Works for me.
Josh has a nerve - first persuading Heldrik not to dash off to Amber, now slagging him off to Roland for not doing so;)
Wired*Nun

It's been three hours or so, which objectively is still just two minutes in Amber, but Josh is just trying to refocus everyone for the task ahead.

Ok, I edited my post slightly, and I'll go back in a moment to edit it a bit further to bring it comfortably in line with the agreed upon view of things.
Dave, do you think you could move the OOC posts over here? Or could we just delete them. More fun to have a "clean" thread. Just an idea.
...Now I also get to figure out how Roland expresses his anger at Gray for that...fun fun fun...

Yeah, I just love my character being turned into a liar by back-editing when she was being totally honest, as she thought, at the time. Sorry to disappoint, but I'm going to be deleting her earlier statement right now - she may be many things, but she is not a pointless liar, and I am not twisting her character so that she becomes one.
Get mad at her for something else - she usually throws people enough excuses;)

Gray:"Thank you. Others in Amber are already aware of Landon's loss and presumably taking whatever action they feel appropriate."
Deleted.
But it appears as aquote in the Roland message which responded, and I can't edit that

Gray: ok, I'll go edit accordingly.
As for Roland being pissed, nothing to do with editing, it's for the "I'm going to point out how you guys are being rude" part. He's not a fan of that kind of thing.

I think hiding in the corner is a good idea, although Arrotel would much rather be hiding outside at this point. He wasn't intentionally being rude- people were just debating who should talk to Asmundson, and he voluntered.
LynMars
6th of October, 2004, 18:51
The timing and manner in which he did it was poorly chosen, however; didn't earn him many cool points, I think. Ah well. It's done. But now that Arrotel's left the room, Heldrik and Roland will likely adjourn for the time being, since Kat isn't around either. Rae kinda wants to get out of there herself at this point; not much one for confronation, and she's about given up trying to keep the peace when family seems determined, if not predisposed, to infighting. :)
Wired*Nun
7th of October, 2004, 00:38
I'd like to forward the plot a bit, and get people back into smaller groups, because we end up with IC conversations ostensibly with everyone there but sometimes (like this time with Kat) when the player is not. It's just a bit unwieldly. I thought I've been dropping hints IC to try to get the groups on their way, but maybe not enough.
I'd like to see the Amber contact get started or finished, either IC or in summary, Heldrik and Roland's players should decide how. I'd like to see the Heldrik group and the Roland group go forward towards their respective lines of investigation. As some may or may not know, Trey/Landon has rejoined us and is RPing on his own, and will continue to play as far as I know. Rebis is out there to be encountered, but no hurry. I eventually foresee a minimum of three groups, maybe more, for the sake of my sanity.
chalice
7th of October, 2004, 00:51
Yay! for Trey being back around the place - 'lo, Trey!
And definitely 'yay!' to getting on with things  I won't post anything for Gray until the Amber contact is out the way, so as not to slow things down or interfere with any 'fast-forwards'.
Wired*Nun
7th of October, 2004, 00:55
I don't think posting for Gray will interfere with anything unless it involves the two leaders of the groups, so she could continue to RP other things like with Arrotel, Asmundson, or anyone else on the periphery right now...
chalice
7th of October, 2004, 01:23
OK, boss. Also wanted to add - thanks for the clear direction. I'm better with that than with IC hints - as a player it was obvious Josh was passing on GM hints, but it was hard as Gray not to react with 'what's he playing at? - first telling us to slow down, then to speed up' - never sure whether to gloss over that stuff or not. Sometime you gloss and then it comes back to bite you...;)

I would be outside so I could smoke while I'm working on a stupid XML/XSL assignment but I need to keep my laptop's battery charged up.
Oh well. If they start playing rock like the campus station is supposed to I'll survive at least until I'm done.
Gloomy foreshadowing....You had to ask didn't you? Now we're soooo screwed. The gloomy misadventures of Rebis and Landon some how doesn't sound like it'd make it to primetime.

Ok so, me, the player, has at various times in his past been an avid martial artist. Used to be video-game character good with the fancy moves, was very fun. Since then, injuries + real life = no time for fancy. I use a variety of schools, styles etc. Ok, so. The Point. I came accross this excersive for forearm strength. It is:
Fully open and fully clench your fist as rapidly as possible for thirty seconds.
So, how many times can you guys do it in thirty seconds? 'Cause holy crap is it hard! Far harder than I'd thought it would be, and I only manage to go about half the speed that the author reccomends as a starting point.
Man...work is really frustrating today...

