WARNING: Discussion will contain information about the more up to date Dresden Files books by Jim Butcher. If you have not read them all the way through...well you should but participating in this thread/ reading further will spoil some of the cooler parts of the story. Fair warning!

So I was watching some movies and movie trailers and a game idea poped into my head that I'm going to spend some time flushing out to see if it will grow into anything, but I am stuck on one part and at an impass with it. Thought I would lay out what I have so far and see if anyone here could help me get passed the road block.

It is very rough so I appoligize, but what I was thinking was set in the Dresdenverse was someone, probably a Wizard or an Emmisary of Power to a being/God of knowledge decided to open a school where young people could not only get thier standard education but recieve additional training in the use of thier abilities. Kind of a combination of Hogwarts and Xaviers School for the gifted.

Characters would start out with the lowest of the build options, but would be allowed to "invest" points into powers/templates. I really don't forsee any template being unavailable, as everything can be toned down to "kiddy" ratings. Characters would be no more then 19 years of age, but anything younger (minimum 12 years old).

For the most part what I am stuck on is when it would be set the story. The Profs and other details are more minor to me. I am stuck right now is when to set the story. The options I have come up with are setting it after Changes/Side Jobs, like a year or 2 at most where someone in the Paranet has decided to take Harry's organization to the next lvl or to go the Alternite reality method and make it how all persons of power are trained.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I myself would set it before changes, since if you didn't you couldn't use the red court =/

The paranet didn't come about until White Night or after iirc, which would be sometime around 2k7-9 according to the forums.

See and I never read anywhere where it said there was only one Red King. The question I would pose to you making that statement is how did the Red King become a vampire? I, as a GM, would allow someone to play a Red Court infected after Changes. Would make for some interesting RPing.

I quess my other option would be to simply ignore that Changes occured and play on from Turn Coat and ignore that Changes occures...dunno... more options I guess.

The way I understood it was, the red king was the FIRST red court vampire, so every other red vamp was part of his 'line' so when the entire race just kinda went poof.

The infected's infection just sort of cleared up and now there is no more reds.

But like I said, it'd be a shame to play a dresden game without them, so some handwaving would be fine by me lol

There's something about how bloodline curses go "up" and kill all the target's ancestors. Like her sire, then his sire, and so on all the way up to the King, and then back down somehow?
I dunno.
Anyway, point is that *all* reds went poof (all halfblood/Giles guys suddenly turned human, some of those dying from age). That's why it was so important, why Harry actually sacrificed her.
If you want it to be in continuity and have Reds, needs to be before Changes somehow.

I think the most sense would be an alternate world, where magic is a bit more common, enough that the White Council isn't able to properly keep track of all the significant wizards and there are a lot more minor talents hanging around.
