I had a horrible headache this weekend, but I always get bad headaches whenever the pressure systems change from Low to High :-P...the more of a change, the worse my headache!

Anyways, I feel for all of you sick people. I had the Flu, a Stomach Virus, and (from what I am told) a regular Cold all at the same time about 3 days before finals my second fall in college. The Monday of my first final I found myself cold and wet on the shower room floor with the water still running. I crawled to the porceline goddess and worshipped her from the front and then from the back in quick succession...
My roommate found me on the floor in a wet towel in our room an hour later and called the prof and let him know what happened. I did get to take the final that Friday, but I got a D+ on it :-P

Well, the new boss is working out well so far. Funny how that changes a lot of things, especially for those of us in the military who can't just tell him to f-off, "I quit." I also got some things worked out with a difficult co-worker of mine (for now anyway), the financial picture is looking up, we have settled some thorny issues with the help of, dare I say it, an attorney, relating to Beth's ex's child support and retirement (he wasn't wanting to live up to his agreements...thank God he's too cheap to fight a tough court fight, he hates paying lawyers even more than he hates paying his ex-family...) ...and we're trying to work out where we go next, still unknown...but I feel like I'm out of the doldrums for a while.

AAAAnnyway....

How's it with you guys? School/job/family/etc?

LOL Hey yo. Sorry, I'm posting from work. I work full time now although I'm not sure how long this is going to last until I find something else. Lyn goes to school during the day and works at night so I have to skip lunch if I want to see her before she heads out. This leaves me pretty wiped to say the least. ;)

Other than that, just trying to figure out stuff as I go.

Life goes on, much as it has these past years, full of its own comings and goings. Scarcely aware of the existance of hobbits, for which I am very thankful.

Sorry, I felt the need to quote LOTR. It does fit with my current situation, though. Nothing happening other than college applications, which is a nice change of pace... I had 12 hour days, 7 days a week for about a month there.

Argh. Sorry if I seem to be indecisive or dragging it out. I keep trying to get Rae to be a bit more assertive and make a decision, but she won't be "pushy" >.< The character convo in my head has been going something like this:

Me: Would you make a decision already?! They're waiting!
Rae: But I don't want to be rude and inconsiderate!
Karina: Wuss. If it'd been me, you'd have been there and slapping that bitch around ages ago.
Me: ...Back in the character box, you, this is the wrong forum!

Rae: *waffles s'more*

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Let me first start out by apologizing for my far to lengthy absence form these boards. While I can not excuse this I beg for some understanding based on the below.

1) Work.
It appears that the week before, during, and after Thanksgiving is an excessively busy time.
November also saw 3 company promotions. Normally this does not effect me to badly, but this time all three product lines were high quality. This required me to spend a lot of time talking it up with my stores that I normally would not have needed to do.
2) Significant Other (almost fiancé, almost!)
She was scheduled to go to South Africa starting in December…and is still there. Obviously I wanted, let alone that she really wanted, to spend a LOT of time together she went…in fact almost all of my time.
3) House
Yes friends, neighbors, and anybody else…..ITS ALMOST DONE (A nice Christmas present if all goes well in fact). This has been the chore of the century, worse than any College final I ever took, and requires hundreds of signatures and initials as well as walking the property….Suffice is to say I have been running around town to all kinds of places doing all kinds of things.
4) Friends
There have been, and still are, many things happening and brewing which required my attention, time, and in many circumstances much effort.
5) The Server
I tried different times to get online and post at least something, but found at each turn that the server was not being friend. I did get in once, but I was dumped within a minute or two before I could get anything done :-P….

Between now and the middle of January I am going to be relatively occupied with moving, getting utilities, USPS services, and a myriad of other things working at my new house. The best of which is a static IP Server that my brother will be running, which will make getting through TGV a lot easier. I will do my best to be here and active, server willing, however.

If you play in other games that I am in or run, you may want to skip reading this again as I will be posting it in each OOC thread.

