So I'm addicted to World of Warcraft, is anyone else? If so, what servers do you play on? I had to restart my account to due issues with my little brother over ownership and now I'm back in full WoW playing action and I need a guild. If we have enough people we could probablly make an ORP WoW guild, so what'dya say?

TreyKincaide, Lans, and I all play on Shadow Council. We're in 2 separate guilds, but still manage to play together at times (I snagged Lans into my guild). I play mostly Alliance since that's what most of my RL and online friends play, though I do have a couple Horde characters.

Lirriel - 61 Human Priest
Camyra - 44 Human Mage
Vyana - 12 Draenei Paladin

Cordanna - 34 Tauren Hunter
Kystra - 8 Blood Elf Rogue

EDIT: I have a lowbie Human Mage on Kirin Tor, too, for those times SC is down, but I mess with her rarely.

Also, for those who like trying to roleplay on WoW (once you leave lowbie areas anyway; Goldshire "RP" still gives me nightmares), I highly recommend the FlagRSP2 mod (http://wow.curse-gaming.com/en/files/details/3694/flagrsp2/). It's handy for adding titles, different first names, and last names, as well as brief physical descriptions, etc, that go beyond the standard toon designs. Only other FlagRSP users (and if the other RP mod is up since 2.0, that should show too, I believe) can see the extended tooltip and pop-up description.

A lot of guilds will have RP forums too, for stories and forum RPing together--if you're on a RP server, anyway, and not all guilds even there are RP based.

Other mods I use include CT_RaidAssist, Titan Panel, Healing Estimator for my priest and pally, Healpoints for my healer gear, Drathal's HUD, KTM Threatmeter, Atlas, Cryolysis on my mage, and my guild requires Group Calendar. I think that's all. They can all be found at the same site I linked the RP mod on. Curse is definately one of the better mod sites...when the site's working, it doesn't always want to for me, it seems.

Cool! How do you get the Mod's to work, do you just download them and they install? I haven't used them before.

And I'll check out Shadow Council and try and put a character there (probablly Human Pally), but I've been trying to get a main on Draenor since my friends 60 is on it and he'll give me free stuff. Yes I am lame.

You place the folders into C: \Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns or whatever your directory is. Once in the game a button in the bottom left of the character selection screen will show up named "addons". You can enable/disable from there. It's pretty simple.

Luckily for me I ended my WoWcrack addiction not too long ago. I now spend my time playing BF2142, though WoW had some awesome moments. 60 priest here, human and undead.

I quit a few months ago, thank god. Otherwise I'd probably be out of school and not just on academic probation.

I dodged that and picked up a Spring addiction. But one of the first times I offended somebody on ORP was over a WoW joke. It is addictive. We lost a admin to it, if I recall.

I play WoW, but I must be one of these wierd WoW players who can pick it up or leave it at will. I can see how it can get addictive for people, as it's a brilliant, beautiful game and setting - I'm just lucky that I don't have an addictive personality over much.

I'm on Proudmoore mostly, but might come visit Shadow Council if there are others there too. Deleted most of my characters (most of them were Alliance, and I don't particularly like most Alliance players or their attitudes towards the game - boorish teens with no social skills or brain cells between them to speak of), and have a Blood Elf Warlock 19 now. Might try a Dranei at some stage, when my 'lock gets better.

Yeah, I was on-and-off for awhile; it really "helps" one play more if you have folks to lay with, as it is a fairly social game. My time is more sporadic now again cuz of school and this semester being rather hectic already.

As for the mods, yeah; once unzipped orwhatever needs done for them, they go into the addons folders in the WoW prog file directory. There's also an addons button in the ingame menu now too it seems, which is handy. Many also have instructions in read me files if they require more. They end up being almost as addictive as the game itself, and when some patches make them not work (you can almost always get an "out of date" addon to work again after a patch without redownloading a newer version for awhile) you have to update them. But one of the things people love about WoW is the ability to customize the interface however one wants, which no other game really offers.

As for Alliance players and immaturity, I actually had more problems with dumbbunny teens bothering my Tauren than my Human (all my toons are female) when I was trying to do stuff. Everytime I make a character, the first thing I do is turn off /general and /yell chats (NPC plot-related yells still come through, so it just lets me ignore idiot players). My guild is strictly 18+ only. The only way we have "Jr members" is if they have a parent or other responsible adult from RL in the guild already. The guild leader puts up with no drama; we're just playing to have fun, and with low requirements to accomodate multiple RL schedules, it works for a lot of people who casually play. I likes it. It's a huge online system, so there're going to be morons filtering in, but there are plenty of ways to minimize exposure.

And yeah, ORP did lose an Admin to WoW back in the day. Forums were left unmade, and the masses cried. BRR was made an Admin and they tried to use the auto-request system that never quite worked right. It was madness!

*nods* Yeah, you do get idiot players Hordeside, but for the most part, I find them to be a lot more tolerable than Alliance players. I had a female night elf rogue at one stage, forever getting stupid messages from people to "take it off and dance".

I used to be a part of a guild, but it died because of a major in game rift that opened up when an officer's friend decided to make an ass of himself and got himself kicked. Said officer kicked up a stink and left, taking a dozen or so members with him. Was complete chaos. I disappeared from the guild in the frenzy and haven't joined a guild since.

Might join a guild I've had eyes on joining for a while now at some stage once my computer stops having its hard lock problems *le sigh* Stupid graphics card deciding it would choose now to screw up.

Just to be a dissenter: no, I don't play. I gave it a shot during a free trial and, while it had some neat aspects, I just don't find it to be that great. Perhaps it's a clash of style.