Very dangerous  We'd have the pilot of "Landon & Rebis' Mildly Maudlin Adventures" and then we'd be back in Season One as "Arthur Holmes and His Maudlin Companions..." - assuming the networks didn't just ditch us completely in favour of the "Adventures of Arthur Holmes - Canine Sleuth" ;)

I was sure Flora gave him one of these, and that he told us he had it. Yep, here we go:
Flora's image comes in. "How are things? I have something for you. Fiona just got done making it, and I can vouch for its safety - to you - as far as I can." She hands Landon a ruby ring. "Wear this, and if you need to activate it with a strong mental command. It will emit a burst and beacon of Pattern energy, which we will interpret as a call for aid. Only use it if you can't use the usual means to contact us, or if you get into dire trouble. Don't let anyone not of the Blood wear it, I prefer you keep it on yourself." She will close the contact after any further conversation.
Soon afterwards, Arrotel asked about it and was told:
“Originally Posted by Icebird [Assuming Landon takes the ring, and isn't trying to hide it]
"Interesting trinket. Who'd it come from and what does it do?" ”As Landon slips the ring on he replies, "As it was explained to me it's a distress beacon that Fiona made. When activated, it shoots up a small flare powered by the Pattern. We're only to use it in the most direst of emergencies when all other means fail." Landon smiles and seems to be in a bit of a better mood than previously.

The answer to Thanos's question as Gray posted. Yes. However, the answer to that question isn't very useful when one takes into account the innumerable amount of things that could have happened to him.
Thanos
7th of October, 2004, 15:43
Not a fact in dispute by the player :-)
But to Heldrik if something very bad had happened to Landon, he would have expected Landon to be strong/bright enough to get the Ruby Ring to work and let people know he was in danger. Then again he might be trying to talk his way out of it still ;-) nobody knows.

Need to clarify some things, as people keep losing track of the asic layout of Jorden:
art Studio (not study) - on the second floor
Waiting room - second floor, down the hall
Dining room, kitchens, library, main hall - first floor
Josh's study - third floor
Personal rooms - third floor
fencing salle - basement, with a side open to the balcony on the cliff
Cupola - fourth floor, round observation tower
Also, since Raevyn is down on the beach with A, you may want to forward Kat to finding her (it's pretty easy, ask any of the servants or observe from the cupola).

I've noticed that it's nearly impossible to live without net access, especially now that I'm back in school; all my classes use it, as well as general school admin stuff. Heldrik and Gray are having a conversation in her room, which Chalice and I are doing by PM so that we can post it as one long post. Heldrik delt with his problems a long time ago (over a century) when it comes to his wife and friends and 'kids'. He delt with Finndo soon after he escaped as he tried to find him and soon figured out that he left his sword behind because he knew he was going to get killed. That was a few years ago...so Heldrik is cool with all that. Gray on the other hand has had 2-4 days since she found out that her family, mother, father, packmates are all dead and gone.

Is there anyone else who finds describing that short story as the "Heldrik and Gray Bedroom Scene" as slightly wrong? ;) I just thought, "well, if that couldn't be taken the wrong way...."
But I'm just being silly. :D
I used to have Rae's description linked in my signature; where Shutter and I have played before, it's curtesy to have it available for all the other players and GMs, but I don't see much need of that here at this point.
Landon and Rebis have a theme song? Moving up in the world. :)

We-ell. It's accurate in the sense that it did happen in Gray's bedroom..maybe Heldrik just had second thoughts about taking advantage of a 17-year-old...?

Except last night on the job I fell in someone's driveway (Long story) and I have broken my ankle. So now I'm swinging around the house on crutches with my right leg in a cast. Very swollen, very painful and very inconvenient.
Oh and in politics the government won by an increased majority. I am sad but saw it coming and at least, if nothing else, am a realist. My party will win at the next election in 3-4 years, as the PM will retire about a year or a year and a bit into his term of office and his second who will take over has the charm of an eel, and hence will lose the next election. :)

Thanks! I have this current cast on till the 19th and then it will be replaced with a permanent cast. The doctor seems to think that I'll probably be in a cast for 4-6 weeks. So no driving. *Cries* No work. *Cries some more* The hardest thing will be uni, as there are lectures and practicals and the like. Exams are also 5 weeks or so away, so study at least will be fun and I'll have more time for it without distraction. Not to mention more time at home on the computer for posting to the game. :)

ok oK OK
There is few ways of looking at this.....
A) Heldrik got cold feet when Gray said she was 17 and didn't want to rob the cradle consider he is 10 times older than Gray.
B) Heldrik got turned off when he figured he was going to have to break in a virgin.
C)Heldrik is just a really nice sensitive guy concerned about his young friend and companion.
Now for those of you who are thinking A or B, get your mind out of the gutter and go read C again....
Regardless, it got your attention to go read it ;-)

Pyg, sorry to hear about your injury. I am fortunate to only have broken one thing in my life, which was my right thumb joint shattered in an SCA practice, and it wasn't fun. At least we shall have the pleasure of your company more often.
And yes, I have an evil side...kind of like the Star Trek episode that split Kirk in two...just have to keep it in check. Good thing I have this outlet.