It seems that many are here there and everywhere along with me...makes me feel a little less guilty.

Wired*Nun
9th of December, 2005, 09:17
The wonderful thing about Amber is the flexibility of time and the semiautonomous nature of most PCs. We'd like to see you back, but we can make do without you for a while! Take care of RL first, and see you when you can come back.

Wired*Nun
19th of December, 2005, 07:37
Well, one thing I'm learning about myself - when something impacts me emotionally, my writing (and RPing) suffers. Nothing that happened here (thanks, everyone) but elsewhere...and I haven't been able to do anything. It kills the muse.

I feel like I'm getting over it, though. Let's hope the holidays will rejuvenate me some. Sorry it's been so long.

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to wish you all (and your families, etc.) a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year; Happy Holidays to All!

I might be a few days early but working two jobs means I never know when I'm going to have time to be online lately.

So take care everyone and I hope you all get a few good days of R&R in so you can enjoy yourselves.

Wired*Nun
31st of December, 2005, 06:32
Merry CXhristmas, Happy Holidays for those who don't celebrate Christmas, Happy Hannukka (yes, we celebrated this year with some Sabbath-tradition friends (those are Christians that observe Jewish traditions - kind of hard to explain unless you're intrested in theology), have a super Samhain (sorry, is there a traditional greeting for Wiccans or Neeo-pagans?), and a Happy New Year for all you purely secular folks. Hope that covers everyone!

We were going to go to Germany for some of the holidays but Beth ended up with an infection in her foot, and then she reacted to the meds and got hives for two days, so we're staying home. It's a good thing the kids are all off in various directions, as she's been pretty miserable.

So, I have some time on my hands, let's hope I can catch up some.

I had to take a trip to Omaha (2 days of travel for 2 days of work - that's annoying) and then catching up on what I missed...next week I have night duty or am off all week, that's usually dead slow, so I should be on and maybe even on at the same time as some folks for some bullet-time posting. Is there anything I can do to get your thread going, at least for you? I know it seems to be dragging, but with Trey not interacting much, drastic measures may be in order...but short of a senseless fight, I'm kind of at a loss too. Feel free to make some decisive move with Roland.

Shutter
24th of January, 2006, 13:35
As far as I can tell there's not a lot you can do or need to do to get our thread chugging along again. I'll prod Roland to be a little more proactive and see what he comes up with. Part of the problem, for me at least, is trying to come up with a reasonable reaction to such an utterly bizzarre meeting.

Wired*Nun

Eh... I'm afraid I don't remember who Josh's parents were, and there are several thousand posts to sort through if I want to find it. I was looking back, and reaized that it's been more than a year and a half since we started. The longest lasting game I've ever played in! Yay! Though it's a long time to remember the names of a NPCs parents if it's only been mentioned once.

LynMars
26th of January, 2006, 22:50

Howdy, Ice, how you been? You a senior this year, right?

Icebird
29th of January, 2006, 13:29
Yup, as of December. I was a junior for the first half of the year, a senior new, and I'll be graduating at the end of the year.

Wired*Nun
29th of January, 2006, 13:38
Interesting - crammed two years into one? Wish I could have done that, I hung around doing very little my senior year - took three entire classes - because the school wasn't bureaocratically (sp?) flexible enough to figure out any other way - and a GED had a stink about it, at least back then.

Icebird
29th of January, 2006, 22:44
Yes, the GED still stinks. Rather hard to get into any good colleges with one. My school is neat like that; very flexible and understanding if the student warents it. I am not only taking a full HS load, but I also qualify as a 3/4 time college student. And I'm still on a sports team.

It's a lot of work, but I decided that high school has nothing more to offer me past this year. And I haven't exploded yet (as some other students predicted), so it must be a good decision.

