*Does a happy dance* I just found out a rpg company named Mongoose put out a d20 game based on The Lone Wolf choose your own adventure like books that I treasured in my youth. That's so awesome. I'm usually not quite a fanboy (except about Amber). This is the first time something I'm looking forward to something made into d20.

Never heard of those. What's the genre?
LynMars
29th of August, 2004, 11:00
Lone Wolf were fantasy choose-your-adventures, but you had an actual character sheet that you retained through and advanced through each book (well, barring that you didn't die. But then you can just go back, like a save point, and try again). Premise, from what I recall, was a character raised by a martial order that's destroyed except for the character, and the adventures you go on after that, including surviving your home's destruction and eventually avenging it, and finding out all sorts of spiffy things about the mysterious past of your character. I think you could be either magic-weilder or fighter type...only went through a couple of books a former roomie had.

The sight is www.mongoosepublishing.com. They have a lot of information about the series and the genre as well as book previews. The main character in the books was a Kai Lord. The have the class previewed and from what I remember it looks dead on.

Actually, this part made me laugh.

That was only meant to imply that there is no way anything within a quarter mile combat-related is without his knowledge when Bleys is armed and ready for combat.

No, that was more what Roland meant when he pondered not attacking Bleys without his knowledge....Sure the man probably would know, but it's not very polite to act on that assumption....Not referring to the laughter:)
Am I being clear yet?...having an off day perhaps.
Nicely done with the fight scenes by the way. I like them.

As well as could be expected, considering that my family makes la famille Barimen look like The Waltons...good wine, though :)
I see Gray has been...entertaining...in my absence...
LynMars
30th of August, 2004, 08:12
"Entertaining" is one word for it... :)
Frustrating a certain Trump Artist is another. Why do I feel that Raevyn would have to talk to Grey for a bit longer than usual in order to get enough of her psyche down to make an effective card? And would she want to after that? ;)
chalice
30th of August, 2004, 08:30
Actually, after that dazzling display, I can't think of any reason at all why Raevyn or anyone else would want to waste any of their precious time on Gray...except if either (A) they were just really nice or (B) had thought about just how useful she could be if properly 'handled'...

Yep, those are cute little creatures....I searched my work computer for a picture of our cat, but I don't have one. She is however, adorable, small, and tailless. The tail was amputated for some reason shortly before we adopted her, so for the first several weeks she was still regaining a sense of balance. She would occasionaly fall over while walking, it was pathetic and cute at the same time...Now all she has is a little one inch nub, which she wags when she's happy. It grosses most people out at first, but they quickly come to realize that it's adorable...
Wired*Nun
30th of August, 2004, 10:39
Don't they call that manx? Or is that a real breed that has no tail? I could probably look it up on the net but I'm too damn lazy.
aawww, puppies!
Not exactly wolfhounds.

I think Manx is a breed. Bobbie had her tail injured when she was about a year old, badly enough that it had to be amputated.

my parents have dachshunds. 3 of them. Crazy little things, and viscious; originally bred to hunt badgers in their dens, my parents' dogs tend to chase just about anything and everything, and are too smart sometimes for their own good. Other times they seem like the dumbest little buggers...

I like talkers, too. I had a friend with a similarly marked male named Imp. He was the biggest talker. As soon as you said anything he would start making that "row-row" thing that cats do - but he wouldn't quit. He wanted to join the conversation. We had to put him in another room to be able to chat. Our pekes do that sometimes too, that talky growl that seems like they are trying to say something.

At night once we've gone to bed Bobbie starts howling trying to figure out where we are...Every night. If we ignore her she wanders through the apartment howling until she finds us, then she'll hop onto the bed and get comfortable. If we call out, or make some noise, she comes running into the bedroom and joins us. You'd think she'd pick up on the pattern, but no. Not the brightest cat in the world.
LynMars
30th of August, 2004, 11:09
our old roomimates have 3 cats, all female. When one goes into heat, she yowls constantly, loudly. She generally gets locked in the bathroom at night during those times, else she sits outside a bedroom door and screams through the night.
The other one just likes to wake up Daddy an hour and half before his alarm goes off by standing next to his ear and "mrow"ing
The 3rd one we finally got mostly past her evil stage, where she visciously rent anyone who came withing paw's reach.

Dave,
I just wanted to say thank you for the gaming experience so far. You work pretty hard to keep all of this going and keeping us interested.
If everybody will give me a little license here....go check all of the rest of the forums on this site....note how many say that there have been posts Today, Yesterday, or some Date.
Hope you got my point that we have a great GM.
Dave KICKS A$$!

