So, after spending years thinking about running a game I'm finally going to commit to it.

It is a homebrew campaign set in The World of Aradia (http://witchmark.schtuff.com/). It is a basic sword and sorcery type world, where minor magic is not uncommon but powerful magic is dangerous. I'm still in the process of finishing up the description of the world so you'll need to bear with me a bit.

The game itself is going to be played using the FATE (http://www.faterpg.com/) rules, which is actually a specific implementation of FUDGE. The SRD for the FATE ruleset is available in PDF format for free. This is my first attempt at using the FATE rule set, so there is going to be a little bit of a learning curve.

Basically, I think FATE will be a fantastic ruleset for a PbP. And it is easy to learn, so if you've never played FATE or FUDGE before don't worry about it. I haven't either.

I have already accepted three players and we've been fooling around with character creation. You can take a look here (http://online-roleplaying.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=1011) to get an idea of where we are at. I'll probably take two or three more players, so have a look and post here if you are interested.

I'd like to try it out, though I'll admit, I've never even heard of FATE before. But I like the idea behind it; it seems quite fun. I'd like to join, if that's okay.

I'm going to hold off on making any selections until folks have had a chance to look into the game and think about what sort of character they would like to play.

I guess now is a good time to talk about what I am looking for. Basically, I'd like folks that are dependable, consistent, and are interested in writing good posts. That doesn't mean you have to be a budding novelist, just that you are going to make an effort to write interesting posts. As long as you try, that's good enough for me.

As far as posting frequency, I'm sure it will vary but I should think 3-5 posts per week is average.

For now, Kylos, I'd say have a look at the links I posted and come up with a character idea or two and we'll take it from there.

As a random aside, the fellow who did the cover art for FATE is C Wilson Trull, also known as Webtroll, the artist of Gaming Guardians (http://www.gamingguardians.com/), writer/artist of a spin-off story called "The Vial" linked there, and a good guy. In fact, I recognize some of the portraits from his old website originally listed as Amber DRPG chars, among others.

Anywho, if I can get my browser to behave and let me download the rules (it "experienced an error" and had to close), it may give me an excuse to look more closely at the rules again. I knew he did the art, but again, due to browser issues, never really got to look at the rules.

Thanks; can never get the download to want to work right for some odd reason. I'll take a look in a bit. :)

I think I'm starting to get a grasp of how the ystem works, and I'm starting to form a few character ideas. Quick question, though - where can I find information on the setting? It'd really help me flesh out the ideas I'm juggling at the moment.

The setting's in the first post.

I'm also rather intrigued by both the campaign setting and the game system. Give me a day to go over the info, I've got some good ideas rolling around.

Thanks.

Got my character idea down - I'm thinking a witchcraft-user with a dissociative identity disorder (a Jekyll-Hyde sort of thing) brought about by the taint of the magic he wields.

Yes, as Brian says, the setting is in the first post. Also, if you follow that link to the setting information I have some modified rule information, where I also try to explain FATE as I understand it.

If anyone has any question on the setting or the rules, post them here and I'll answer as best I can.

It looks like MisterBlaze and Pygysys are trying to revive the 7th Sea game. If that happens, between that, MEHSV, AoM's new Serenity game, and the ever-present loom of School, I likely won't have the time and attention to devote at the moment to yet another. Sorry, Gral. :x-eyed:

Well, I am certainly familiar with having too many games on my hands :). If you end up with free time and are still interested at some point in the future just let me know. I'm sure we'll be needing additional players somewhere along the line.

So Kylos & Brian: Any questions? Still interested? Let me know.

I'm definitely still interested. Trying to come up with another character idea right now.

Excellent. If you need anything just let me know.

Thankfully, this afternoon I'll actually have a chance to go over the details. I'm liking what I'm seeing, and the idea of multiple aspects to represent depth is rather interesting.

How would I integrate something like the "Outgunned" example in the PDF? Such as someone who liked being outnumbered in a fight, found it exciting and dangerous?

Just pick a word or phrase that matches the idea you want to convey. So, it could be something like "Good in a pinch" or "Never say die". The idea is to pick something that evokes an image of when it would be relevant.

If that makes sense.

Understandable and clear!

I'm thinking of playing a Jekulta, although I'm not sure quite what still, but the idea of an independent, maybe a buccaneer or lovable rogue, is playing on my mind. Possibilites of shapeshifting are also involved, some sort of were-thing (or just animal with human characteristics, period). Outsider to "civilized society" in terms of overall character, definitely.

In an attempt to fill in the few gaps left over in the party, I'll probably be playing a divine magic-user with a lot of craft-related stunts. (Thinking of focusing on alchemy, if it exists?)

That would be the FATE version of Eidolon.

Hmmm. We already have one shapeshifter, so I'm hesitant to put another in the same group. If you are really set on it we can probably work something out. Jekultans tend to consider themselves supremely civilized, so keep that in mind when making your outsider.

Oh, having a person who considers themself supremely civilized while being outside the system is all too easy to manage... that's what an ego is for ~_^

Alrighty then.

So far in the party we have a trader, a Heldrig Duelist, an Altaean Witch, a Ghanata Shapeshifter, a Jekultan Witch, and either a Melee or Rogue type. You can check them out in the character sub-forum here (http://online-roleplaying.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=1011).

Kylos/Brian: Are you guys ready to move forward?

I like how my character only gets a one word description, and it doesn't even start with a capital letter.

Gralhruk

Much like your name ;). Besides, you still haven't picked a culture so rather than go into the details of your own personal refusal to make a decision I opted to leave it out entirely.

It's not my fault the encyclopaedia has complicated details about the phases of the moon but doesn't go into depth about the two cultures I was thinking about.

Kylos

Sorry, been a little bit busy, but I think I can move forward now. I might need a bit of assistance making my character though.

Itches: As you know, I am available for questions.

Kylos: That is fine. Pretty much everyone has been working through the details as we do the character generation. If you are ready, post a placeholder thread in the character subforum and we can get started.