In fact, I believe I ended up entertaining myself by finding all the various amusing ways to off my character. My favorite was plunging out of a tree and impacting the ground between two people holding a conversation. They didn't miss a beat.

Yeah, I played a lot of Everquest when I was a teen. Not doing that crap anymore. But I love everything that Blizzard has ever put out, and I'm sure it's a great game. I just know from experience that I am the sort of person who will drop all worldly responsibilities if given an outlet like this, and I have been acquiring new responsibilities like they're a hobby for a while now.

But one of the things people love about WoW is the ability to customize the interface however one wants, which no other game really offers.

Guild Wars offers the customizable interface as well and was a nice spin-off of the diablo type of game with a nice 3D enviroment. It has its drawbacks as well though, like the limited-use skill system. It's not everyone's cup of tea, I stopped playing, and can be as addictive as WoW.

I haven't had a chance to check out WoW yet, besides seeing a friend show his characters off to me. I'm just a poor bastard and can't see paying the monthly fee. Guild Wars is free and it hit the market before WoW.

Just my 2 cents...

Interestingly enough, this might define differing tastes. I've tried both of them and have found Guild Wars to be far more enjoyable due to its more casual-friendly feel. I can reallocate my skill points between expeditions and sample everything each class has to offer as I see fit. I even like the tough choices the limited skill bar presents.

Is it the end-all, be-all of games? Nah, but I rarely feel like there's a time-sink involved, and that's important to me.

LynMars

With the expansion, WoW's trying in some ways to move away from that "time-sink" feeling. The new instances are a lot shorter, old raids have been made smaller (25 instead of 40 man), and the pvp rewards are easier to get. Somewhere they realized not everyone wanted to dedicate hours a day to raiding guilds or endless pvp to not only gain rank, but keep what you had earned (or it backslid) just to get good gear.

I've heard good things about Guild Wars, but haven't tried it. Did try City of Villians briefly, but couldn't get into it. The D&D MMO left me unimpressed. I had WoW first and kinda stuck with it on and off when I have time and inclination.

I'm busy enough anyway, and have just enough vices for it. I've been managing to balance freetime activities, socialization, and school quite well for awhile now, rather than letting any one thing dominate it. WoW, Gaming Guardian IRC & forums, and ORP generally keep me entertained enough.

Yeah I tried City of Heroes first then went on to City of Villans, was sorridly disappointed. You just can't make spiderman on that thing .

WoW then killed my soul and revived it under it's control. Now I have a level 5 Orc Warrior on Draenor if anyone cares to know :) (and it only took an hour whoha!).

I like Guild Wars, especially since it does rely very heavily on strategy and getting the right pieces for your skillset. The place it does fall down in my opinion is that the non-town/outpost areas are all instanced, and not everyone has the inclination to go around questing with you. Also, most players on there have very limited definitions of what the professions can do, so if you want to try something completely different, then you pretty much have to always be telling people "I'm a Smiting monk, not a healing one!" otherwise they get narky.

I play both WoW and Guild Wars, and they both have their good points and bad points, in my opinion.

elmer_jok

Guild wars did offer alot of enjoyment in my opinion, don't get me wrong - I like it... but it just got old after awhile. Besides, all my buddies got bored with the questing and got into rushing and farming (something I hoped was abolished with diablo2) and I lagged behind because I wouldn't play 8 hours a day. And like you said Kahluah, people have very limited definitions of what is an acceptable character build. My hammer fighter kicked ass, but they said hammer warriors were stupid unless they were Fighter/Elementalist with good earth skills. I was a Fighter/Monk. I never fit in... boo hoo. I never got into many of the other classes as much and lost interest completely when they added the expansion. I had a problem with the limited skill thing too, didn't think it was fair to have 150+ skills and only be able to use 8. The strategy involved and the artwork though, top notch.

ok, so 4 cents...

I'm mainly a Proudmoore alliance guy.

Although, I've had the thing for... 14 or 15 months now.
My highest alt is... level 18.

Also, he has things that traditionally expire in 24 hours from about a year ago.
Like those little coins.

Yeah, I don't play that much.

You guys have fun running around on the ground, bashing each other with hammers. I play with multiple tons of titanium armor, high-yield explosive warheads, and faster-than-light ship chases.

I play EVE.

In all seriousness, one of my main turn-off points to a game like WoW was that I don't have multiple hours a day to play a game, to grind and all that. With EVE, the skills are trained in real-time. And, being a theatre technician, my work schedule is... Sporadic. I can go weeks without any work, and then it's utter pandemonium with 48 hour days (Yes, it can happen). Eve fits in. If I'm not going to be logged for while, I just set a multiple-day skill to train. That way, I never have to loose out because I can't play for a couple days. Sure, I don't get the cashey monies, but that's what a sugar-daddy corp that manufactures everything is for. Also, the community is very helpful to noobs. The game can be daunting at first, but there's an entire channel just for asking questions, and getting them answered. The horror stories I've heard from WoW about noob abuse is also pretty scary.

Oh yeah, I'm back on the WoW crack. Level 33 Undead Rogue named Grimvengence on Draenor and I shall probably make a new character on Alliance (for the Paladin, I don't have the expansion yet) but not sure what server to make it on.

My subscription(sp?) ran out yesterday, and I can't really afford it right now....I never did really get addicted, but I enjoyed myself.

Now my game of choice is Battlefield 2. Fun game, especially for someone who likes FPS games. I usually don't, but have plenty of fun. I only have the Special Forces Expansion, and haven't tryed 2142 yet. *laughs* I only actually have BF2 because a friend got it for me, and now he's addicted to WoW.

Stupid WoWcrack...

2142 > 2. Getting raped over and over by planes FTL.

2142 seems better balanced. The maps are more bland, though.
