View Full Version : X-Crawl

In an attempt to right the wrongs of my past with Pirates, I'm going to run X-Crawl, specifically The Three Rivers Crawl. It's D&D 3.5 with a weird twist. Imagine all of D&D creatures exist on modern Earth, with tvs, radio, Christians and Pelor worshippers at odds, and the whole world is bonded by one sport - Extreme Dungeon Crawling. (Well, I say Pelor, but all the deities are replaced by their Roman counterparts - don't worry about it unless you want to play a cleric).

That's right, you get to play a World Wrestling Federation style celebrity who poses for the camera, shouts obscenities for the audience, and gains fame and wealth by kicking the shit out of creatures that inhabit randomly populated dungeons. The best dungeon crawlers eventually rise out of the arena and begin to become celebrity dungeon designers - much like pro golfers that then move on to designing golf courses.

zachol and Leadpal have expressed interest, as has Tashalar. That leaves three open slots. I'm advertising now, but the game won't start until after May 4th (the last day of teaching I have for the semester).

Long story short -
X-Crawl, pre-scripted adventure
D&D 3.5/SRD - There are a few classes/weapons in X-Crawl books that are open as well.
Level 4 characters
3 slots
May start

I might be interested, my only concern would be for the pacing issues caused by PBP in combination with the already slow pace of dungeon crawls, but I might be interested. I do happen to love me some 3.5.

It will be somewhat slow, admittedly, but it is a standard room by room random dungeon. I've got about 1/3 of the first floor mapped out already and my goal is to get the whole first floor mapped by next week.

YES ME PLEASE.

Bloodthirsty psycho chick in heavy armor.
Really, really likes to hit things with her hammer poke things with her spear because she's the Valkyrie! Ahahah!

Or maybe I will stick with hammer. Whatever.

Edit: Valencia "Valkyrie" Jones! Buahahah!

I'd definitely be interested in playing. I'm thinking a sorceror who's really, really, eager to be famous?

Alright, I'll bite, and play the party cleric too.

Adonis "The Adamant" Delagol

Waiting for LP and Tash to chime in, and one slot still open then.

After that I'll request a forum. And provide rules for character creation and other things about the world.

This sounds rather interesting. I'll play a fighter unless you'd be willing to let me try a psionic.

SRD is fair game therefore Psion, Psychic Warrior, Soulknife, and Wilder are fair game.

For reference, I'm using d20srd.org for my SRD.

Starting stats/equipment?

I'd rather not roll.

Heh, if you allowed complete psionic I'd definitely play a psionic healer instead of a cleric, but since that seems doubtful, I'll still with my cleric.

Yep, I'd like to give this a try but I'm off on a tiny vacation starting tomorrow and won't have time to give this further thought until I'm back on April 21st.

Could you reserve me a spot until the 22nd, Merc? I'd like to think about it then. I'd be willing to check what everyone else has settled on when making a character choice.

Bernard "Burn" Ward. Druid, ex-monk. Recently banned from the WWE for drug abuse, now trying to make it in X-Crawl instead.

A typical promo.

Leadpal, I don't see biceps on top of his biceps.

Fail.

LeadPal

That's because his biceps are in the way.

Starting stats/equipment?

I'd rather not roll.Level 4. Hold off on equipment so far because there are some options (including firearms) in the XCrawl book, depending on class. For starting stats, let me think about it. I'll go request a forum and post some stuff there.

I won't be starting the game any time before the 4th anyway, and probably the week after (final semester grades are a due a week after the last class - but I have a detailed auto-calculating spreadsheet which means as soon as I grade the final exam, I can post final grades - hooray for anal retentiveness gained from 6 years as a Navy officer, oh, and the skills to use Excel like a friggin champ).

[snip]

A typical promo.Perfect. Just FYI, animal companions are not allowed into crawls, although familiars (basic, not the advanced combative ones of later splat books) are allowed. Maybe take a look at the Druidic Avenger variant. Also, druids are heroes to the common folk, but looked at as rabble-rousing tree-huggers by the nobility. The XCrawl world, although set in North America (the North American Empire, actually) is modeled on Rome, with the current ruling being Emperor Ronald I. (Yes, Ronald Reagan.)

Now, a word about arcane magic - no scrying spells are known except to specific members of the Mage's Guild and never allowed during a crawl.

Also, arcane characters have a few limitations, mostly specific skills they're required to have by the Mage's Guild in order to compete.

Awesome, been dying to get into a 3.5 game for a while now just didn't want to run one. So I shall lurk upon your forum and wait to pick off the weak and sickly of your herd XD

There is an opening in this game. If you're interested, post your concept in the Live Studio Audience. (http://online-roleplaying.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12231) I'm more interested in player harmony than I am who posts first.

Do you mean that particular statement or the advertisement of an opening on the 25th? Dude, I have spidey-senses when it comes to 3.5 gaming openings...also for nachos but that is neither here nor there.
