View Full Version : "First-post-first-play" Adventures? Take a L@@K!

Howdy fellow ORP fanatics! :cat:
I've been thinking of doing a series of short unannounced adventure scenarios that are basically a "first-post-first-play" deal.

Here's my idea:
A scenario would be posted - for example, a small farming community is under attack by wolves and possibly goblin riders - and then a call to players would be issued. And the first, let's say, five players that posted would get to complete the scenario - they'd bring in their characters, post actions, and resolve the scenario.

I figure each scenario would last approximately 1-2 weeks in posting - fast and frenzied! Lots of action, time for roleplaying at the end and perhaps in between scenarios. And this type of "pick up" game wouldn't require a lot of committment from players - they could just drop in (provided they are one of the five) and play. And the players may vary for each scenario as may the characters! For example, you might get to play in the first two adventures, but that doesn't mean you have to play the same character. You could bring in a different one for each adventure you manage to get in.

These adventures would use D&D 3.5 Core rules (for now) - just to keep it simple. I wouldn't want players spending two hours rolling up a character that they might only play a few times or that might get eaten or killed off. Heh. In fact, I know some of you have one or three laying around that you could dust off in a moment's notice. Am I right, or am I right? Right? Right? Right?

I know that some of us are strapped for time and committment, and we've had several good discussions on "dead end games" lately. So, I thought that this would give us a chance to play without the pressure of a long-term committment. Something all of us fellers want out of a woman! :yum:
Er....did I type that out loud? :O

Anyway, BRR says if we get enough interest I can request a forum. So let me hear from you - thoughts, questions, suggestions, etc. I already have the first scenario worked up. Talk to me!
Peace!

I would love to, but I never have time to make another character. It takes me hours to weeks to make a level 1 (I suck). But if there is a pregen or someone else's PC floating around I can definitely get in for a fast and furious week.

You mean you don't have a dozen or so 1st - 2nd characters just lying around? :)

All you would need for this is:
Name, Race, Class
Abilities
Saves
AC, HP
Combat stats
Weapons and or Spells

You'd only need to list Skills and/or Feats that you would use in the particular scenario, which may be none, depending upon the scenario.

I should and I hope I do. I can check. Actually I can use my normal generator and come up with something relatively quick I guess. You can count me on occasion, not every week.

I'd be interested in something like this. No demand for background. No unnecessary role-playing. Should only take 20 minutes to make a character, if that. Or if you want, I can send you one of mine from my personal 'rogues gallery'. I have 4-5 back-up characters for my current IRL game we just started. We're doing a 3.0 version of Keep on the Borderlands and last time I played this module it was a blender of character death (albeit, in first edition/second edition/hybrid dnd). So far in one session (besides the character creation session) we've had 5 PC deaths. The horrible thing is that we didn't lose one person to 'monsters'. It was all internal death. The elf tried to kill the half-orc, raging half-orc kills elf, 1/2lings dog bites at raging half-orc, half-orc swings at dog, halfling swings at raging half-orc... you get the picture. Leaves us with a dead elf and a dead half-orc. Problem solved? No. One of our clerics turns on us, orders his acolytes to slay the wizard as he tries to slay other cleric, all in the middle of a battle!

1 minute later, death toll =
Evil Cleric
2 Evil acolytes
Elf
Half-Orc
+
Dozen or so goblins
Ogre

Next session is tonight, oy vay

Whoohoo! Thanks fellers - now all I gotta do is figure out how to request a forum. :)

Any little quick generator (be it PC or NPC) is all you need. In fact you don't even need that for stats - I really don't like the point buy system, although I can understand its usefulness.
I like this system better: out of six stat scores, make three of them average scores (10-11), two of them above average (13-16), and one of them exceptional (17-18), with after racial or ability adjustment no score should be over 19. The reason for this system is that I see PC's as "heroes" or at least heroes in the making. They are above average and that helps them rise up and assume the "hero" role when needed.

jok, just keep your sheets and submit them as you have opportunity; to hold them in reserve for you might be unfair to others who want to get in.

"on occasion" is great akiko! That's what I want to achieve by doing this - gives everyone a chance to play something for a limited period of time - kinda like play in a game at a convention. :)

Well, I'm gonna work on my forum request - back at you soon.
Keep the ideas and comments coming!

Just use my ability score system. I have explained it in detail over at 3ebb, and will do so again at anybody's request.

Explain please - or link us to it on 3ebb. :)

Pretty Simple, have a total ability modifier that people can add up to. For example, allow everyone to have up to +8. This means a person can have to 18's and the rest 10's / 11's. Or they can have 17 / 16 / 14 / 12 / 10 / 9. It's real quick adjustment that allows great manipulation in how you place your stats.

Meh, still too close to point buy for my tastes. I was born rolling and I'll die rolling.

Or more I started at fifteen(or wheneverI first inflicted D&D upon The Alcotroll and Elpresidente) and I'm still doing it now.

I agree - I don't want to have to think that hard about generating a character. Once I decide on a class - let's say "Fighter" to keep it simple - I already know he's gonna be strong and healthy - i.e. exceptional Strength and above average Constitution.
Everything else is just numbers - I don't want to rack my brain on making sure he has a 12 Dex so he can get a +1 on AC, you know?

Once I figure out how to request a forum, we're just gonna keep it simple...or at least I am. :)

You know, if you want you might be able to use my Odious One Shots forum. That is kinda what I erected it for.

You know, that sounds like a good idea nightinverse. Anyways, I'd be interested in playing this every now and then. I just have to pull out my low level stuff from my finite crap...
