well I am starting this campaign for 2 reasons. 1:Because I think the setting I came up with rules ass and I wouldn't get a chance to use it otherwise. And 2:Because it looks like some of the people who signed up for my last campaign lost interest(those of you that didn't don't worry it's still gonna happen). So here it is.

This campaign will be in an oriental adventures Homegrown world. All PHB, OA, and PR races are allowed(except Korobukuru, Aasimar, and Tieflings). Only the classes listed in the OA campaign setting book will be usable, but almost all prestige classes will be available (with the exception of a select few geared towards classes that will not be allowed).
As for clans all the human clans still exists except for the Lesser Mantis Clan(the reason for this will be seen later), and all of the races have there own clan with the exception of a few like gensais, assimars, and the like. The clans are as Follows.

Shield Dwarves:Wolf Clan. Shugenjas of the wolf clan are trained in the use of the Fire element. Wolf Clan Samurais can choose from the following bonus feats:Armor Proficiency(Heavy), Exotic Weapon Proficiency(Urgosh, Great Crossbow, or Bolas), Power Attack(Cleave, Great Cleave, Power Lunge, Sunder, Improved Sunder, Improved Bull Rush), Endurence, and Iron Will. The Clan colors are Grey and Silver.

Gold Dwarves:Bear Clan. Shugenjas of the wolf clan are trained in the use of the Earth Element. Bear Clan Samurai are trained in much the same way as the Samurai of the Wolf Clan and choose from the same Bonus feats. The Bear Clan colors are Gold and Dark Brown.

Dark Dwarves and Elves(Duergar and Drow):Tarantula Clan, This is a new clan that came into being near the end of Blood War, As they were helpful in fighting off the invasions from the shadowlands. Under any normal circumstances they would not have been allowed to gain the power to start a new clan. They are detested by almost all the other clans, but there has yet to be an uprising against there clan. Shugenjas of the Tarantula Clan are trained in the use of the Air element. Though they are few and far between this strange new clan does have a few that call themselves Samurai and offer tutalige to others in there ways. Samurai of the Tarantula clan can choose from the following bonus feats: Daylight Adaptaition, Blind Fight, Blind Sight 5-foot radius, Improved Initiative(Death Blow), Dirty Fighting, Combat Reflexes, Point Blank Shot(Far Shot, Precise Shot, Rapid Shot). The Tarantula Clan colors are black and dark gray.

Moon Elves:Eagle Clan. Shugenjas of the Eagle Clan are trained in the use of the Water Element. Samurai of the Eagle Clan can choose from the following bonus feats: Ambidexterity, Two Weapon Fighting(Improved Two Weapon Fighting, Off Hand Parry, Pin Shield), Exotic Weapon Proficiency(Katana), Combat Reflexes, Dodge(Mobility, Spring Attack), Expertise(Whirlwind Attack). The Clan colors are Turquoise and Green.

Sun Elves:They are also part of the Eagle Clan elves are more well united than most of the other races. The Sun Elves have there own Shugenja school that teaches the use of the Air Element.

Wood Elves:They also are part of the Eagle clan, and also have there own shugenja school which teaches the use of the Earth Element. The Wood Elves protect the outer forest rim of the Eagle Clan territories and usualy wear Brown instead of turquoise which they believe sticks out to much among th trees.

Wild Elves:Clanless. They do not take part in political affairs though many of them do live in the territory of the Eagle Clan they do not wish to become involved it what they believe to be such trivial matters.

Deep Gnomes:Clanless. The Deep gnomes live deep underground there closest neighbors are those of the Tarantula Clan. Even though they do not participate in government they are often hired by clans to spy on the Tarantula clan or to help as guides through the many subteranian tunnels and caves that lay under the many clan teritories.

Rock Gnomes:Mantis Clan. Shugenjas of the mantis clan are trained in the use of the Earth Element. Samurai of the Mantis Clan can gain the following bonus feats:Exotic Weapon Proficiency(Kama, Korobukuru Lajatang, Small Kantana), Throw Anything, Expert Tactician, Iron Will, Great Fortitude, Lightning Reflexes, Improved Initiative, Dodge(Mobility, Spring Attack), Expertise(Improved Disarm, Improved Trip, Whirlwind Attack).

Ghost Wise Halflings:Clanless. They live in many of the mountainous regions towards the shadowlands. They live to defeat all tainted creatures trying to leave the shadowlands and into the untainted world, but they perfer to stay out of the buisness of polotics holding no place in the empire.

Light Foot Halflings:Clanless. They hate conflict and would much rather live in peace of the Dakmar hills outside of the great Eagle Clan forests.

