In the absense of any other input from those around Nicos and Blarth I'm going to propose the following:
We wait for the introduction between Shade and Juni to play out. At that point either myself or itches post the arrival of Blarth and Nicos in Tradeholm with enough vaguery to the accompying text as to leave open the question as to who exactly came with them. I propose that the arrival post has Blarth and Nicos showing up at the right tavern, Nicos having made the necessary inquiries to have found out that a woman answering Shade's description was in the area (go Gather Information).
At some later point, when their players show back up, Cadrius and Ben can show up in Tradeholm, either having been with Blarth and Nicos all along, or having decided not to go, only to change their minds some short time later and followed along a day or so behind.

Gralhruk
21st of April, 2006, 04:20
Excellent idea BP.
I've hashed some of this out with Kel, and here are the tenative plans for the near future:
Shade will depart and meet back up with Skathros
At some point, she'll find out that Skathros is going to double cross Juni, and turn her over to the other (more powerful) guild so he can curry some favor.
Shade will help Juni get away from Skathros' crew, but she can't get out of the city.
At that point, I'd like Shade to meet up with Nicos, Blarth and whoever else happens to be along and convince them to take care of Juni while she is holed up somewhere.
Black Plauge
21st of April, 2006, 06:10
So you'd prefer that Blarth and Nicos not find Shade right away, but spend some time looking for her? That'd work. I still think Blarth and Nicos should just happen to show up at the right tavern, but Shade should see them before they see her and make herself scarce.

'The right tavern' being the one the Shade is staying at? Or the one she is at now?
Black Plauge

Either of those would work. Just so long as Shade has the opportunity to see Blarth and Nicos and realize they followed her to Tradeholm.
Gralhruk

Yeah, I like the sound of that. And yes, I say either one. Whichever seems to make sense when you are actually writing the posts is fine.

Tavern description is up. I tried to give the barkeep an accent and a fairly thick one at that, but its kind of hard to figure out eactly how to transliterate that. Especially since I've no idea exactly what kind of accent I'm shooting for.
Kelemyn
26th of April, 2006, 11:05
The accent comes across very well I think, although it might be difficult if there was a lot more of it to read. :)
I know that I have read books where the author has done a very good job of portraying a character with an accent or distinctive way of talking. But every time I try to write for a character with an accent myself I can't figure out how best to proceed. It seems easy but never is. I wonder if there's a web site out there somewhere with some tips on the subject.

It just occured to me that there might be an OOC reason for Blarth to not wear the armour. Should I edit my post?
Black Plauge
2nd of May, 2006, 01:04
I was kind of thinking the same thing, though I didn't know what to do about it yet. I've already speced out the armor as +2 banded mail. No one else in the game has anything near that in power, and Blarth also has a couple of other magical items that he inheritated from his brother and is using (a ring of deflection and +2 greatclub). It was my intention when Blarth aquired those items, that they would be it for quite some time, if not forever.
As a result of his other items and his psionics, Blarth is already the most "magical" character in the group. If he starts wearing the armor too it's just going to get worse. Do the rest of you have a problem with that? I can tell you that barring destruction of these items, Blarth will never get rid of them. They're all family heirlooms. By the same token, however, we've set up a really low magic world. The best item anyone else has is Shade's adamantine shortsword.
itches
2nd of May, 2006, 01:09
You could tweak the item slightly. Say that it has the potential to be +2 armour but Blarth doesn't know how to activate it yet. Once we reach a higher level, he can discover how to bring the magic out. Or something.
Gralhruk
2nd of May, 2006, 01:18
For me the question is: do you want Blarth to wear his brother's armor or not?
If the answer is no, then we need to come up with some use for it that will both remove it from play and satisfy Blarth's sense of obligation to it.
If the answer is yes, then I say keep it. You can do what itches suggests about limiting its power for now, or you can change the properties to something more in line with what you think the power level should be.

Black Plauge
3rd of May, 2006, 05:13
From a roleplaying standpoint I don't have a problem with Blarth wearing the armor. It's a family heirloom and definately something that he wants to keep.
From a mechanical standpoint I do have a problem. It's heavy armor, which means that Blarth is not proficent with it and will lose some of his Barbarian class benefits while wearing it.
Gralhruk
3rd of May, 2006, 05:18
If it were me, I'd opt to find a plausible reason to get rid of it. The question is, who would Blarth entrust such a gift to? I think it would need to be someone who needed it and also someone who Blarth trusted would bestow upon it the honor it deserves.
Paladin is a good choice, except I seem to remember that he has been corrupted beyond redemption. It might be a nice little plot arc to redeem Paladin and somehow save him with Trak's armor.

