Who else is has this game? I know its not D&D or D20, but it seams really nice. Really would like to be a PC as not sure I know the game well enough to DM it... plus my plate is a bit full with other games.

I was contemplating buying this game, but I doubt I will DM a campaign like that and I doubt many people have it, then again I may be wrong.

Not enough other material to suit my needs. The Player's book is a nice product though. The first characters we generated weren't done correctly as we goofed on the skill selections based on your wits. We had thought that those skill points could be used on any skill. Boy, were we ever wrong on that account.

I'd like to, but as I said, not enough stuff to suit my needs. I'll double check Decipher and see when the next big book shows up.
One other thing, anyone else notice how brutal those elves are? I mean they're a power munchkin's wet dream.

I think it is 2d6 and add, like 1d20 and add.... And I think if you roll a 6 you roll an additional d6

Well now we need a Game Master!!! I spent 45 mins trying to make a charcter and I think I still got it wrong....

It took us around six characters before we finally got it right. Now I think we can generate the stat block character in around 10-15 minutes. Creating the background always takes a bit longer. And if you hate D&D elves, you're really going to hate ME elves.
Using the point system for stat generation might be the best way to create your character unless you're using loaded dice. Good grief you should have seen our first few characters. Using the point system with the initial fixed numbers allows you to always generate a viable character.

I'm not a LotR fan
but i'm curious
is there somethinbg like ECL in the game
afterall elves were simply better than humans
I can't see them being placed on an equal footing
Or possibly I'm just missing something
anyone feel free to enlighten me :)

Hmm from what I have read there isn't, they start out on equal footing. Which is bad as they're powerful.

There is no ECL, but as the game master you can limit the number and types of elves in your game. Storyline wise you can limit your players from being all elves. It might be mean of you to do this, but it might be the only way to keep things balanced.

Anyways I like humans more then elves, they get some cool abilities.

Hang on you want to be human and a wizard?
The wizards wern't human, they were demi-gods!
BigRedRod

is there any inter-class balance then?
Because Tolkien never seemed to have any weak wizards
So a guy playing a warrior will be outclassed at every turn
Curse you people, now I'm tempted to pick up a copy of the book just so I can answer a few of my own questions :)

Wizards are powerful but not as powerful as dnd wizards, and yes the 5 wizards form lotr are some sort of immortal race form accross the sea, and looking at sarumans stats who in dnd terms has 41 levels :) yes they're powerful, but wizard is an advanced/prstige class.

BRR, there is a difference between magicians and wizards. You start off with the "conjurer of cheap tricks" and then progress to a level where you perform great acts of magic. But there is a built-in mechanic to limit the power of wizards. When you cast spells it taxes your strength and fatigues you. Also the ultra-powerful spells that D&D wizards would use are for the most part spells that "good" sorcerers wouldn't cast. Magic in ME is more subtle and more of an aid than it is in D&D. And if you really want to become powerful, you'll have to wait a very long time.
It looks like it's much easier to be a martial class. And don't expect to be Legolas right off the bat. He's also a prestige class of sorts. Same goes for the ranger class. Makes you think that D&D might have made a mistake in making their ranger a core class.