Strongheart Halflings:Ferret Clan. Shugenjas of the Ferret Clan are trained in the use of the Fire Element. Samurai of the Ferret Clan are few but take to there calling with a passion. Samurai of the Ferret clan can learn the following Bonus Feats:Alertness, Iron Will, Quick Draw, Weapon Finesse, Weapon Focus, Dodge(Mobility), Expertise, Lightning Reflexes, Combat Reflexes, Improved Initiative.

Aasimar:They can be found in any of the human clans

Tieflings:They can also be found in any of the human clans

Fire Gensai:Pheonix Clan. Fire Gensai that become Shugenjas can only train in the use of the fire element.

Earth Gensai:Crab, Dragon, Pheonix, or Scorpion Clan. Earth Gensai who become Shugenjas can only train in the use of the earth element.

Air Gensai:Crane, Pheonix, or Scorpion Clan. Air Gensai who become shugenjas may only train in the use of the air element.

Water Gensai:Lion, Pheonix, or Unicorn Clans. Water Gensai who become shugenjas may only train in the use of the water element.

Half-Elves:Most Half-Elves are welcome in both the Eagle Clan and most of The Human Clans. Though Clans like the Pheonix or Dragon clans are more likely to accept them.

Half Orcs:Welcome in human clans or among orcish tribe which have no place in government. The Crab or Unicorn clan are the most likely to accept Half Orcs.

Spirit Folk:Can be found in many human clans but are most ubundant in the Crane and Lion clans

Hengeyokai:Often live lives of solitude outside of the empire there and Hengeyokai in all of the clans.

Nezumi:Clanless. They are shunned by most of the human clans and feel too out of place among other races.

Vanara:Clanless. They are often found ad spiritual leader for communities outside the empire such as there jungle city Taarma, halflings, clanless humans, and orcs.

The Story
The Campaign is going to take place about 20 years after the Blood Wars(a violent struggle against the invading forces of the Shadowlands which had grown powerful after the emporer had been corrupted and lead the shadowlands forces). The new emporer is liked by all the clans, even suprisingly the Tarantula clan. He is the youngest emporer the great Empire has had in a long time. He is fair and just, but lacks some of the skills to solve political dissputes that most Emporers have and it's begining to show. Slowly but shurely civil disputes between clans are rising and it is feared that a civil war could break out. Council of Clans is currently coming to session and there is Rumor that the emporer plans to make a very important announcement, so everyone who is anyone and and even outside the empire is going to be there.

Thats where you guys come in(those of you that made it this far that is).
Your character should be Lv.2.
85 point 1:1 stat buy
All races acceptable except Deep Gnomes for Dark Elves and Dwarves you will use apprentice method.
No evil characters(no Chaotic Nuetral characters either if you plan of playing them like an evil character)
There will be no Starting gold I will give out equipment based on character concept, chosen feats, background, personalty, and history(don't worry I will be fair no one will be given items that make them more powerful than any other character.) You do however recieve any equipment grant to you by class(Note if your playing a small Samurai or Shugenja which both give starting equipment I have come up with stats for Small Katana and a Small Wakizashi. The small Katana functions for all purposes like a MW long sword but a small character can take Exotic weapon prof(Small Katana) to use it one handed. A small wakizashi functions as a MW Dagger except it is slashing and not piercing. So those of you for your given equipment for those classes you recieve these instead of a normal Katana or Wakizashi).
Also I will be more likely to choose characters from different clans or communities I will keep track of what characters that have been submitted are from which clans or communities below. Though with the multitude of communities and clans I have added it should not be hard to come up with something form one that has no submission.

Scorpion:
Dragon:Saint Alphanzo(Human Monk)
Pheonix:
Unicorn:
Crane:Spacker Dave(Human Shugenja"Fire")
Crab:SuperJoshP(Human Sohei)
Lion:
Wolf:
Bear:
Tarantula:
Eagle:Kaelas Deagen(Moon Elf Shugenja"Water"/Monk)
Mantis:
Ferret:
Orcish Tribes:
Ghost Wise Mountain Defenders:
Light Foot Hill Dwellers:
Nomadic Nezumi Bands:
Taarma Jungle City:Maukee(Vanara Shaman)
Independant(this is for those that don't really fit in the other catigories):Andorax(Nezumi Babarian)

well if there are any questions or you would like more background on one of the clans of communities email me at gorokan15@hotmail.com.