Broke my right wrist when I was six (good thing I'm a lefty); that was fun, especially as it was right before spending a week in San Antonio with my Aunt's family...and my Dad neglected to mention it before I arrived...She was not happy. I had a great time, went swimming and everything--which was really bad for the cast by the time that week was over....
Stay out of the gutter? But Thanos, it's nice and comfy and dirty down here...
And if my posts make next to no sense, it's post-LARP, and I'm wiped out; if I have to edit in the morning, I will...
And the new Landon card is done. May tweak it a bit here and there, trim it to avatar size; only stuff I'll likely notice, but whatever...I rather like it. You all don't get to see it until Dave and Jon say you can, though!

Until this injury the only thing I had ever broken was the little toe on my left foot and that was due to laziness on my part.

BTW, Asmundson does carry arround his paintings in a small folio, I think I mentioned it a while back, but in case I didn't, now I do. His paintings all tend to be about 5x8 (inches) , since he hasn't developed the tradition or precision to do card-sized Trumps.

Our internet was really intermittant yesterday, and I was bored. After doing the alternate Landon card, Asmundson card, and one other, I went back and looked at a few older ones I did and made some minor adjustments to things like hair coloring and few lines that didn't look quite right. I pretty much went back and completely re-did my own; then just flipped it to see who noticed. Gold star for Chalice!
As for Asmundson, I couldn't find any description of his colorations, so I went with a darker reddish color to be different; so many people with dark hair! Least I've gotten better at shading different tones of black...I could alter it a bit more, easily. I think I was pretty much imagining something similar to the photos there.

I didn't think it was lame either. I'd hate to be in Roland's position (or his player's).

Kat's just trying to get into character, but I do think Asmundson knows who she is. Debating whether or not to say anything about the comment, but that "spark of mischeif" I think I'll take as a teasing tone and leave it go. Rae's already shot herself in the foot once this morning just doing as she was asked; no need to make things worse when just trying to help. :)

Rae's already shot herself in the foot once this morning just doing as she was asked; no need to make things worse when just trying to help. :)Given that Kat greeted Arrotel with a 'well met, brother' on arrival, and later informed him that Siodmak was 'our brother', both times in front of Asmundsen, who is not deaf, Gray assumes this charade is not meant to deceive anyone. Her comment is teasing, but with a serious side to it if anyone wants to pay attention - namely that the pretence isn't going to be very successful if this is how well the rest of her group support Kat in her role. Have added a 'thought' to this effect to the post to clarify. (Thanks, Lyn.)

Just gotta be careful with thoughts, since they are just that, and no one else can hear them ICly, though they do help clarify a little, accentuating tone some, I think, in a way that's hard to get across in this medium. And they do add to the narrative, and a character's POV. :)

Just double checking here: Roland has no idea that Gray is a shapeshifter right? I don't think he has a clue about that, just wanted to make sure. She certainly hasn't said 'Roland, I am a shapeshifter' - it hasn't exactly come up in conversation. She shifted right in front of him when they were talking the other night, though, when she changed her aspect and eye colour - she made no effort to hide it. And she has spoken frequently of recognising people, or tracking them, by scent. She spoke to Telloth in raptor language in front of some people, while Josh and Arrotel were juggling Trumps - I can't recall if Roland was there? She has certainly referred more than once to 'packs' and other wolf-related stuff. What, if anything, Roland has worked out from this is not for me to say.

He's certainly noticed something is up with her. I don't think he's come to the shapeshifter conclusion though. Such things are a bit beyond his experience and I think he's more likely to reach for an explanation that's a little more tangible to him (some sort of druid maybe? Maybe some appearance spell?) Although, it did just occur to me that he read Lintra's book...perhaps that is enough for him to put one and one together?...hmmm...