TreyKincaide
30th of January, 2006, 09:37

Uhhuh. Something I've come to appreciate as an 'adult' and I use that word loosely, is that being grown up isn't quite as different from being a kid as once believed. It's still all about looking like you know what you're doing and making up the rest as you go along. ;)

Icebird
30th of January, 2006, 22:55
That's been somewhat my experience so far... Except now as more of an adult than I was before, I get to make stuff up with calculus instead of algebra! Vectors are fun...

Thanos
30th of January, 2006, 23:02
Well as an adult I no longer think that adults noses are huge because I no longer look up and see them hanging off of some bigger persons face anymore ;-)

My imagination and creativety also seem to be expressed in a much more print oriented setting were as a child it was all in my head and sometimes came out verbally.

Wired*Nun

I'd like to lobby for everyone who can afford to and wants to, sling a couple dollars towards the server upgrade. Personally, I think this is worth the cost of a couple RPG supplements or Happy Meals.

Man, I made it thru. I'm beat on like 2 hours sleep.

Yes! Amber exploding! Sounds like fun to me... As long as the five PCs can exit first, of course. Quote from the ADRPG book:

"There is something to be said for the threaten-to-smash-the-universe style of capeign management."

That, or Arrotel will just keep talking. Either way...

I know what you mean about the weekends strinking. I worked myself to the bone Friday + Saterday moving into my new house and getting the basic necessities up and running. Sunday was suppose to be relaxing, but didn't end up that way.....today, well I shant talk about today other than I woke up on the wrong side of the bed with about as much sleep as Dave had....

Seems like this weekend was ucky for everyone. :\ I didn't get much sleep last night at all, and was queasy all day. I wanted to think it was cuz of the speech I had to give today. ;) But after class I ended up calling in to work and sleeping for awhile. Waiting for a call from a possible landlord after a reference check. Need to do some writing. Especially before my friend comes over here and murders me. :paranoid:

I've raised the point cost on sorcery. I think it's undercosted. Those who have it can defer paying until your next advancement. New characters will pay up front.

If you have any huge problems with this, please let me know. If it's not a flame, post it here.:calm:

The only thing I have to say is, there's only so many powers in Amber. There's going to be some overlap (though granted, other powers aren't supposed to be all that common, not on Amber's side, anyway). And Power Words are part of it now...So, with everyone getting partial Trump, raising the cost on that to discourage everyone getting that, so then everyone hopped over to Sorcery...

More flexibility in the system for unique combinations and effects'd be good. Right now, they are all pretty much the same unless the players take the time to describe the effects.

Wired*Nun
9th of February, 2006, 11:48
I think there is a lot of room for combined effects that many people don't even try, that I would allow, especially if it had never been done before.

I do realise that with no Power Words it reduces the available powers; presently there is "room" in the PC ranks for shapeshifting (nobody) and idiosyncratic items - only one PC has one of these except Trump. I still think people underuse the powers they have sometimes, such as probability manipulation and shadow manipulation. Corwin seemed to do these as nearly a first resort any time he encountered trouble. Some of the PCs have been very successful at this.

There is also Maze that no one has explored yet - it's an option for a new character especially. If Maze power gets eliminated in the future, for example by action of the other Powers, we will figure out some compensation which will make for an interesting story anyway.

Thanos
9th of February, 2006, 18:52
I always thought that power words were just 1 linch pin spells in the first place so I didn't mind seeing them gone. Everybody should also remember that Wired*Nun also raised the price of basic Patter as well....so across the board on the Amber side of powers things have been raised.

I was actually thinking of having Heldrik do some high level Probability manipulation in conjunture with a Trump Casting and see what kinds of effects we could come up with. Unfortunately that got side tracked by dinner and then a tiff. Now it looks like Landon or Josh will be the new targets for this idea, which of course wont likely work, but eh....not sure on the details yet which is why I have not broached it yet.

Icebird
9th of February, 2006, 22:34
No problems here. Still cool enough, for 10 extra points, in both my and Arrotel's oppinion.