It's also worth noting that no other GM has a forum with this many posts. None. We've been here for a month, I could be mistaken, but I think these forums as a whole have been here a good deal longer....Even if you take into account the fact that some of that is duplicate postage due to Dave backing up the OOC forum, we're still easily in the top ten.
Good job everyone.
...and this had to be the forum I'm trying to archive...yeesh.

looking back over some of the threads...yeah, we're up there; we only beat some because of the backed-up OOC thread, but still, there aren't that many active forums that beat us for number of posts, and we've only been here since July. I think they have a place to archive old games that have ended; if we can find them, we can see what they look like, how big they got and about how long they took.

Correct. Blood of Heros, '50s superhero stuff. I did well. I'm playing a walk-thru-walls type 5'0" 92-pound half-Japanese anti-Heroic OSS agent trying desperately to live down the shame of...well, being Nisei in a bigoted America. Vapor (superhero handle) was blackmailed by a mentalist supervillain into trying to steal a bound-demon amulet out of its safe box. The guy blackmailing her was mentally "riding along," and when she went to grab the thing, she found herself in with the demon. The guy mentally with her got to be in there as well...stuck...he tried to trade her to the demon for his freedom. Thinking quickly, she reasoned that just because her body was imprisoned and mind coerced, in this little slice of Hell, they were both equally physical in an illusory sort of way (she was hoping for different rules to apply in this pocket shadow, so to speak) so she karate-chopped the guy in the throat. Here's where diced games can be fun, she rolled super-well and knocked him clean out, and said, "Same deal, different victim, see?" The demon took the deal. Hahahahah. It's good to play an anti-hero. The piece of his mind the demon still has, has him seeing visions of hell and torture, as well as psychosomatically burning his hands to a crisp.
I'm a baaaad girl.
I'm working on Roland's research stuff, offline in a word processor, not sure if I will finish tonight. Better to be good than fast, in this case.

It's not a terrible thing to be curious about such matters, and want to know others opinions on it...But most RP communities I've seen do keep politics and religion to private discussions or in specific forums. Such topics tend to engender a lot of passion and no small amount of venom from opposing viewpoints. Feel free to PM any of us, just be prepared...
In lighter news, a friend introduced me to an Italian band called 'Nightwish'; cross Evanescence and Rammstein, and there you go...Good Stuff, I highly suggest it. I have a weird taste in music...country, pop, rock, classical, goth/industrial, little techno, next to no rap...I guess I can be called eclectic...

Hey, this is (my wife) Beth's login, I am setting up for her. Anyone want to make her an avatar? Something like Dana Delaney, red hair. Thanks. It's so that when (if) I am on here from Iraq, she can follow along. -The Nun

I should know who Dana Delaney is, shouldn't I?
Also, I'm a bit worried that Roland is monopolizing the dinner thread, and that he's not doing a whole hell of a lot...so, let me know if I'm being a pain.

I will try to get her to pull out a picture she likes, maybe one of me too. Though, maybe I should just stay like my avatar, he's much younger...
As far as monopolizing, just say "we chat like this till dinner then..." or whatever.

I just enjoy Flora ;-)
When I ran a game in college I had a very cute young lady from the Drama department playing Flora as an NPC. I was told that she played the part to the fullest extent and the guy that she was assigned to keep an eye on was exceptionally happy with is 'roleplaying experience'. Highly entertaining situations were always going on in that game. I even got the girl that would NEVER marry to get married to Gerard no less.....course it took a spikard as a wedding ring to get it done, but oh that was much fun!

I think it just needs to get people's attention more, but bumping too often can get tedious; people were either doing the same action or unconscious anyway. I tend to shove mine ahead if it's been about a week since anyone updated; I try to send pms reminding them, and if they still don't reply, they get automoved. that tends to get player attention too.

Informal poll; we could conceivably do advancement about now. I would take into account when everyone started and their game time of play. Obviously the "older" players would get a decent amount while the newer players not so much, but then everyone would be on an even footing, and the soon-to-be new character would start out about evenses. Everyone post their opinion please.

Ok, ok here it is - I was just working on it honest...
"Rebis is of slight build and stands a little under six feet high. He appears young, perhaps no more than twenty. His complexion is very pale, his lips seeming almost bloodless. Light brown hair falls over his face, partly obscuring pale gray-violet eyes and fine, almost beautful features as he regards the observer with an expression of innocent curiousity, but gazing into those eyes hints at something deeper.
He tends to dress simply in dark greys, the only real colour provided by the myriad facets of an iridescent cloak clasp catching the light as he moves."