8th of May, 2006, 10:18
Did the armour question shock the game into death?
If you don't want Blarth to wear it and don't have anyone else to give it to, you could just have it be stolen?
Black Plauge
9th of May, 2006, 00:13

Black Plauge
11th of May, 2006, 03:50
Okay, my idea is to incorporate the "loss" of the armor into whatever solo encounter I cook up for Blarth when he's out shopping. Said encounter will now definately allude to the upcoming orc war plot point. For now we just need to play out the interaction between Nicos and Blarth before they head out on their errands.
Unless of course, Cadrius wants to die and be reincarnated as an orc?;)

This one is the place where she is staying, and it is not a guild hangout.
But now that I think of it, she isn't really staying at an inn. It's a little second floor apartment she rented. I'll say that this is the closest inn to it. And she went here to get some breakfast, not to get drunk. She's already drunk.

Well I'm going to go to sleep and see if my powerful subconscious can come up with a solution.
Gralhruk
12th of May, 2006, 05:29
Alright, I've been thinking about it.
I edited my last post to give the inn a name (The Traveller's Wineskin) and also to establish the fact that Shade isn't renting a room there - it is just the closest inn to her apartment. Let's say that it is simply the first inn in the thieves' quarter of the city and it sits right by the main road from the gates, thereby making it a logical place for those looking for a room to stay.
In that case, I think it is at least plausible that Blarth, Nicos, and Shade would end up in some proximity to one another. How does that sound?
If you guys agree, I'll simply have Shade notice Blarth and Nicos as they pass by the common room on their way to the market. Then we can continue in the separate threads until Juni escapes.

Thanks, Gral!!
Actually she never arrived to Phoenix' Song: the temple was burned down by the emperor's army, so now there's a whole bunch of nuns looking for someplace to build a new monastery on... (at least that was my last post in a now-locked subchapter, can it be unocked, BTW?).

I've been reading all that I've missed, like the idea of 'behind the scenes' consultations about the plot, to avoid mishaps, I'll be sure to check with you all if something comes to mind for Maeko. During his travels Nicos had sought to learn a wide variety of skills, one he had an opportunity to learn was something most people called Magic. The bard didn't think of it in that sense, he wasn't able to perform any great feats of will, just a couple of small tricks that made life easier and helped him get by. They weren't things that came naturally or easily either, the larger the trick the more his body and mind tried to reject the energy it channelled.I like that explanation of a bard's magic. It really fits in with this low magic world. :)
I like the description of how Nicos healed himself, too.
itches
25th of May, 2006, 04:16
Rare magic. I struggled at first how to descrive that fact that Nicos would be using magic all the time, and finally settled upon it being an unpleasent experience. This seemed like a good opportunity to explain it more.
I like the description of how Nicos healed himself, too.
Enough to quote it (http://online-roleplaying.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2610)? :) While writing it, the effect seemed similar to a drug. There's a concept we need to investigate at some point.
Kelemyn
25th of May, 2006, 04:24
Well I meant low magic in the sense of rare magic.
I was thinking about quoting it in the PbP quote thread! And I just might get around to it later, although I think that Gral is better at that kind of thing than I am. (I'd have to introduce it somehow, and I think I stink at that.)

Itches, I've the feeling that the Bard is definitely *your* class.
itches
25th of May, 2006, 06:03
Yes, I like many of the other classes but I seem to work best with bard. May have something to do with my bard game outlasted everything else.
Also I was reading the quote and found two really bad spelling mistakes:
Once inside the bard quickly stripped off his tunic and gave his body a through once-over
thorough
the monks would sing it until they reached a surean sense of inner peace
serene
The second one isn't even a word! How did it get past spellcheck?
Kelemyn
25th of May, 2006, 06:08

Shade stumbled as the arrow hit her from behind, a line of pain pushing its way tortuously through her body. Gritting her teeth against it she glanced over at Arjuna only to find the woman standing still.
"Go," Shade gasped stumbling against the other woman and pushing her a few steps along. "Keep running!"
"Shit," Arjuna said with a sorrowful look on her face. "I've got to go."
"You ... what?"
"I'm really sorry to leave you with an arrow in your back like this, but something's come up. You know how it can get."
"What the hell are you -"
"I'll see if I can get some time free tomorrow but don't hold your breath. Either way I'll see you on Monday."
"Wait!" Shade exclaimed uselessly as the woman she had just rescued disappeared in a flash of light. Collapsing on ground already stained with her blood, the shadowy woman stared at the spot Arjuna had stood moments before in a dazed confusion.
"What?"

So... If Arjuna uses her power Clairvoyant Sense (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/psionicPowersAtoC.html#clairvoyant-sense) to see beyond the closed door, what will she see? itches? BP?