Guys and gals,
Just something nagging in my brain ;-)
I am not sure where anybody is getting the idea that they are a Prince or Princess. As far as I know OOCly the only progeny of any king in the party is Gray (Eric was king in Amber before he died). The only others that carry the title of Prince(ss) are the Elders and Martin (Crowned Prince as his dad is the current king).
In the novels Bill Roth asks Merlin what his titles are and the only one he gives for Amber, to my recollection, is Earl of Kolvir. Somebody correct me if I am wrong though.
Pygysys
11th of October, 2004, 15:49
My men don't know that though Thanos. :) And given none of us were ICly advised of our titles (If any), it just saves a whole lot of time for Kat to say: Here's Prince Roland as this stresses the importance of the individual without having to say anything further.
Remember not all that transpires ICly is transpiring because of obvious reasons.

11th of October, 2004, 16:01
I'm with Shutter on that, as time goes on, we'll get a handle on how each of us does things.
In the meantime though, if someone isn't sure of why I have done/said something in character, feel free to ask me about it via the OOC board or PM. If it's possible to explain without putting my character at a disadvantage (Because I could be doing something sneaky!), then I will. :)
Thanos
11th of October, 2004, 16:04
I actually did a Psychology term paper on Roleplaying Game Characters and personality arch-types. I sampled 10 gamers on the campus and had them describe their favorite character that they had played and why. I had each one take one of those 30 question quizzes that identifies the 16 different arch-types and then compared what I found to what the computer concluded. It was only 45% accurate if it was looking for the persons actual arch-type. However, it was 85% effective if you factored in that people like to play what they are attracted to (ie their arch-types perfect match). The degree of the type of trait was not in question though as I was not cool enough to figure that out with a 1 page character description.
My prof said that what I did was outside the scope of what he was looking for as a project, but the implications of what I did was worth an A to him as a professional as he had never seen that approach.

I'm going to call it an early night, since not too many are on right now. See you all in the morning!

I'm going to be lazy and ask, does anyone remember Josh or Raevyn making trumps of Gray? I'm pretty sure that they did NOT take the time to make more trumps once they got into Jorden, I could look, but I'm just asking - especially Chalice. I don't think there are any of Heldrik or Gray in circulation yet, except the one Asmundson just made.

I am absolutely sure no one has said in open posting that they are making Trumps of Gray. What Raevyn and Josh may have done behind the scenes, of course, I have no clue ;)
Gray certainly believes the Asmundson one is the only one that exists.

Rae tried to make a trump in Amber, but it didn't work; she didn't take the time while still in Jorden to make any after spending time with Gray--too much other stuff was going on, and I didn't want to slow things down more. So unless Josh made one or two at some point, as far as I know, nope.

For Roland group, I'm going to assume Kat agrees and go on with the post, as I am going to head "home" to my trailer soon. That way, you guys can do some discussion.
For Heldrik group, I will set you up as well, for as much discussion as you need.

Roland made a Sketch of Gray, but no full-blooded Trump.

I'm off for the night.
Just before I go - can I confirm that no one told us the man Rae saw during Joss's assassination was Rinaldo? I'm starting to lose track of all the stuff we don't know:x-eyed: and since Gray has just raised to possibility of talking with Rinaldo, I'd like to be clear whether we know this or not.
LynMars
13th of October, 2004, 15:44
I was under the impression that we had disclosed all info that we had learned, but I could be wrong, there; Rae left that up to Roland's discretion, so you'd have to ask Shutter about what he disclosed and didn't to Heldrik and the others. It might have ended up lost among the details, with all the jabbing.

A short list would be brilliant, if that were possible, as I tend to assume things haven't been done, or said, or changed hands, unless specific statements are mad - and half the time, I miss those too.
Eg for such a list - Lintra's book - given by Josh to Gray, who gave it to Heldrik, who gave it to Arrotel.

For the next few nights, I probably won't be on late my time so if I'm not around when the rest of you are, please feel free to continue as if Kat has agreed with whatever is going on. I don't want to slow down our group with my absence from time to time.

It is to bad that our guests do not make comments as often when they come and read some of our fiction section or the main storylines. I have noticed a lot of 'guests' of late in the fiction section which is why I comment.
LynMars

I know at least one guest for a bit was a fellow from the GG IRC Chat, thinking of joining in; he'd found the link to my Karina story, which I have in her description post on those boards, and read along. He's not sure if he'd have the time to devote to such a fast-running game, though.
A lot of "Guests" likely don't want to create an account just to comment on the threads they read. :)

I'm glad that class this week is only 3 days long. Stupid papers. Oh well. One last one, and quick classes tomorrow and I'm finished for the week then it's resume/cover letter submitting time.

I keep trying to figure out where I first heard the term sprog...I'm failing completely...But, I'm not all that convinced it's an American term at any rate.
I'd like to take this opportunity to mention in OOC space that my father had his prostate taken out yesterday, and there are no signs that the cancer had spread. He's recovering well, all important nerve bundles were spared and my family and I can breathe a Deep sigh of relief...So that's pretty great news. Count me as content.

