I do have to wonder what Gray's IC response is going to be, as well, especially after Landon starts 'splainin' some stuff...It'll be interesting, to say the least...

Sounds like an episode of "I Love Landon."

(Strong Cuban accent...) Oh Lannnndonnnn! Jou got some 'splainin to do, Landon!

IC...oh, just possibly, just something like 'I kept telling people he was my brother, but they just thought I was mad and paid no heed'.

OOC reaction: probably unrepeatable in a public forum.

Gray is not mad, crazy or unstable. She has a huge passion for life, love, and likes to let people know it. I am waiting for some unfortunate soul to tell her she is crazy in front of Heldrik. He has some particularly creative versions of hell waiting for them the next time they shadow shift ;-)

LynMars
14th of October, 2004, 13:24
Problem with that, Thanos, is she's usually the one who brings it up...

Thanos
14th of October, 2004, 13:39
But thats her option ;-)

Just Heldrik being a little protective.....

Sprog does mean kids, get, descendants... etc. :)

I know we Aussies use it, but I do forget that not all 'terms' are used the same way if at all in all 3 countries we hail from. If nothing else, it will broaden our vocabulary by a word or two once in a while. :)

LynMars
14th of October, 2004, 15:21
Least we all speak some form of English as a main language, I think (unless I'm wrong about some of you silly people); I know some folks on IRC who find it amusing that not only have they learned English well, they have forgotten some of the lesser used words and phrases in their native language, and they tend to type to their local friends as if typing to their English-speaking buddies. No worries about that here, so far, it seems.

She is, you know. Mad as a week next Wednesday.

Thanos
14th of October, 2004, 15:49
LOL, not that Heldrik will hear of it except from her.

Its like point at a kid without legs and say, "Ha you can't walk". If he makes fun of himself and does wheelies with his wheelchair thats cool.

chalice
14th of October, 2004, 15:55
Actually, I think everyone puts up heroically with Gray. She drives me nuts.

LynMars
14th of October, 2004, 15:58
But one also doesn't try to entirely pretend the difference doesn't exist at all; that strikes me as almost as bad, as some see not acknowledging it as they are not acknowledged. A careful balance, to be sure, and one of those lines in life easily blurred and mishandled. :)

chalice
14th of October, 2004, 16:08
Raevyn has said the most helpful thing yet to Gray on the subject - IE, 'it's part of you now; learn how to make it work for you'.

LynMars
14th of October, 2004, 16:15
Rae just tries to be all friendly and helpful...though occasionally it backfires...

Thanos
14th of October, 2004, 16:21

Thanos

LynMars

Must trade Rae for Landon ;-)
Hrm...Dunno...Josh wouldn't let Raevyn go alone (I as her player think I see what's going on there; Rae...will maybe eventually get it:roll: ), and she sees Kat and Roland as kinda like older siblings by now. She'd be all lost without them.

'Sides, Landon isn't part of that group anymore, so you can't use him for a trade!:fun:

Pygysys
14th of October, 2004, 17:33
And besides, Kat wouldn't let Rae go that easily. There are still many more lessons to be had!

LynMars
14th of October, 2004, 18:06
Yep, gotta get her butt kicked a few more times...And if Heldrik offered to help her with that, she'd be scared he'd break her or somethin'...Not to mention her embarassment over it, anyway; it took a lot out of her just to ask Kat!

TreyKincaide

Nyquil fits the bill for me when that happens.

Southern Comfort, lemon juice, honey and hot lemonade. Trust me, it's marvelous for a bad throat. The hot lemonade is very important - never been able to work out why, but it's much 'soothing-er' than hot water.

TreyKincaide
15th of October, 2004, 01:23
I'll have to try that sometime. My problem is a runny nose that's making me cough. My throat feels fine. Well, it seems to have calmed down a bit. Going to try to go back to bed.

'Tis indeed. I'll just have to pay more attention to the numbers I guess. And try and stop hoarding ;)

LynMars
15th of October, 2004, 04:09
Not hoarding can be hard, especially when any sort of pertinent info has been secretly shared between characters; or currently undisclosed descriptions for cards, or web links/info between players has been passed back and forth. There is an option to download PMs as various kinds of files; I found it just as easy to make a Wordpad document where any info I want to keep gets copy-pasted on so I can keep the PM box clear. Should do it for me...And it's work time. Back in a bit.

Wired*Nun

Go up to the top, and click on "My enemies have sweet voices" which is the overall place from which you can see all the forums in this particular game. You will see some subforums, and a lot of private locked forums for individual players where the GM (me) and players do private business. Under that you will see the main game threads, the most inportant ones stickied at the top. One of those stickied, probably the fifth one down, is the visitors thread.

Have a good time, Dave; breaks are good sometimes.:P I liked Van Helsing, for what it was, and thought it fun, even if no one else here thinks it a good movie and were terribly disappointed with it. Ah well.