I do have some interesting ideas for other power combinations... But not for Arrotel. He's unlikely to learn any more powers for a long, long while.

LynMars
10th of February, 2006, 05:19
Some silliness. I think they do this to me just to hurt my brain. A discussion on the breakability of the ADRPG Item & Creature Creation Rules, as they are written in the book. Kinda. Perhaps there are some useful bits on creative use of powers to be gleaned from here, but...Mostly, it's just silly.

For one throne war, some 6 years ago, I built a spikard level power object for 2 points. The GM told me that I could just consider that I won the game and just built another character and have some fun with it all.

For another Game that I was going to play in with my friend ML we built the ultimate spying and recording device. His character was advanced trump with pattern and mine advanced pattern with trump. Combining the twowe built a 'World Tree' type creation that was a shadow unto itself and for all intents and purposes recorded everything in every shadow and at each pole of existance and stored it like an organic computer. Inserting oneself into special spots in the tree would allow a commune with it and one could examine any time period in any shadow. With sufficient skill you could track someone in almost real time...but that was very very hard. Unfortunately the game never materialized as there were only we two players interested....:-(

Heya All,

I've unfortunately had no access and that will continue for a couple more days yet as my ISP reconnects me; I have moved back into my old house. We were supposed to be reconnected Wednesday last week but my ISP forgot to enable the codes on my line.

I am supposed to be reconnected this coming Wednesday but I'm not holding my breath. Last time I moved it took them 3-4 weeks to reconnect me; I was just lucky I had the in-laws internet to leech from.

Apologies for yet another prolonged absence on my part. This should be the last one provided my house doesn't get knocked down by a cyclone any time soon.

The poll for the coolest avatar for 2006 is up; you can see, I entered with the WotC April Fools joke. My Little Pony RPG for the win. Yeah.

In other news, school is still a bear. I even (temporarily, hopefully) backed out of a Star Trek sim Trey and I play in for the meantime til things calms down--was stretching myself a leeetle thin there. Given it's a PBeM and moving slower than molasses right now, not too terrible a loss in the meantime. And I have to think about that character and posts and stuff, moreso than here. Gaming Guardian RP, however, is almost entirely mindless for me by now.

So, work (which is scheduling mandatory overtime right now, even for us part timers) and school and other stuff. I need to somehow get exercise and writing in there, too. And Kingdom Hearts 2. Yes.

So, a few weeks back my wife hijacked my copy of the GBoA, and has been reading it during her daily commute. I was so proud of her when she raised an eyebrow and called bullshit on Ganelon kicking Gerard's ass.

Through a series of tangents this led me to wonder: Which came first for you folks, the books or the game? I can't quite recall, but I think I learned about the books via the game. Though I may have started reading the books(obtainable via library) before I got ahold of the game.

Icebird
14th of April, 2006, 13:38
I read the books first, for sure. My dad recomended them to me, one of his favorite series. I found out about the game when this one advertised for players initially.

TreyKincaide

The books.

LynMars
14th of April, 2006, 14:51
Books. My parents had a copy of Nine Princes in Amber when I was a kid, but I didn't get a hold of the others until I was well into my teens and my uncle was sorting books, letting me take the ones I wanted before he sold the rest. He had a LOT of scifi and fantasy novels.

I found out about the game after I started roleplaying in the Army, and moved to Kansas. Picked up the RPG and Shadow Knight in a game store in Topeka.

Thanos
14th of April, 2006, 17:47
Books. I read the first page of NPoA in the bookstore and purchased the first 5 books right then and there. A couple of weeks later I went back and got Trumps of Doom and Blood of Amber. I went looking and looking for another book in the series only to find out that no more had been written so I spent a year waiting for Signs of Chaos.