Great news, man. Forgive me if I offend, but we'll be praying for him. My mom died of cancer at 50, so I've been there, glad the technology has improved a lot since 1980. Thanks for the update.
On the game front, expect a third public storyline soon - and it's a doozy, thanks to Trey and Tam.

Woohooo!!!! I've always wanted my own theme music.
Dave, why are you giving me the feeling that something is about to go horribly, horribly wrong? :paranoid:
Well, enough procrastination for the moment. I'm back to working on my paper that's due at 1. I'll be hopping back in forth until around 12:20 or so.

Fortunately, Trey has been quite active, as I was trying to get his story to the place where I wanted it, without hurrying too much. We could have done it slower and even more richly...but I think he likes the results, so far...
For all those in the two presently-public threads (Roland and Heldrik group), Shutter has suggested, and I concur, that we ought to declare all the basics of each others' storylines as having been passed to each others' group while they were all in Jorden. Anything meant to be secret, like parts of peoples' backgrounds, is still PC-secret, but narrative happenings shared by all (physical events, etc.) can be considered known by both, just to save people from too many misunderstandings. I think players will forget things on PCs' behalfs anyway.
The new thread I am going to start tonight, will begin from right about now, because I want the two principals to go in blind. Later on, I will copy some of their earlier stuff into a prequel thread, once it is more or less public knowledge. So, you all have that to look forward to. For the two guys, please post your instructions in your private thread, and I will post common knowledge in the public thread - kind of double-blind, for the nonce. I will try to edit it all into coherence as we go. Forgive me if it is a slower process, you two were getting a lot of individual attention lately, but now you'll have to share!

A day? Yeah. A day. That's the ticket.
Shutter
14th of October, 2004, 09:41
Well, the "day" figure came from rough head math. He left Heldrik et al. about 18 hours ago by Jorden time. Jorden is blasting along about as fast as can be, 18 hours there is about 10 minutes in Amber, so, I figured, maybe he's had a full day...or perhaps I'm just making a foray into obnoxious RulesLawyerhood...or maybe there are cool IC reasons that I, mere player who should be working, am ignorant of....either way I'm excited to see what's afoot.
TreyKincaide
14th of October, 2004, 09:48
I tried to tally it up, but unfortunately, my poor brain can't wrap around the conversion. Suffice to say, that it's been awhile. I'm sure that it'll all make sense when it leaves the realm of secret and is publicly posted as well as the drastic change.
LynMars
14th of October, 2004, 09:52
Well, Jorden was blasting along at warp speed time; try to go back there without Josh, though, and a day in Jorden turns into a lot of Amber time...Gotta love Shadow time warps...
And I'm pretty sure that neither Rebis nor Landon are on the same time scale we are anymore. :)
Shutter
14th of October, 2004, 10:01
Oh, I know. I'm pretty content with the idea that time's been moving much more rapidly for them...Just observing that, from our characters' perspectives, he's had a hell of a day. From our players' perspective, perhaps the rules on time flow are not as written in stone as we might have thought, an important thing to note before we start thinking we're safe for some reason and conferring this belief to our poor unsuspecting characters.
TreyKincaide
14th of October, 2004, 10:17
Or perceptions thereof. Landon's perception of time very well could have been altered for reasons that I can't disclose.
This should be pretty fun. I'm interested in what chalice's/Gray's reaction is going to be.
Wired*Nun
14th of October, 2004, 10:20
Even in conventional understanding, the 100-to-1 rule of thumb could let him have almost 100 days...but special circumstances, higher Powers, and, as he said, perceptions could change things...
Wired*Nun
14th of October, 2004, 10:24
By the way, I'll try to get something from both sides before I post in Rebis and Landon, at least, for a while.
Shutter
14th of October, 2004, 10:26
Well, the fun thing about the conventional 100-1 rule is the same fun thing that led to the notion of special relativity. If shadow X is going at 100:1 faster than Jorden, and Jorden is going 100:1 faster than Amber then system X is going 10,000:1 faster than Amber, which violates the 100:1 rule. 'Course, that's boring linnear logic. Much more entertaining is an image of time in more of a plane, or spherical geometry, or subject to similar rules to what we (real people) have for the speed of light...Woohoo metaphysics.
TreyKincaide
14th of October, 2004, 10:28
Kinda figured it'd only be fair that way. You might want to put a little OOC reminder in the thread so when Rebis sees it he knows to post in his private thread rather than his own if he misses your earlier OOC post.