:x-eyed: I've just spent lots of time going through old threads and mashing all the Maze/Siodmak/Fount/Trump info our group's had direct experience with into one wordpad file, mostly from my character's p.o.v.--though I did include lots of Roland's library research and his conversations with Flora, for the basic Amber info provided and since it was all dug up specifically for our group's mission, and some other tidbits here and there Rae needs to keep track of and recall. Amazing what little details and thought tangents you can forget when it's been over three months IRL, compared to the timeframe our characters have experienced; I think for Rae, it's only been about 6 days since she first talked to Vinta Bayle, a little longer or shorter for some folks cause of Shadow and when they became involved.

And it still feels like we're moving at a faster pace than I'm used to in this medium; the events in Shutter's RP, for example, are all the same day, and that's been running since February.

What other Powers has Heldrik encountered besides Maze? Trump IS the Pattern-based power that does this. When did Heldrik ever encounter Logrus? :worry: Why does he think it would be "easy?" :O Why is Heldrik suddenly becoming a whiner? :fun: Lol :tsk:

Trump and Maze are the only other powers. Trump can be based off of Maze as well so it seems to be just another power that requires some power source or base. Maze has rovers. And yes Heldrik is mentally bitching because he spend a couple of the hours the previous night looking for their quiry in a tiring way without success (not that he didn't spend some more hours looking into the storybook shadows after that, making him more tired). Top that off with the first real relaxing he has done in years and the mental attitude is ripe for a little whine.
Unless Heldrik stopped being something like a human, it would be natural to wish that things were easier. Complaining about it openly to the others would be borish, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't think it.

Beth - if you go to the "User CP" link (in orange nr the top right of the window), then choose "Edit Avatar" from the orange menu options on the left. This will take you to a window with some much less artistic piccies on it - scroll down to the bottom and paste http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v326/LynMars/avatar%20images/Samirah2.png

into the "Enter Avatar URL" box (easiest way is prob. to right click on the orange link in this post, choose "Copy Shortcut" - then you can just paste into the box), then click the "Save Changes" button - should then be done

And if it doesn't work post to let me know...I'll be on for a while yet :)

LynMars
18th of October, 2004, 04:06
Alternatively, right clicking on the image and choosing "Save picture as" to save it to your computer. Then going into the User CP, there's an option in the Avatar list to upload an image from your computer, that way if anything for some odd reason happens to my photobucket account, you'll still have the pic.

I think this too. Gray and I, though, didn't know if Landon had given it to one of the others at a later point - if it had been done 'off-camera', for example.

LynMars
18th of October, 2004, 11:52
Don't think so, though I didn't go through you guys' first thread; I went through mainly what Raevyn saw first-hand, the exception being Roland's research into family. Which reminds me, questions for Dave:

Was Rinaldo being left off the list of known family intentional? I wouldn't think so...

And, it's mentioned in Roland's research that Martin had been told of Cassandra by Deirdre, but noone had ever met her, or knew what she looked like. Later, however, She's included in the list of Trumps Flora gives Roland. Intentional for later plot point, or typo?

Thanos
18th of October, 2004, 11:54
Heldrik does not have a Trump for Flora or any Elder or even for Amber for that matter. Only has trumps for some of his cousin and not Elriss.

ewwww...good questions.

chalice
18th of October, 2004, 11:59
yeah - I was a bit surprised that Heldrik wasn't supplied with a means of contacting Amber when he reported Landon missing, as it would have been abundantly clear that without Landon our group was utterly cut off - making the 'bring Siodmak back to Amber' instruction just a tad difficult to carry out. Guessing Flora was too angry and distracted to think of it.

But Arrotel can reach Benedict for us (we hope), and thanks to Raevyn, Josh and Asmundsen, at least some of us can contact one another now...which is a way better situation than we were in before.

Re Elress - it seemed likely to Gray that she might have given a Trump of herself to Siodmak if they were in cahoots (oooh, I love that phrase) or that he might have made a sketch or Trump of her for himself...so worth searching.

LynMars
18th of October, 2004, 12:18
A Sketch made of her by Siodmak, unless he's learned Artistry, would be useless after moving through Shadow, unless you can convince him to re-imbue it. hrm, yeah, you guys are kinda lacking in the contact department, though I'd think Arrotell would have some standard cards on him, at least...

Still wondering about above questions...

Maybe the Elders sometimes treat the kids as grownups - if they don't ask for something, it could be an insult to tell them they might need it, hey? It also puts the onus on the player to play well...of course, Heldrik's refusal to have a Trump made of him runs counter to this as well...

It also puts the onus on the player to play well...of course, Heldrik's refusal to have a Trump made of him runs counter to this as well...True; Heldrik's rather paranoid about trumps so far; with what he's seen, it's little wonder...Roland had to ask for the expansive listing he received.

