View Full Version : Vampire: the Masquerade (Anniversary Edition)

It has always been my intention to run three games on this site. Initially my third and final game was to be my Dresden Files title but, with the loss of my laptop and all the campaign information, I decided to cut my losses and turn my attentions towards another RPG that I have been itching to run for years:

http://blog.vampirethemasquerade.com/themes/VtM20/img/logo.png

The game is Vampire: the Masquerade, and it will be played using White Wolf's newly released 20th Anniversary Edition rules (and will be set in their modified setting). The campaign will be based in Los Angeles where, in true Bloodlines tradition, the Camarilla has just wrested control of the city from the Anarch Movement.

I'll be looking for three players for this game (or four, at a push, but no more). All characters are to be fledglings/neonates (no more than 25 years undead), created using the standard character creation rules laid out in the 20th Anniversary Edition rulebook. There will be no restriction on Clan, though all characters must be either Camarilla, or possess an attitude towards the sect that is either friendly or indifferent. Whether these attitudes/allegiances change over time is a matter for role-play, but for the purposes of the game's start, this is how it needs to be. (Also, if you're looking to play as part of a Clan that would not normally be affiliated with the Camarilla -- or would normally be independent -- then you need to justify why your character is so.)

Characters do not need to be friends, but it helps if they know (or know of) one another before play begins. This explains why they would feel comfortable (as much, at least, as a Kindred can be) with forming a coterie with one another.

As with all of my games, I will be expecting my chosen players to provide lengthy, detailed posts during play. I loathe one-liners, and players who make a habit of providing them will not last long in my games. Furthermore, I would prefer to take on players who enjoy role-playing with one another, and do not merely wait for myself to provide entertainment: if you have a week in which to wait for my next post, then you can quite easily interact with one another, an NPC, or the environment; you do not -- indeed, should not -- post once and then do nothing else at all.

Lastly, all of my games now have something called a Player Response Deadline. This means that when my general Storyteller post goes up, players have one week in which to post something. If a player misses the deadline without a valid reason, then the game continues without him and I make assumptions about the actions/speech/conduct on his character; I will continue to do this for a total of 3 deadlines. If the player misses 4 deadlines without providing reasonable excuse, then he will be dropped from the game without warning.

Anyone interested in applying for the game should first post their desired concept here, and then send me a character sheet -- complete with background, description, etc. -- through the site's Private Message function. I ask that every character sheet also include a layout of Freebie Point expenditure, as it helps ensure that I can quickly respond to applications.

Now that all the nitty-gritty is out of the way, I give you all an invitation to throw any questions/ideas my way. Game on folks.

Note!: Whilst I am well acquainted with the old Vampire: the Masquerade setting, I have only recently purchased this version of the rules. I therefore apologise if I get one or two setting facts or system notes mixed up; I'm still learning, albeit quickly.

I have two concepts I would gladly play, giving preference to the one that synergies best with the group:

Leah Iselyn: Ventrue with a lust for power, and willing to do anything to get it. She epitomizes Machiavelli's axiom that it is better to be feared than loved, and relies on her presence and aura of authority to manipulate people. She is a very social character, but has some limited ability with knives.

Tanya Iskander: Malkavian prophetess who tries to convince herself she is still human, going to great lengths to achieve an uncommon level of empathy with the living. Her unlife is one successive tragedy after the next, as her efforts of regaining her humanity fail when she is beset by the bloodlust common to all the damned. Very creepy character (I'll leave details scarce since they would be better presented in story), with a balance of mental and social skills. Almost completely combat deficient, however.

I can make either character after I get a .pdf of the rulebook.

Either character could work well, I think. It depends, as you said, what other players are interested in playing.

Foxtrot, as the first player to express interest you have rights to stake claim to whichever Clan and base concept that you desire to play. Other applicants can modify their concepts to work alongside your own, particularly if you're sporting a character that has already been looked over and approved.

Therefore, I recommend picking your favourite of the above two and stating her out. Send on the full sheet when done and, if there needs be no modification, we can let other applicants know what they have to work with.

Any questions, on character creation or otherwise, let me know.

Note: I that anyone who makes a character keep in mind that I am still making the decision whether to allow Merits and Flaws or not. Because of this, I recommend making a list of the Merits and Flaws you'd like, whilst also planning where to spend those freebie points should the option be disallowed.

I won't be allowing Bloodlines, Clan variations, or Merits and Flaws. This being the first time I've run V20, I'd rather keep things simple to begin with.

Update!: Please include with all character sheets a list of Goals, both short and long term. Also, be prepared to explain all point allocations (Attributes, Abilities, Backgrounds, Virtues, etc.) and creation choices (Nature, Demeanour, etc.): I do this with all character applications for all of my World of Darkness games, so do not assume that this is a reflection on yourself, or on your character.

Andrew Saroyan - a Tremere, something of a student-y type. Very proud of his Clan, seeing it as being a cut above the other Camarilla clans, plus combined with the fact he has a touch of arrogance over his intelligence...

He sees his mission to help bolster the Tremere (and by extension the Camarilla) as quite glamorous, especially in a city as high-profile as LA.

That's certainly a workable concept. Throw together a sheet, one which includes all of the above, and I'll give it a look over.

Also, welcome to the site Griffalo.

Cool beans. Want me to throw it up here, or PM it to you?

Private Message it please. I prefer it that the other players not know anything about your character, beyond what little you share in this forum.

I would like to sign up as a Camarilla Brujah.

Sounds good to me, but can you elaborate a little more, for the benefit of the other players?

I think, with Trenton's inclusion, that I have my 3 players. Once the board's up, I'll transfer all game discussion over there.

Oh my fault wasn't sure if you wanted it in a PM or not but I'm thinking of having a college student whose life got changed drastically when he was robbed and beaten and a Kindred who "took sympathy" on him embraced him, and his unlife is very confusing to him.

Rough concepts are okay to share with others. The only thing I'd rather keep secret is character sheets themselves.

But what you've said sounds like a good idea. I'll look into it more when I receive the character sheet.

Thanks! I'll try and get this cranked out for you!

I appreciate it. I'm very keen to get this game moving, as it's been years since I last got to play, or act as Storyteller for, Masquerade.

Welcome to the game. :)

Okay guys, the forum's up. Head on over there and post in the Player Forum (OOC) thread.

I'm new to these boards - what am I supposed to be posting?

Copper

Just continue the discussion about your desired concept. Maybe work out how much your characters know of one another, if anything. You can also help one another out with rules questions, if any such queries arise.

I am interested in this. room for one more?

Good timing!

I have three players, but SHOULD be able to squeeze one more in. I recommend heading over to the board's "Player Forum" and posting up a rough character concept for yourself. Afterwards, you should begin sending me a character sheet through the Private Message function, which should include all of the above necessities mentioned in this thread.

We currently have a Malkavian, a Tremere and a Brujah, so try to steer away from them unless your concept is entirely different.
