lyle Warren.
However, do we know these people well, and can we hit them up for a new button or two now that we messed with things?

LeeCHeSSS
30th of January, 2007, 00:50
Actually, Koert is one of my best friends. Neither of us actually knows Lyle Warren (I just used his smilies and gave him credit for it).

I will be asking Koert to create a new image yes, but I can't help but leave you with a lingering suspicion about an upcoming new design...

...hmm.

That sounds.... suspicious.

Does this mean the Cult forum is also getting cleaned away? I know it's been declared over by the GM, but it'll still be sad to see it go (even if I know it's just into archive-space). ._.

Also, MisterBlaze's games are declared done too, sadly, even if they've been recently active too. The perils of becoming a daddy!

I'll be looking over the new features for a bit; that's always a fun game to find what's new.

LeeCHeSSS

If you want a game to be archived, get the GM to request that here (or if you can't contact him/her anymore, a fellow player in that game).

I want that game archived. It's the Cult, we need to keep it as a memory.

I recall something being mentioned, but can't find it now, about an option to have the forums one wants to watch moved up right under the Public Commonness. So, say, I could make TreyKincaide's Games show up next instead of Aavarius' Games. Has that been implemented, or is it a bit of coding that isn't possible at the moment?

itches
30th of January, 2007, 11:27
That is on the To-Do list but hasn't been done. All we have right now is the ability to minimise forums you don't want to watch.

Which is almost as good, methinks.

Wait, how long has that been around?

A fairly long time, my roommate has been using it for over a year, if I recall.

LynMars

A long while. I think at least as long as I've been playing here. Really handy as "Wired*Nun" is pretty far down the list.

zachol

Meh, I just use the CP thing all the time.

I think I go to the main page... about once a week, to check up on the random babble sections and the new game announcements.

I usually simply use the New Posts feature. This came in handy especially when I was in a dozen active games.

LynMars

I tried using subscriptions back when the Cult first started and was in full swing...y'know, when we were making a dozen posts daily. That became unnecessary. I may be able to do it now, but I like checking the main forum list often to peek at Public Commonness and occasionally other games.

In regards to MisterBlaze's games can you give me a week or two to copy stuff? MB's asked me to save stuff in case he can get the games back up and running - admittedly not for a few months (till after the baby's born) and admittedly it might not be here, but he wants it just in case.

Thanks!

If you want to save it, I suggest you use the search-engine-friendly version: http://online-roleplaying.com/forums/archive/index.php

I can also archive them if you want.