I discovered the game late in Highschool about 2 years after I started RPing. It was a new group of people that I hadn't played with before so I got a friend of mine to go with me for the auction. He got 1st in Str and End and 3rd in Warfare while I won 1st in Warfare and 3rd in everything else.
The person who bid 100 points (in a 100 point game) on Psych was actually an 'Uncle' and was put in me and my friends care by Oberon (who we assumed was Dwarking shapeshifted ;-). Thus the 1sts in everything were traveling around together and the other 4 players were also paired up as another group. Unfortunately I got to play for 2 weeks every day after school before the old GM decided to flake and I had to take over the game which lasted another month and a half till school ended.

Fun while it lasted.

I read NPIA in 78 when I was 15, and was hooked at that point. I remember waiting for or looking for (hard to remember) book 3, 4, 5, then the long dry spell.

I had high hopes when the game came out. Had a pretty good 1-year game in 1994, but when some players left some others asked me to to run WoD/VTM, which I ended up doing for 2 groups of 6 plus a one-a-month up-to-30-person LARP. This was all when I had time, and life was pretty much just gaming.

Marrying a woman with 3 kids changes things, however. :?

Hey there,

Sorry to worry anyone with my disappearance; I didn't realise I had been gone that long.

There's nothing evil or totally amiss in my world/life except for work/study. Due to my workloads everything else has unfortunately fallen by the wayside. I meant to message you Dave, so I do apologise for not doing so sooner. I seroiusly just lost touch and track of time as one assignment blurred into the next.

Anyway if it's not too much bother, could you just place me on hiatus until the 19th of June? That's when exams end for me and I begin my holidays and head into second semester; essentially I resume living a normal life once more. If it's cool to keep Kat entrenched at the Keep working for the Hendrakes then that would be awesome; if you need to swing her into action via NPC mode, please feel free to do that as well.

If you can't keep me in the game because it would free up a slot for a new player then I understand and that's cool too. I'll do my best to check in once a week to keep up to date with the game but aside from that if anyone needs to contact me; messages work fine as it's hooked up with my email, etc.

Take care all and see you in June on a more regular and stable basis.

Well there are walls and whatnot in the way, but pointing more or less in the direction of Josh's kitchen was Roland's inclination. Not about to invite someone in to Josh's home though, that'd be poor form.

Well, I did. But you gotta admit I played it off like a pro.

Yes, nice done.

This is turning out to be a long post, with research.

No problem. I'm about to head out the door to be a substitute highschool teacher for a while. Subbing through wednesday. This week I'll pretend to know chemistry. Yay.

Trey, did you mean Luke in that last post, or Martin?

TreyKincaide
15th of May, 2006, 12:50
I meant Luke not that Landon trusts Martin much more than that. Aside from Fiona and Dworkin, Landon isn't sure of any other Trump artists neither of which are likely to be of assistance.

Wired*Nun

Ahh, I get it. Just the way it was structured made me unsure.

TreyKincaide
16th of May, 2006, 07:23
Um, chief, in the Roland and Raevyn thread did you mean "'My Precious' comes to Landon's thoughts."

Figured you meant Roland, but thought I'd check anyway because that'd be damn creepy otherwise. :D

16th of May, 2006, 07:24
I just figured Landon was realy hyperobservant.

TreyKincaide
16th of May, 2006, 07:26
Quite the opposite actually. He's starting to feel that he couldn't manipulate his way out of a paper bag. ;)

Good thing the paper bag is on your side.

Wired*Nun

Lol yeah, sometimes I get the words "Roland" "Landon" mixed in my head, just because they share lots of letters. Only one letter off of anagrams.

We need a Noland! Then your head would explode!

Wired*Nun

Ugh. *pop* :tsk:

:dead:

How about a Landor? Or Ronald?

TreyKincaide

Dorlan, Norlan, etc, etc, etc... All good names for our Shadows or assumed aliases. :D

Anyone in the DC/VA area? Looks right now that I may be going to Alexandria, VA for my next assignment. Not 100% sure, but pretty likely. Needless to say, notification of my assignment now brings a rash of things to do and prepare for. Note sure how this will affect my posting frequency right now. Certainly it gives me other things on my mind. I'll try not to let it ruin things...however, the half-million-dollar-plus home prices are already boring into my widdow bwain. Ick.

