View Full Version : Is the Hazing Ceremony Optional?

This seems the best place to put my first post. :worry:
I'd really prefer to wait for a new game to start up before posting in earnest (other than the out-of-game threads); never have been really keen on jumping into the middle of a game.
It seems like most of the games here are D&D; are any other systems in use -- or, for that matter, frowned upon?
For the curious, I have the information on the following games, and can play or GM any of them:
D&D (3rd Edition, natch), with a LOT of FR stuff
AD&D (2nd Edition), though I'm somewhat disillusioned about it now
Shadowrun (3rd edition)
Immortal: the Invisible War
Champions/Hero (4th edition)
I have some scattered books from other systems (Rolemaster, f'rinstance), but not enough IMO to run a game with.
With all that said, wish me welcome! (Or whatever passes for such in your part of the world.)

Welcome, and a crash course on board eddicate.
1) We only play D&D, anyone attempting to play anything else will be laughed at untill they run away crying
2) It is Manditory that you join the "We Hate Lechesss" club
3) Ignore everthing Itches says. Most of it doesnt make sense, and that which does, will be pure bull shit
Have fun ;)

Welcome indeed my good man. I'm Setzer, the FF6-obsessed bard with a bad rap at 3EBB.
FYI I never could find much non-D&D stuff in the stores (Except for Wheel of Time), which may be why nobody uses it here. If you wanna start something out of the ordinary, I'm game if you can supply the info.

Welcome welcome welcome!
I'd actually be interested in a Heros/Champ's game... course haven't played in years, don't have my old books (let alone bought the new one)... But I'd be up for one!

Yeah, I had a feeling that starting with a topic that implied togas and wooden paddles would get a response.
Well, now that introductions have been made, and I've actually displayed a broader gaming library that the rest (and I'm NOT going to list all the White Wolf books my fiancee has -- I don't do APGs*), time to look into joining a game or three.
With that segue out of the way, what games are starting up, that need a warm (?) body?
* APG = Angst-Playing Game; any RPG that focuses more on the misery of the characters' plight (previous, current, or future), with no hope of actually getting out of it, than anything else -- also, any RPG system that, as published in the core rules, is really unplayable without spending hundreds of clams on splatbooks.

I don't do APGs
No endless Mirsery!!?? Then i warn you now, the Free form game isn' exactly full of misery. Only about 50% full :yum:
2 depressed people showing no sign of recovery. ! complete idiot. and a nun ... you know i realy must think up something to say about Maeko.
Now the bard campain. Thats one that is full of misery. Just wait untill they find out that they hooked up with a suicide cult, and the Stew was poisioned!!
Mwahahahaha
To bad you all made your fortitude saves, that could of been fun.

1" think good enough? Oak, pine or mahogany? The pine tends to spliter we may with to use the Oak, much stronger. Who brought the gag so we don't wake the neighbors?

Itches, when you come up with something to say about Maeko, let me know. ;)
BTW, what is an 'hazing ceremony'?
itches
2nd of August, 2002, 19:56
A 'hazing ceremony' is an initiation Rite, into a select group. Usualy these rites are quasi-sexual in nature i.e. Spanking. I could go into more depth about the reason for them to have these sexualy over tones - and sometime they are just out right sexual - but i dont think this is neither the time nor the place to get into it .... okay I'm too lazy.
One thing to note, is there has been a "shoking exposure" of hazing ceremony in The Austrlian Armed Forced over the last few years. If your Australian you should remember it. If you not, well your loss.

Sorry, I'm Italian..., may you forgive me? ;)
Although I remember something about the USA Marines on this subject, but I heard it called 'initiation ceremonies', that's why I did not connect the two.

Yes Initiation rites, or "hazing" rituals are common among the armed forces the world over. Again I could go into a detailed response for why I think that is, but once again I’m too lazy ;). Plus the rules for this place prohibit talking about political and religious matters, which this borders on, so best to let sleeping dogs lie.
As to forgiving you? Well, okay, but only because its you

i take umbrage at the contention that White Wolf campaigns are angst-ridden exercises in demoralizing ones players. why, right now i'm running a Mage: the Ascension game on this very site <plug> Mercury Ascending</plug>, and, along with the four best players you'll find anywhere, i'm having a great time.
and, while the characters fight for their own sanity, come to terms with an ultimately pointless and destined-to-fail coexistance between rival factions, and suffer through 120 degree F weather, they don't whine about it... too much.
now go charge that orc with your +1 keen shocking rapier, take his pie, put the pie in that hole it goes in, and shut it. :fun:

Point taken -- at least the first one. :fun:
Mage is possibly the only exception that I'm aware of, mainly because most of the problems the game foists on the characters are either something they have SOME control of, or things they've brought onto themselves.