Thanks,
DakkonDarkBlade

I think I'll join this one instead. Since this is a homebrew campaign, can I use an odd race? In Dragon #297 there are new gensai, and I want to use a dust para-gensai. As it states there, they are morbid, having a disturbing facination with death. Neutral alignment, cold personality, and not interested in saving the lives of too many people. He sees himself as a deathwatcher, equally deadly against a lich, or just a commoner who's way past his lifespan (Don't ask how). Shaman class, death-based domains. ECL+1 (Look at gensai in FRMM). Is this ok? I think a paragensai would be a spirit creature with it's elemental heritage.

hmm I guess that would be acceptable are you planning on being from one of the clans or are you from one of the smaller clanless communities

I forgot I have changed the way shugenjas cast spells. They still require 8 hours of rest followed by 15 minutes of meditation, but now instead of writing all there spells on Ofudas they are more like sorcerors in that they know there spells innately. However an item of focus is still required but it can be anything from a guantlet to a staff but it must be used for only this purpose and for none other.

Thanks,

I've decided to go with a different character for this. If I take the sarcastic, death-ridden shaman, I'll most likely end up with him becoming evil. Since we can't have that, I'll Cover the spells a bit diffenently. So I'm going to be a Spirit Folk (Bamboo type) Sohei. I'll post the stats here in a little while.

One more thing, what do we do with hp?

DakkonDarkBlade
13th of June, 2002, 21:59
ok sounds good but word to the wise you might try submitting more than one character if your submitting a Sohei just so you have a better chance of being in the campaign cause this will be the 3rd one I've gotten.

Setzer Gabbiani
14th of June, 2002, 08:49
third sohei huh? In that case, what class has nobody tried for yet? I can fill in most any gap that way.

DakkonDarkBlade
14th of June, 2002, 21:37
No Rogue, Ranger, Sorceror, Fighter, or Wu-jen. There are Shugenjas but only 2 different element types Water and Fire you might try one of them of either Earth or Air. Also now that I think about it there are no Samurai either. Also there have been submissions of characters of the folowing races Human, Nezumi, Vanara, and Moon Elf so you might try a different race too but only a suggestion.

Thanks,
DakkonDarkBlade

Ok I understand alot of you have already come up with character concepts, but I am adding somethings to the available races and classes.

1:Nagas are now playable pending ecl adjustments for the different bloodlines. If you do not have the Rokugan Campaign setting and are interested email me and I will give you the low down.

2:All of the minor clans are available with the exception of the mantis clan. Also feel free to have ties to one of the lost clans. Again if you do not have the book on rokugan and are interested email me.

3:I am making the Courtier, Inkyo, and Ninja classes available for use. no book interested email me.

ok with that being said feel free to submit a second character or change a current character after being given this information.

Thanks,
DakkonDarkBlade
(P.S. all of the feats, spells, skills, and items found in the Rokugan Campaign Setting and Magic of Rokugan are usable in this game, but go ahead and give them a check with me just in case.)

Water is healing, and fire is attack, so you've got enough magical backup. Well, since you're in need of fighters, I'll try a naga (greensnake) samuri. I'm assuming that the ECL is +1 for a greensnake?

DakkonDarkBlade
15th of June, 2002, 09:14
no and there not here is there stat info.

+2con, +2wis, -1Cha.
Large:-1 to ac -1 to attacks.
Speed:40ft.
Immune to Taint
+2 on charisma based skills when dealing with other naga.
+2 on wilderness lore checks
-4 to animal empathy, handle animal, and ride checks
+4 skill points at level 1 only
Favored Class:Courtier

Uh.... huh. I though you meant the actual naga race, not a homebrew variety. I have OA, and that's almost completely off. Perhaps trying to fit a game into a schedule of finding a job was a bad idea. Not because of the naga thing of course (I'm not shallow), but I've found it hard to concentrate anyway.

DakkonDarkBlade
15th of June, 2002, 21:53
it's not home brew it is the official racial stats for them in the Rokugan Campaign setting which was created by the people who actualy created legend of the 5 rings where the races comes from so I think there depiction of them is a little more acurate so it's not off just not the one you thought.

I believe this game will be sweet, samurai, and ninjas are always cool. I'm Spacker Dave on 3EBB, for those that might have read about my unglued D&D campaign. This game will be sweet.

Character Background

A Hardened Ninja Nezumi from the Shadowlands. A Nomad by nature he wanders the land employing his skills for stealth to their fullest against what ever evil may cross his path.
Trained from infancy in the ways of stealth his skills developed quite quickly but he craved to be free of the cursed Shadowlands of his birth. Such an existance hardened his persona into a a rather cold being. Holding nothing back, he acts on instinct which has served him well all his life, this makes him unpredictable and rash and quick to action.

I just bought OA a few weeks ago and I'm finally through enough of it to try it out. Is there any room left?

I was planning on playing a young human fighter with dreams of becoming a Samurai.