Well I guess that its a good thing to be coming back to the states?

Wired*Nun
17th of May, 2006, 12:25
Not necessarily. I've spent 12 years overseas, I feel quite comfortable here, not to mention the great opportunities for travel and stuff. I am looking forward to good gaming opportunities, though.

I am looking forward to moving from Vegas in 2-3 years when I get to sell my house. I am so tired of the 24 hour society, the billboards with almost naked women and men stairing down at you every time you turn a corner, and the 50% of drivers that don't use turn signals!

Heh....well I lived in Saudi for 2 years as a child and toured central Europe and London a total of 4 weeks during vacations during those years. Having moved way to many times in my life, I could do for a little settling...

Wired*Nun
17th of May, 2006, 12:39
I feel the same...which is why I am disappointed, since I am fairly sure I don't want to be on the east coast for the rest of my life. I would rather have gone somewhere that was a stepping stone to wherever we settle after my military career is done.

This is one of my very rare midday appearences.

I will be going on vacation Thursday morning through Sunday night in order to attend my Fiance's Sister's Wedding in TX. Lots of fun and it will be a nice little vacation for the two of us besides getting to see her parents again. Just wanted to let you all know I wont be back till Sunday night.

Not an easy post! I also had to do a wee bit of research on some long ago threads. Meep @.@

Wired*Nun

I agree, not an easy post for me either. I keep staring at it and starting it but I can't construct the scene the way I want, yet.

Well it wasn't much of a vacation, but I have returned only a little worse for the wear. I am going to have to, at some point, find a time when Wired*Nun and I can get on at the same time so I can get some multiple postages going ;-)

BTW, the game is blossoming wonderfully with all of the plots and subplots boiling to the surface ;-)

Never mind.

I'm on an odd schedule all week working at my high school subbing job. So, posting isn't as reliable as it usualy is when I'm sitting in my lab staring at my computer all day.

Hang on, I'm cogitating.

LynMars
25th of May, 2006, 08:50
S'okay! Apparently I did bad things to Shutter's brain last night in another RP, so he needed the time to recover anyway ;)

LynMars
25th of May, 2006, 13:32
Also, did you know that while this game doesn't turn up first by a long shot on Google, searching for the song on Yahoo brings this game up first?

...and someone on Shadownet's forum is using the Jasra sprite card as an avatar. Is that someone from here?

Sorry for the delay, trying to figure out if Roland can think of anything better to do than "stand there and try not to be intimidated."

Wired*Nun
26th of May, 2006, 00:40
Forgive the blatant manipulation, but part of the slow-roll has been trying to get/let the other PCs into the current conflict scene with Nightmare. That means that I really don't want more elders in because, to play them right, I kind of have to let them dominate things and that's not my intent here.

So, don't feel bad if you can't reach the people whom you would logically want to, it's a story thing.

At the same time, I'm not going to force anything, so if Baarak, Heldrik, Landon or Arrotel don't want to be drawn into this, or feel it isn't true to their characters to let things be bent that way, let me know, and I'll cease my scheming. At least, toward that end.

That also means if Baarak would like to get into an interacting spot, I need a little more attention from his player...not a complaint, just want to be sure that the posting can keep up. If he's happy to explore his current storyline, then never mind.

TreyKincaide
26th of May, 2006, 06:29
Um. Since I'm the target of two possible Trumps, I'm not really sure what to do. For the time being, I'll go ahead and assume that Heldrik gets through to keep things moving while I wait for a reply knowing and accepting a retcon should it be necessary. :)

Dang it all to heck. The GM and the player of the character my character is talking to are both online at the same time and I have to go back to work!!!!!

ARGGGGHHHHH!!!!!

I will be around Saterday morning and afternoon PST and likely late tonight...ah man...then again I should not even be home right now....