Thanos
18th of October, 2004, 12:40
Every week or so we have gamed so far, Trump has been used as a means of screwing somebody over and Heldrik has witnessed it (Jiakim, Landon, Siodmak). Who in their right mind wants to have that kind of personal ticking time bomb around waiting to go off? If somebody strapped a shotgun to your head and anybody could pull the trigger, you would make darn sure it wasn't loaded.

Trump = Ammo.
Badguys = Shotgun.
Trump + Badguys = no brains.

Since we all know there are badguys out there, the only way to have some brains is to not have trumps of yourself. Very logical, very tactical.

Not that Flora knew about that...as far as we know.

[gentle rebuke] Don't think it's fair to say Thanos wasn't 'playing well', - he'd been waiting to have that conversation for a long time and then had to have it in 'near summary mode' due to time constraints. An awful lot more detail would have been gone into had we gone to Amber to report as we originally intended, I suspect...

Anyway, it will be nice to show we can manage without help from Aunty Flora or any of the others:yum:

Well, sorry but, your inference was not my intended implication. Apologies to anyone who thought so. I just meant that there is an element of "oops!" in RPG. This is exactly why, for example, Rebis lost his best friend Drax in the recent confrontation - and he said so! "I forgot" something. Oops! My point, or my 'dull,' perhaps because it was apparently not a sharp point, is that there are several possibilities, ranging from IC to OOC reasons.

LynMars
18th of October, 2004, 14:18
Bad Stuff can be a good thing, and a lot of fun for some characters. One of my players tried to avoid it, but when she finally got it, had a blast; she really likes the darker, grittier side of things. Her stories are generally about the dirty, dark, grimy things, places, and people. So Bad Stuff suited her. It suited another char, too, but that might have had to do with his IC girlfriend doing terrible things, on top of the fact that he was one of those who accumulated things and Powers and it just kinda drove him mad after awhile...

I do Zero Stuff characters a lot; Karina was at Zero, as were more recent characters in the FtF I'm in now...Rae's a little different, though. I generally like Zero cause it seems just right to build a character that way, and I can lean one way or the other, deciding on a course eventually. Some characters end up Bad Stuff, some Good.

Thanos
18th of October, 2004, 14:24
The last time a character of mine had bad stuff he was stuck down in the depths of the Abyss with Brand playing with his mind (along with 2 other characters that had badstuff). Course he used a fake artifact called the Eye of the Unicorn to get us there and it sucked good stuff in the amount of 25 points from you in order to attune to it, which we all stupidly did.....what sucked for me was I had just 'bought' first in Warfare and spend all but 10 of my advancement points to do it (costs 25 above and beyond having 1.5) so I was 15 in the hole....

First and last time badstuff and a character of mine coinside.

However, I am waiting with much anticipation for Shutter to find the Keep Maze, with Jasra at its center more than wide awake and grinning maliciously at him. From the goo around the Maze will erupt a Snake headed Horse that charges Roland who slices it with Smoke as it splashed with primal energies taking him into a state of total bliss. All depends on how much good stuff or bad stuff he might have on him ;-).

I had a player take 5 badstuff early in the game (10 badstuff generally gets characters killed in my games). She hated Gerard as a player....so who goes after her character trying to have a relationship....Gerard of course. Being a Sorcerer and Shape Changer she could get away from him in interesting ways, which always proved entertaining for the entire group to watch her squirm. In the end he got half his brothers, all of his sisters, and a few player characters to set the stage for him to purpose. His engagement ring was a Spikard!

I left at that point and would not talk to her about her character until she said yes or no. It was days before she said answered, but she did say yes. I found out later that she asked every player in the game (some 11 other people) what she should do and was amazed that all of them said something like, "DUH, the guy is likely the best lay you could ever get, take the damn ring." The wedding pretty much culminated the end of the game that year so it was fitting to end on a high, yet low dirty no good GM note.

Talk about evil GMs... I've done evil stuff to my players, but never that twistedly coldhearted. I'll have to find a like to a list that I enjoy- how to be an evil overlord (215 tips).

:x-eyed: Thanos, you are a terrible, terrible man...a much needed laugh for me right now, though...

Got a phone call a bit ago from my brother. Now, he's been an idiot lately; that's a different rant I can't get into now...But anyway...My uncle is in the hospital, and may not make it the night. Jonny said Appendix at first, but when he said it was maybe half rotted away and vital to his continued existence, he realized he meant the wrong organ. Supposedly, it's his pancreas. Our parents took off for the hospital, so they weren't around to confirm.

