Possibility of discussion forums?

Ok, the title seems rather idiotic, what forums are not about discussions? :)

But what I mean is, has the idea of non-PBP forums been discussed before? Take 3ebb for example, there were several forums such as rule discussion, character development, DM discussion, and so on. I am not saying we should also port over the 3ebb forum system, but rather I am just exploring if something similiar has been proposed before (and denied), or whether or not it's possible to put this on the table.

I'm all for furthering the community, but to put it simply there is no demand right now.

If a certain genre of thread was to become overly prevalent then there would be nothing stopping us from creating a new forum to house that type of discussion.
