Felicia Day just tweeted about this, so I watched it. It’s one excellent short form fantasy film, and it was all done in open source programs. Simply amazing. You gotta spend the 15 minutes and watch it.

Felicia Day? I like Felicia Day. Does she actually have anything to do with this or is it just something she likes?

Hm... I think I've been desensitized to sad stories. Actually I think it's just that this is too short for me to empathize with the characters. Buffy's Season 5 and 6 finales made me tear up. This just sort of make me feel slightly sorry for the character and confused about what had just happened to her hair. I'd already figured out what was going on at 8:53, so I wonder if that had something do to with it.
Despite it's failure to gain an emotional response, the film was still quite impressive to watch. Those mountains were practically photo realistic, and while the animation did seem slightly odd at times it wasn't bad at all. It reminds me of 9 in some ways. I think it'd be a lot better as a full length film (although I'm not sure an animated film with blood in it could get any major funding outside of Japan). The whole thing in the beginning before the flashback seems completely pointless, and a longer running time might be able to address what the heck all of that was about. Like why the heck does Scales bleed all over the place from a small wing wound but the crazy snow man doesn't bleed at all despite being first stabbed in the neck, and then impaled through the heart.