Jimmy's 12 years younger than my Dad, one of those unexpected kids. He almost died the day he was born, and almost like clockwork for the last 40-odd years he's almost died any number of times; food or blood poisoning, too many car crashes to count, broken bones, concussions, hordes of bees/wasps, etc...You name it, Jim likely had it happen. So right now, I'm praying, talking to friends, and giving him 50/50, cause he's come close before.

He's the uncle that introduced me to the scifi/fantasy genre, and encouraged my writing when I was very young; he was the one who got stuck watching my cousins and me when we were very small and visiting Nanna and Pap-Pap. Pap died when I was 11; my Great-Grandparents are gone, and Nanna died about 2 years ago. My Dad is flipping right now, according to Jonny.

So if I drop off or become very sporadic in the next few days, It's cuz I have to go to Pennsylvania...:depry:

I refuse to comment on that.

[the below are guesses, pure and simple, but entertaining]
However, I am waiting with much anticipation for Shutter to find the Keep Maze, with Jasra at its center more than wide awake and grinning maliciously at him. From the goo around the Maze will erupt a Snake headed Horse that charges Roland who slices it with Smoke as it splashed with primal energies taking him into a state of total bliss. He will awaken from it underneath Jasra as she laughingly tells him that the seed of Amber will once again be hers to control.

Damn...Now there's an idea...I'd be surprised though...doesn't seem like Dave's style...for which I'm thankful. I get enough sex thrown in my face by pop culture, really don't need it in excess here too.

There is is- 235 or so things to keep in mind if you ever try to take over the universe. Warning- don't go there unless you want to spend a few hours reading all of them. I gurantee you'll want to, or your money back. Wait, you didn't give me any money? My point exactly.

I'm sorry about your brother- I hope he makes it this time too.

Shit...I'm really sorry to hear that. You've got my best wishes that his, Karmic sturdiness for lack of a better term, holds out. People are resilient creatures.

Luke and Merlin were both part of a breeding program, as it were, by ladies of Chaos. Was trying to think along those lines....

#147 :-)
I will classify my lieutenants in three categories: untrusted, trusted, and completely trusted. Promotion to the third category will be awarded posthumously.

Thanks for the support, gang. It's appreciated.

I read all those the other day. The Overlord list is awesome.

Yes, 147 is my favorite one too. In a few weeks after everyone has had a chance to look at these and laugh themselves out, remind me to post the Evil DM list.

Well, update from my sister, who's a nurse, so it's much more coherent:

Over the weekend, Uncle Jim (who is only 37, by the way) was very very ill. Vomiting, fever, faint, the works. Tuesday night, Aunt Barb (he lives with his sister and her family; these are Dad's siblings) called an ambulance. His heartrate was 150, blood pressure 80 over pulse. They got him to Hershey Med and had to put him on a respirator, cuz he stopped breathing, but he vomited again as they put the tubes down; apparently, it was in his lungs, leading them to fear pneumonia as a secondary...His Pancreas has failed for some reason, and it's looking like kidneys, too.

Dad and Aunt are staying at hospital, other Aunt is driving up from GA tomorrow. he's in ICU, can't get stabilized, and is never alone. They Don't Know what's wrong; they can't figure out what's causing this sudden failure. He's brushed Death a few times, but this...

Thanks for the support so far, gang.

Wow, go to bed early one night...

Lyn, I'll pass this on to Beth and she will pass it on to others to be in their thoughts and prayers.

On a game note, ask Loric sometime about seduction by Flora. At least, that's who he thought it was. Damn shapechangers. Or actually, IC, probably don't, unless you want an invitation to a duel.

Think you ought to stay away from that topic, Pygysys...Let's stick to teasing Roland for now. More fun, less slicing... ;)

Thanks, Dave. No word yet...

Nah, I'm only in this game and an email game that a friend is running for myself and my housemates.

Loric I believe is an NPC in this game who is Benedict's son... I think...

Anyway it's more fun teasing Roland. :)

My other email game seems to have sunk into a perpetual coma:depry: And just as little Challis was about to find out what the word 'Abhomination' meant, too.

Poor Roland...LOL

Anyway I'm off to bed, first day back at uni tomorrow morning since the chipped ankle. I'm chipped, not broken. ;)

Back online in about 7 hours to post before lectures, etc. if needed.

They figured out what's caused it; apparently he's one of those rare people with an odd condition where Tums he was taking for heart burn reacted badly and shut down his pancreas, or something. The specialist he initially saw thought it was a gas bubble and sent him home. Now his liver and lungs are failing. Chances are not at all good; very few miraculous cases have pulled this condition, but he's got 14 IVs in him and lots of meds, to where they know he's not in pain, or likely to remember anything if he does somehow manage to survive.

Sorry to hear about the prognosis.

We are under mortar attack. Pretty surreal, eh? I'm sitting in a hardened building listening to the bombs fall - and you all are reading this in NRT. No worries, it's safe, these are small ones. Gotta go, boss wants me.
